Hilton Cariari DoubleTree San Jose - Costa Rica

I always come to this hotel because it is nostalgic for me. I've known Cariari it since I was born. I am Costa Rican, but now live in the states. I come back often for work and play and stay here everytime I come. I love the decor and outdoor facilities and pool to enjoy Costa Rica's perfect ambient temperature! But why I come back, again and again, is because of its amazing staff. I always get greeted and made feel welcomed and at home. Seeing Julio every time is a treat! He treats us like family and he is a superb person! Hard-working and always ready to help with a smile. He always remembers us by name and takes the time to get to know us! I know he and many staff have been there for a while so having consistent staff tells me something about the management. I love to know they treat their staff right! The breakfast is great and love the pool environment as well as the proximity to restaurants and shopping AND airport! Free shuttle is great! I simply love Cariari! My home away from home!

We weren't at the hotel for very long and didn't get to take advantage of the beautiful pool, which I was hoping to do when we booked. Our check in was very quick and easy and Jose helped us with our bags. Even though I told him I could do it myself (I didn't have any cash to tip), he was extremely friendly and said it didn't matter that he didn't get a tip. Related to that, the front desk clerk (male - unfortunately I didn't get his name) allowed us to charge on our credit card to get cash (for a small fee) so I could finally tip Jose. Anyway, everyone was really friendly, and we appreciated it.

We booked a room for 4 people and only got 2 wash cloths and 3 towels. I'm not sure why that happens when it was disclosed that there would be 4 in the room. We asked for more wash cloths, but they never came. We were tired and didn't call back.

The hotel is set in extensive gardens, close to the airport but still quiet. Our executive room was clean and comfortable, not luxurious by North American standards, but had a nice balcony overlooking the pool and access to the lounge, with free breakfast, daily happy hour with mixed drinks and wine, and an unlimited supply of water. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the Cariari Plaza, with lots of great restaurants with outdoor seating.

The hotel is extensive so very long hallways and no elevator. My husband walks with a cane and the stairs and long walk was a bit of a challenge for him. Also, the hotel dining room was not impressive, the food not great for the price - $25 US for a bad pizza.

The rooms are basic and the bathrooms could use some updating but the hotel pool area is lovely and the rooms surround it. The pool was easily accessed from the exterior door of my room. Vegetation provided a screen and noise levels were not an issue. It appears to be a great place to stay with children.Staff is helpful and efficient.

The hotel is located approximately 15- 20 minutes from the airport. The shuttle service is extremely prompt but only runs hourly...on the half hour from the airport and on the hour from the hotel. The location is good if you have some time to spend and enjoy the pool or nearby golf course but not particularly convenient if your flight is delayed with arrival past midnight!

The hotel is relatively close to the airport and so we stayed there on the first and last night of our 20 day vacation. It is perfectly located if you have a late arrival or early departure and is also close to the car rental services for collection/dropoff. The hotel itself is the perfect combination of luxury and comfort, so you can relax without it feeling overly formal. There are plenty of things to entertain children and teens and the restaurant/bar staff are very helpful. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable (by European standards)

Nothing I can think of

the staff were very friendly and very polite. As a single traveller ( and first solo trip) this went a long way to make me feel at ease. There were always staff around if you needed anything. The staff always seemed to be cleaning and it showed as the hotel always looked very clean. The room was very big as well and was spacey enough to have my yoga mat out to keep up my practise. The pool area, although quiet was very clean and felt relaxing. Also nicely lit up in the evenings which made a nice view from the restaurant. The tour bookings person was also very nice and friendly and I booked a city tour through him. Also a shop and some restaurants over the road to the right which was handy.

I like walking and I wasn’t too sure where I could walk, there wasn’t anywhere on site to take a walk but I still managed to walk around the hotel a couple of laps as it is big enough :) no entertainment in the evenings so not much to do after dinner

Facilities are there , easy access .We had meals and use spa services . The staff is excellent , happy and with a smile on their faces every day . Very much engaging in the contact with guests without intruding the privacy of the guests. It is easy to navigate the premise . I would gladly come back and I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel . When we choose the hotel the first thing for us is cleanliness , and you guys impress . Thank you for your service.

Would a little more choice of fresh fish at the dinner time.

Rooms tired and overwhelming smell of damp. Drain flies in the bathroom. Shower screen needs a good clean. Pool not particularly clean. Amazed not even a bottle of water upon arrival or daily, even if the water is "safe" this and the amenities were of port quality and very limited, not what one would expect for a 5 star hotel!

We stayed one night after flying in from London (UK) and heading to La Fortuna in our hire car. The location and airport shuttle were very convenient. The room was large and comfortable. The reception and breakfast staff were very helpful and friendly. In addition, check out was at 12 so we got a hour or so by the nice pool before heading off which was great. There is a pharmacy, supermarket and cafe a 2 min walk away as well.

Just a bit expensive but that's what you get for a comfy airport stay.

Room was surprisingly big, hotel was clean and staff were friendly. Also very close to the airport so perfect place to stay the night before or after a flight. The hotel also has a free shuttle to and from the airport during certain hours.

Walls are a little thin so we could hear the people talking in the room beside us and people walking past our room at night but didn’t bother us too much.
