APA Hotel Sugamo Ekimae

I stayed in this hotel many times, it suits perfectly my goals, good location very close to Ikebukuro (I even often simply walk there, or to Otsuka), many restaurants around. Very good public bath on the top floor (with an open-air baths), personnel is very friendly, speak English. Will stay there again for sure. 5 minutes (or less?) walk from Sugamo station.

It is only minutes from the station. The area seems safe. There are many restaurants and bars nearby, and there is a department store just minutes away, so you can get nearly anything and live on the cheap if needed. The ONSEN on the 14th floor is a great facility.

The main road is out front and ambulances frequently pass by (every couple of hours). The elevators are crowded around checkout time so its best to be on the top floor or checkout early.

In terms of price and location, I'll give it a 5/5. 3 minute walk to the train station and there's so many restaurants, 7/11s, Lawsons and family marts around.

In terms of the sizing of the room, it has much to be desired. Wish the room was bigger along with the bathroom. It was a bit of a squeeze when rooming with my friend and we just had carry on and personal bags. For those travelling with big bags be wary since you won't have space to open it up and all. Hotel advertises laundry machines available which sounds great on paper, but in reality there's only 4 laundry machines in total available in certain floors only; not even at every floor. For such a big hotel with 14 floors, at least do your guests the courtesy of having 2-3 laundry machines available in every floor. Not only one laundry machine in only four floors total. This isn't a ghost town. Plenty of people stay here.

Well located within walking distance to train station on the JR line which loops to all the popular spots like Shinjuku and Shibuya, and Nippori for getting the Skyliner to Narita Airport. Has it's own Onsen and kimono and slippers supplied to get to and from.

Was the smallest of all the hotels we stayed in but we did expect it would be small and the price was good so not really a complaint, we couldn't open our suitcases anywhere but on the bed. We enquired about aircon but was told it wasn't available at this time of year it could only be switched to heating and we overheated the first night, then we worked out how to open the window and used this instead, although it was winter we did encounter a 24 degree day, we could also open the door which was open to an atrium outside so we managed to get some cool airflow.

Best APA Hotel I stayed so far. Daily cleaining much appreciated. The Onsen temperature was perfect cos some of the APA Onsen don't feel hot at all. Check in and Check out was a breeze. Great location with just 1 min walk from station. My single room seemed kind of more spacious compared to other APA hotels I have stayed. I had place for luggage as other APA hotels I had hard time finding a proper place for luggage.

The slippers in the room were too small to fit and had hard time wearing one to the onsen. It would be most helpful if there were vending machines on each floor for convenience. Had to go all the way to 14th floor just to get a bottle of water.

Clean and adequate room size with decent renovations. Love the big TV in each room with a little bit of desk space for work.

Uncontrollable centralised airconditioning. When you turn on the aircon it's forced to be heat during winter. No humidifier in the room so it gotta be so dry during the sleep. Check-out time at 10 am without a staircase made the elevator stacked with people rounds and rounds. If you are staying at a lower floor it's basically impossible to get on a downwards lift and the only option you have is to ride up 10 floors first to get down.

The onsen on the roof top is very nice. Convenient location and value of money!

The room is very small and the shower in the bathroom runs very slow.

The location is convenient and is very close to two main train line to access the main attractions. Not in busy touristy areas but it has lots of shops and restaurants around it. staffs are friendly and helpful staff and overall it’s a good and affordable stay in Tokyo.

They charged 1000 yen per hour for early check in which wasn’t very welcoming. The air flow and the ventilation in the bathroom was very poor and didn’t help with the drain smell.

A very basic hotel, small rooms as in most of Tokyo. Decent restaurant next door, helpful staff. Room cleaned every day if wanted. In a local rather than touristy area which I enjoyed. Good location as it’s on the Yamanote Line (circle line) which takes you direct to Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ueno, Akihabara and only a couple of stops to Nippori where you can catch the express train to Narita Airport. 24 hour supermarkets a few minutes walk and lots of eating places

Everything was fine as a solo traveller with minimal luggage. You’d probably need to book a bigger room with suitcases.

The location is great, near JR and subway train stations. A lot of shops and resturants downstairs. Enjoy the public spa but have to avoid peak hour.

Room and bathroom is small. There are only 4 laundry machines for the whole hotel, which means that we often have to wait for a while before we can use them. This can be quite inconvenient, especially during peak hours or when many guests are in need of laundry services. The laundry machines installed on 4 different floors which guests need to go to different floors to check the availablity.
