Holiday Inn Johor Bahru City Centre, an IHG Hotel

This is our first time staying here, after travelling 7hrs from the north it’s a task taking the roller coaster like driving up to L7 Lobby parking area! But IHG hotels have never failed to give you the warm personal touch! The room is tastefully furnished except for the air conditioning. We called in maintenance and went out for dinner, leaving the air con on but when we came back near 10, it’s still somewhat warm. Buffet Breakfast was most satisfactory with top notch service!

Not really a problem but the driving up n down the 7levels in the car park can be very taxing. Esp when you need to turn into the up/ down the next level. We saw plenty damages on the entrance made by the vehicles. Hope this is improved when we next visit.

This is our 2nd stay at the hotel. This time round booked 3 rooms. Hotel was running on full house. We got 2 of our rooms at around 5pm and the third room only at around 6.30pm. Good thing is that there was shopping to keep us busy while waiting for the rooms to be ready. Staff also gladly took care of our bulky bags while we went shopping. We love the friendly staff at HI JBCC. A shout out to Mr Specially who would ensure that we have a nice time while staying there. He was very attentive to our needs. Thank you! Rooms were exceptionally clean as compared to the other hotels around this area. No traffic noise so sleep was good.

All 3 rooms had no floor mat provided in the bathroom and the floor could be a little slippery. Needed to be extremely slow and careful in the bathroom. We could not figure out the aircon control in the rooms. Control panel started blinking after some time and the room would turn warm. This happened to all 3 rooms.

Location. Breakfast was good. Friendly and helpful staffs. Room was good. Comfortable bed and pillows.

I booked the room for 2 adults and 1 child with breakfast. I assumed the breakfast would be for 3 of us. But it's only for 2. I had to buy one more breakfast during the check in. I might have missed it during the booking, but it stated room with breakfast so I assumed it was for 3 pax. Furthermore I had booked before with 3 pax and I was entitled for 3 breakfast. It is much better if the numbers of breakfast is also reflected during the booking. One more thing is that the bidet's water pressure is low. For the shower the water pressure is good.

Perfect location as it was just above malls. Everything you need within the vicinity, perhaps except kopitiam and the more malaysian-experience eateries. Room was great - the management did a great job with the refurbishment of the rooms. Breakfast was good and a good selection of food. Pool and gym were also good, not too crowded when we there Love that they were able to provide a memory foam pillow upon request too.

The lift system was a little strange - lift arrival had no sound notification so we often missed or got confused as to which lift arrived. And though there was a dual lift system (switching lifts from ground floor and parking to access guest rooms) it didnt do anything for security as anyone could still go up the the guest floors if they wanted. Parking was plenty but also a slight disappointment as there was no convenient covered parking. Reaching it was also a hassle as one would have to drive up 4 levels of narrow ramps and atrocious traffic direction design (lack of mirrors for converging traffic and very vague directions for which way was up and the exit). Welcome to Malaysia I guess. But at least we got to validate our parking and got it for free.

I like how i can arrive earlier to deposit my bulky bags and registration before the check-in time so speed up later 3pm check in time, as by 3pm it was crowded with people coming for check in. The room is great, clean, comfy, TV can be connected to screenshare from mobile phone which is nice. No noise from outside during my stay although i did hear my neighbour room have a crying baby when i walked past, but didn't hear any noise when i was back in the room. The swimming pool is cold in the morning, nice view although the time i went was cloudy, not able to see the sun. They provided towel after swimming just before the pool. Nice location to stay as it is very convenient to grab around various location. Would come back again if i'm staying in JB.

The hair dryer provided is good but no outlet at the toilet, resorted to using hairdryer beside the kettle plug to be able to view the mirror, would be better if there is mirror provided beside the work desk as there is a power outlet there. Pillow provided soft and firm type, tried sleeping on the firm type alone but not enough to provided support for me and my partner, had to pile double pillow for better support.

The room as well as the toilet was clean upon arrival. The bed was comfortable and my partner and I had 2 good night's sleep while we were there. No complaints on the room itself. Room service's food was good and the staff were extremely polite and friendly. The outdoor pool was also nice, not many people use it so we had the pool to ourselves most of the time.

The hotel was a little challenging to get to as it was our first time in JB. It was also attached to a mall so finding the right elevator to the hotel took us some time getting used to but it's not so much of a downer. Getting room service would also take us some time as nobody would pick up the number for it. At times we had to go through the chat room and the lobby in order to order some room service.

The staffs! They were extremely accommodative. Tbh we encountered a major setback where our room air-conditioner failed to work from around 7pm til next day on our last night. The maintenance worker came down, repaired and it was good for an hour but it failed again afterwards. The worker was honest and told us, to really repair it would take a minimum of 4 hours which would affect us since it was close to 9pm. The staffs at the counter tried very best to accommodate to us as they were on full house and couldn't provide us with the exact replacement room. They then agreed to offer us free breakfasts the next day and even provided us an extremely functional fan for us to use throughout the night. Though the experience is something we wish that we will not go thru again, we have to applaud everyone's patience and kindness to this event. We had a good night sleep nevertheless. It felt more like at home with the blowing fan 😂

If there is one thing I'll remember about this hotel is how I utterly loved the breakfast buffet. There was so much choice and everything was so tasty. The hotel is just near the (international) bus station and inside the mall center building. The room was big and very well-equipped.

We arrived right in time for the check-in, but in the end we had to wait around 2 hours to finally be able to check in and go to our room, without no explanation and not even an apology. After a long bus trip, it certainly wasn't a great first impression (although all the staff we encountered later were sweethearts). You couldn't connect to the TV with an iPhone, which meant the movie nights we planned fell through.

The room is spacious and I like the wardrobe is an open concept - hang up or take out your clothes any time. There were also a soft pillow and a firm pillow provided for each person though the firm one feels soft to me. The shower area is spacious and the shower soap, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and body lotion were provided and in big bottles. From the lift lobby at room level, we can see the traffic at the customs.

We need to change the lift when going to rooms. It was kind of inconvenient as there were alot of people waiting for the lifts. There were only 2 lifts to cater for carpark and ground floor.

Fancy hotel design, good room, with nice city view. The toilet is quite big. The hotel also comes with all the necessary facilities for guest to enjoy. It comes with all the expectation you have for a standard 4 star hotel. I might even argue the room and design is on par with some 5 stars. 2 malls below, good for shopping, and having fun within the JB city. Perfect short getaway place.

Not much to complain really, but the carpark exit, especially from level 4 or level 3 down, the ramp entrance is very very small for bigger cars to mauver.
