Comfort Hotel Flames Whangarei

Everything about this accommodation is just perfect, immaculately clean, and beautifully decorated, from the entrance, the lovely little bar, the beautiful large dining area, the outside open lounging area to the very large, very comfortable rooms. We were in an upstairs room, with a very comfortable king size bed, desk area, small table and chairs, gleaming bathroom with lovely bath and shower over plus very comfortable outside private deck with table and chairs looking out to the magnificent view. We dined in the lovely dining room, chose fish and lamb for our mains, both cooked to perfection. We can't speak highly enough of this accommodation and wouldn't stay anywhere else in Whangarei.

Very friendly and helpful staff, despite being short handed due to Covid 19. We had one dinner, which was very good and three breakfasts, which were also very nice. Prices were reasonable. Large, spacious room (Superior Room) with an extra- large double bed, a nice view to the water and a deck, comfy 2 seater couch plus single comfy chair. Newly updated bathroom. All very clean. Plenty of power points. Large wall mounted TV with Sky TV which included movies and sport. The hotel is about about 5 minutes from the airport and about 10 minutes to the city centre, which was fine for us as we had our own car.

Couldn't fault for what we wanted and in consideration of the reasonable rate.

Room: Good size room, two good size beds, 3 chairs and table, shower and bath tub, fridge, loved that our room had a balcony with pool and garden views as well as harbour views, it was very nice to open the doors and feel the sea breeze. Facilities: Spa 10/10 was expecting it to be just warm as most hotel/motel spas aren't keep very hot. But it was hot and very nice for this 28 week pregnant woman. My partner had lived in Onerahi, Whangarei almost 30 years before moving away and this was the first time we choose to not stay with family and can tell you we will definitely be staying here anytime we come up to visit family. It was a very nice stay.

1.The shower temperature in the morning we found is temperamental, it suddenly goes from normal temperature to full scorching hot our of the blue. Which is ok for me I can just turn it down, but it wouldn't be nice it I was washing my face or my toddler who stayed with us was showering alone it would of burnt him and it takes over a minute to go back to normal temperature. A sign in the bathroom stating this happens would be good so at least you know it happens 2. No microwave in the room, I understand there is a restaurant on site which is probably why but would of been nice to have that opinion if I didn't want anything from the restaurant.

Had dinner in the restaurant. I selected eye fillet - medium rare. My wife had the pasta. Both dishes very disappointing. Steak was tough and the pasta was sweet. We are not difficult to please and spend a lot of time in hotels. This wont stop us staying at Flames but we will dine out next time.

The facilities in the ground floor room were excellent and met all our requirements. The staff were most helpful in providing mobility access for my wife who uses a mobility walker.

Although I was appraised of the access situation prior to our arrival, I was surprised that there was no level parking. The car park was on a fairly decent sideways slope with no mobility parking space. There was also a fair distance and heavy doors to negotiate for a mobility impaired guest between park and room.

View was awesum and I was very happy and impressed how clean our room was. It had everything we needed for our trip. Staff were very friendly and helpful when I needed ttem

Only thing we didn't expect was the layout of rooms long corridor etc. Was expecting to walk into room ftom outside but we didn't realize we could use room service so it really isn't a bad thing. Only thing I can really think of that wldve come in handy wld be a small microwave. Can't really say anything bad as we were quite happy

We always stay at this accommodation when visiting or passing through Whangarei. The Hotel is just beautiful with a large restaurant area, wonderful views, quiet, very spacious rooms and bathroom with a bath, free on site parking and free very good internet. We dined at the restaurant, both had the snapper fish main which was delicious, very fresh and a generous portion. Would highly recommend.

Great stay, perfect for our girls weekend - internet was awesome, facilities were great, comfortable and clean

Our breakfast was a little bit of wait, as well as little mixed up due to some staffing issues at the time, however the staff were very apologetic and we understood this happens sometimes. The food was still very tasty

clean, fantastic parking because I had a very large van. it’s park like surroundings was beautiful and the views from my balcony were gorgeous.

I also bought my bike because there’s some amazing bike trails literally minutes from the hotel however there were no bike facilities for me to store or chain my bike. however management kindly allowed me to use their gym to secure my bike which was appreciated. I think the hotel should have bikes on site for guest’s to use. it’s a fabulous way to get around and see the site’s especially as the beach and coast is 3 minutes away and the city a leisurely 10 minute cycle.

Light-filled well maintained rooms with lovely views. Good location despite being outside of Whangārei. Great sunset views.

Rooms near the pool get noisy when people are swimming.
