The Riverhouse

The Riverhouse is the best place to stay in Busuanga island. The location is very calm and beautiful, the hosts are very nice and welcoming, food in the restaurant is very fresh and tasty. It was a pleasure to stay in Riverhouse. We will recommend this place to everyone!

The riverhouse is a little bit of paradise, set high above the river overlooking the mangroves and forest. The setting is magnificent. However what really makes this place so special is Judith, the owner, Bing ( hope I've spelt this correctly) and all the wonderful staff. They are so attentive, friendly and go out of their way to ensure that you have the best time here possible. We stayed here twice and on the first occasion my husband was sick. Judith and Bing both were so helpful in providing us with food to help, medication and advice. They showed a lot of concern . On our second visit we were to participate in many of the activities that Judith helped organise including seeing fireflies on the river, kayaking, snorkeling with dugongs and getting a massage in my room. The food is wonderful, with a great choice and a packed lunch and breakfast was provided when we left very early on a trip. This was an absolutely wonderful place to stay and I can highly recommend it.

Peaceful and quiet, you can hear the monkeys at night. If you want access to private islands to get those iconic beach pics this is the place to go. Rent a boat for 4hrs and get memories for a lifetime. Large room, superior size bathroom, cold a.c. , makes you forget you are miles from anywhere. The hosts went out of their way to accommodate us and make a trip to the beach come true.

The bugs just happened to hatch after a rain, not the fault of the property, you are in their habitat.

A paradise in the jungle. Birds sing every day, and sometimes they even visit your balcony. In the evening, you can hear the charming sounds of house geckos. It's the perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature. Incredibly beautiful mangrove forests. Kayaking down the river allows you to admire birds and the stunning scenery. Spacious rooms. Everything is beautifully designed with great attention to detail. Fresh flowers on the table added a nice touch. The restaurant is fantastic! Highly recommend trying the wild crab from the mangrove forests – a rare delicacy that's hard to find elsewhere. The staff feels like family! And of course, don't miss the chance to swim with the dugongs!!!!

Wi-Fi only works in the restaurant, and even there, it's not great. However, mobile internet worked perfectly (there's a tower nearby). Consider getting a SIM card.

This hotel is a gem thanks to the owner Judith and its staff, its amazing location overseeing a wonderful river and mangrove forrest and spacious, very comfortable, very clean and very quiet rooms. This was the best stay I’ve had in the Philippines and I highly recommend it for anyone interested in diving and relaxing. I want to thank Judith and her staff for providing an absolutely amazing experience, I felt like home, the food they provided was fresh and delicious. I’ll stay with “The Riverhouse” again when I’m back in Coron!

We spent two nights at the Riverhouse on our honeymoon and we had an amazing time there! Judith and her team are very welcoming and kind and made our stay unforgettable. We loved the food, the beautiful view over the river and the jungle as well as the quiet and peace there. We highly recommend the private boat tour! We went to beautiful, remote beaches (white sand, crystal clear blue water!) and there was no one else!

It’s not a negative point, you should just be aware and include in your planning that it’s not too easy & cheap to reach, which means you have to pay for transportation from the airport (15 minutes) or Coron Town (50 minutes).

The location was very idyllic and quiet, far off the main touristy places. Exactly what we wished for. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and the food was extremely good at a great price. We did a kayak tour from the house to the ocean, which took about 45mins one way, and did the Dugong diving tour on our second day, which was very well organized by the Dugong Diving Center, in exchange with Judith from the Riverhouse, since they know each other well. Great start into our holiday!

Generally we liked everything. The shower was cold and of course, as everywhere in Palawan, electricity can be scetchy, but that is just a question of expectation management and was no problem for us. The electricity and thus AC always worked at night, which was the only important thing for us.

We liked the rural setting and views along the river from the restaurant (and, I understand, from most rooms, though ours had a limited view). The room was spacious with quiet air conditioning and a fan. It had a wide balcony with table and chairs. Well equipped with wardrobes etc and spacious bathroom. A good, extensive menu. We had a warm welcome and complimentary iced tea upon arrival in the restaurant. We really enjoyed hiring a kayak and rowing along the river and mangrove swamps.

For us, the restaurant was a little stark but it was fairly quiet the night we stayed so we always had the excellent corner table with a view. Mr H, proprietor, recommended certain dishes which we did have, but I would have preferred to choose myself in hindsight, particularly as I didn't like the German sausage he thought was so great! My own fault for not listening to myself! Possibly there wouldn't have been much variety of things to do there if we'd stayed longer.

We stayed here for the night because we had to take a flight the next day. The Riverhouse is close to the airport and it takes approximately 10-15 minutes by van. The accomodation arranges the van for you. They also serve dinner and breakfast, which were both nice.

You have to bring cash money to pay for your stay. Or download a specific application so you can transfer the money to the Riverhouse. However, the host was very helpful and gave us a nice alternative as we didn't had enough money nor the application.

We were picked up by the hotel owner on time for a small fee from the airport, a 15 minute drive to the hotel. On arrival we were very impressed with the prime location of the hotel affording wonderful views over the river and mangroves below the large terrace. Welcome drinks were appreciated and a tasty dinner in their restaurant was a good way to end the evening. We had a good sleep in a comfortable room with excellent facilities despite the slightly remote location, A/C , hot water etc. Good breakfast next morning and Judith was a lovely informative and kind host. Highly recommend :)
