Hotel Zarauz

This plus 100 yr old period Hotel fr another time has collected different updates over the decades that adds to the unusual but eclectic charm given its long vintage. From the collection of odd books , historic reading materials, different styled chairs to several quaint children’s plays areas that small kids would enjoy, this old hotel feels like a generational family run property. The rooms reflect their 1903 design when touring travellers had less space & size expectations & yet the bathroom was totally updated w new tiling including a spotless bidet & full bath. The modest old hallways are all finished in beautiful original mahogany doors, trims & casings, something you would only find in an older period hotel. I read some comments about to hotel being old & tired, but we found the layout, decor & period peculiarities kind of endearing especially for its non- mega hotel chain , more modest family run vintage. With all the above, inc a very reasonable 16€ set dinner menu with wine & dessert, we found our Mar 2023 stay at Hotel Zarauz, excellent value for money. A strong recommend for those with an eye for interesting.

The paid breakfast was a little weak on quality baked goods, proteins & perhaps, oatmeal or granola.

This hotel is on a quiet street 2 minutes from the seafront. The public spaces - lobby, resting and dining areas - are very well done, and resemble a parlour, drawing and dining room of a well-appointed home. I absolutely I loved the feel of it, and it made up for the small and rather basic room.

The lady who checked us in was better suited to a job as a supercilious bureaucrat or self-important schoolteacher than someone in the hospitality industry, supposed to be welcoming visitors from another country!!

Nice located, spacious room, flair of the hotel.

There is noise from the street (also at night). The reception is not willing to create an invoice with the provided FOREIGN business address (as provided in the Booking-app). Caused a lot of trouble for foreign business guests to get their travel-costs back from their company.

Check in was easy and the front desk staff was pleasant. The room was small but was fine for my needs. It was clean, had a closet and a refrigerator and personal bathroom.

I didn’t spend much time there, so can’t really comment on this. I liked what I saw.

Simple, clean, bright and spacious rooms. Very helpful reception staff. Our dog was allowed to stay too at no extra charge - and the beach was literally a 2 minute walk away. Great recommendation for a restaurant in the old town where we ate the menu digestion and it was lovely.

The beds could have been a little bit more comfortable, but they were not uncomfortable!

The location was great- spacious room and lots of light in the corner room- the staff was friendly and helpful- and found a fan for us for our room!

The room was initially warm due to no air conditioning, but they kindly offered us a fan. The beds were firm!

The hotel was as advertised. A grande dame that has seen better days, but the staff was helpful and friendly and the room was clean with everything one needs. Our room faced the Main Street, so was noisy in the morning. Oh well. Close to the beach and the old town and the train station. Great value for money.

Great location, easy to find and within a a walking distance to the beach, our room was very clean, comfortable bed, overall a good experience.

My only "note" be about noise: we could hear the people above us walking and dropping things on the floor

Big and bright room with nice view over the city (if you're on the upper floors). Super friendly staff and good facilities. Close to shops, restaurants and the beach.

Old building, therefore be prepared to hear your neighbors watch tv, talk and so on. Wi-Fi connection was bad and slow most of the time.

Nice location, great staff, big nice room, enables bag transfer with Correos company for the camino del norte.

The pillows are awful (very thin), but I think it was like this in all of our stays in Spain :(
