Hôtel de l'Ecluse

The double room was very spacious. It had a nice sofa, as well as a lounge chair. The bed was very comfortable. The room was spotlessly clean. The room was at street level, but with the triple-pane windows closed there was zero street noise. Closing the windows was possible because it was one of the few air-conditioned rooms. The hotel is maybe a 15 minute walk from the train station, and less than a 10 minute walk from the Theatre du Passage which serves as the central point of the annual NIFFF (Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival). There are closer hotels, but this one is close enough to be convenient.

There was some confusion when I was inadvertently initially assigned a non-air-conditioned room, but that was quickly rectified. It is quite clear in the Booking.com website when selecting a room during the reservation process whether the room has air-conditioning or not, but since there is a mix of similar rooms with and without, you need to verify that you actually get what you reserved when you check-in.

immaculate modern hotel, with well equipped rooms and a great location; the Neuchâtel tourist ticket (provided for free by the hotel) was an excellent unexpected bonus; breakfast was good.

bathroom well equipped but a bit small, especially given that the door opens into the bathroom; the bed was very good but the mattress cover (under the bottom sheet) didn’t breathe and so it became too warm - I suggest replacing it with a fabric that breathes.

Convenient location for our purposes. Kitchenette was great. Grocery store right next door. Our room had air conditioning which we appreciated. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We were able to leave our bags at hotel day of departure until we went to airport. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Small issue. The coffee machine in the room uses capsules not available in local grocery stores. We were able to borrow a drip machine from the front desk, though, and that was perfect!!

We were arriving about 9.pm and I emailed booking .com but they hadn’t passed on the message. However the hotel rang me to confirm we were arriving and then waited for us to arrive. He was very accommodating and explained the key system before we left. The room was like a boutique hotel and the bathroom was really modern and really clean. The furniture was modern and there was a kitchen area with a fridge. Also the room had air conditioning which was a must as weather hot

Really out of the control of the hotel but I was woken at night by loud drunken people…I think if you stay anywhere in the lower town area it can’t be avoided but just a shame.

Lovely clean hotel, great position near centre of town. Very safe and secure. A good place to sleep if you're out and about during the day. Air conditioning would be a great extra but we survived!

No air conditioning and it was difficult to open the wardrobe. It would have been better us if we had to separate beds as although we are good friends we are not that close! 😁

Spoiled American here: No elevator to get to reception. My travel companion has physical limitations so this was a bit challenging. There is no air conditioning. I'm not complaining since this should be expected considering the climate and historic nature of the city. This is just something to be aware of.

Hôtel very well located 1 min from the walking area of Neuchatel. Very practical to have small kitchen in the room for basic cooking. The hotel provided us with a pass for 2 to have access to all public transport in Neuchatel during our stay. Staff was really great providing lots of info and available all the time.

The view was on the backside not on the city and was quite different from the view on the city or collégiale that I was expecting.

Why are the rooms so hot? Surely turning the overall heating down would be a sensible idea. I know you can put the air conditioning on but that is not an environmentally friendly solution in late November. Even the breakfast room was over heated!

Friendly and helpful reception and cleaning staff. Good breakfast. Some real cheese rather than soft cheese would help. Very comfortable bed and room.

It was warm outside so I had to open the windows, there was some noise from other guests in the courtyard outside.
