Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort

I locked myself out twice, attended to quickly on what is quite a large property. Reception prined out material for me readily and in colour. The jammed float in the toilet was fixed within minutes. And an alert housekeeper reconized the problem wih the second lockout was a flat battery in the door; called the appropriate person; fixed before I could leave for reception.

There was bacon at the breakfast buffet but you had to ask. Everything else there was excellent. I would like to see salt and peppergrinders in the condiment trays on the Restaurant tables, but thats a personal foible. The beer could be colder its cool, it could be colder.

We visited in the off-season in July, which meant that it rained a lot every day, and many businesses (still recovering from covid) were closed. It's been a really tough time for people. Centrara Tropicana is a wonderful place. They upgraded us from one of the hotel rooms into a beautiful free-standing bungalow. It was an absolutely lovely bungalow with all the amenities one would hope for, kept so clean and set up really thoughtfully with fresh fruit, water, flowers. Everyone was kind and helpful. The gardens were magical, tended so lovingly. Just being on the property was an experience in and of itself. The breakfast buffet was expansive with something for everyone. Great coffee! And the restaurant served good food in general (our favorites were the red and green currys and the MANGO STICKY RICE). The beach was beautiful, although it was too stormy to swim most of the time. Be prepared for plastic trash on the beach... But devastatingly that's the way it is everywhere in the world. Bring bags with you on walks to gather it up - there's a recycling project at the hotel. We were also really grateful for the help of the front desk staff in helping us get from Koh Chang to the Poi Pet border crossing with a private car (which wildly ended up being the cheapest and fastest option) for a really reasonable price. Anyway, we loved it here. Thanks for everything!

This is a laughable complaint, but more hooks in the bungalow to hang up wet towels and clothes would have been great!

Nice garden, pools and beach area. A lot of green. Spacious rooms. Very friendly staff. Excellent place for families with kids. Good coffee selection available at breakfast. Restaurant served good thai food in the evening.

Where everything else was good, the breakfast selection was disappointing for this category of hotel. Catering mainly western visitors, the selection of bread, cold cuts and cheese is not appropriate. Bread was asian style soft bread. Strongly recommend to find a suplyer of French or German style bread. Overall the quality of the items should be improved. It's not about quantity. The variation from day to day is a bit limited. If you stay several weeks, it must be boring. Ceiling fan on the terrace of deluxe rooms would be a great improvement!

It has the cutest beach , the place you have breakfast is next to the beach, very pretty. It is nice to swim and float in the water there, the water is shallow for a long way out. The sun beds are comfortable, beach towels are provided . Our Cabana was very cute, with the most comfortable bed I had during our stay in Thailand. The property is covered with mature palm trees and nicely maintained gardens, and cute Boardwalks, it feels like your in Thailand, very natural feel , very relaxing. There smoothies are very nice. (especially the pineapple one) We enjoyed the Traditional Thai dancing on Friday night (& buffet ) Sunsets are beautiful there.

cocktails are a bit expensive, but are better priced during the 2 hour happy hour. (4-6pm)

The hotel is a sprawling site surrounded by gardens and water ponds, with two separate pool areas, one overlooking the beach, and the other at the centre of the complex. There is a reasonably equipped gym provided only a few people are working out at the same time. There is a nice beach area at the front of the hotel; however, as it is a small beach it does fill up with people quickly. The breakfast area is overlooking the beach and provides a good variety of options. My garden room was a good size and had a small patio area should you wish to smoke or relax with a glass of BYO wine., I did experience a lot of ants in the room, which is expected in a tropical area surrounded by gardens, but the cleaning staff did a good job of treating this with insect spray. It was a short walk to the main road where there were a number of restaurants and massage shops. Koh Chang does not have many 5 star options (if any), and the island is a little expensive for accommodation in comparison to other Thai tourist spots, so taking this in mind Centara was reasonably priced and a good option for a relaxing stay on a laid back island.

You have to walk a bit to get from one end of the hotel complex to the other, albeit through nicely manicured gardens. As with all areas of Koh Chung, it is best to hire a bike to get out explore the island as there are limited options in the immediate area.

The property is in a great location and set in a wonderful naturistic setting. Upon our arrival we were shown to our room that was extremely clean, however there was a terrible smell coming from the bathroom. We had our children with us so the smell was making us uncomfortable. I think the hotel knew about this issue however it seems its a problem deep within the drainage system and cannot be fixed easily. However not to worry as soon as we mentioned it we were offered an alternative room and upgraded to a larger suite. The staff were great. Another thing to mention the on - site SPA was brilliant, not the cheapest around however and amazing relaxing experience.

As mentioned above only the slight issue with the odor in the room but this was sorted out with a room move and the remainder of our trip was very smooth and the whole family enjoyed it.

With Centara being a well reputed international hotel chain, you are sure you will be in good hands. Staff was very friendly and helpful, from the porter and night guard to housekeeping and reception. Breakfast was great with an amazing view (the sea, palmtrees, tropical little islands) to wake up to. The rooms (in the bungalows, surrounded by well kept tropical gardens) are very well equiped and they really make you feel like you are in Thailand (and not in some sterile environment that could be anywhere). As it was low season, we had the pools and beach practically to ourselves and thanks to booking.com we got a great deal to boot. We will definitely return if we get the chance to.

There was only one coffee machine and toaster in the restaurant. I can imagine that in high season this might cause some waiting time (but maybe they add some extras then)

Lovely rooms situated in gorgeous gardens running from the lobby to the beach. Good swimming pools with plenty of shade available. Excellent spa. Good breakfast included and good, reasonably priced food in general. Easy access to the main road with lots of restaurants, convenience stores, laundry, ATMs, etc.

Housekeeping could be very late in the day (but understandable to be a bit short staffed after the very tough times for tourism). At dinner on our last night the food was very slow and some people's food arrived a LONG time after others. They then closed the bar very early (around 9.45) so by the time my brother had settled his young children to bed and come back to enjoy a final drink with us he had to push very hard before the staff would agree to serve him a drink. Nothing major but it was a shame to have this sour note after a really wonderful week here.

Beautiful room decor. I also requested something romantic and the hotel happily arranged this for our arrival. The breakfast was really good. Lots of options and very tasty. The pools are nice and usually loungers were available. Happy Hour by the pool was always fun.

Maybe a shuttle service to take residents to other places. Transport on the island isn't great if you don't have your own motorbike.

The staff went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. They would book our taxis, rent our scooters (including taking care of the hand in) and would bring our coffee at the buffet without asking once they got to know us. The beach location was just paradise, the resort itself dreamlike. Could recommend everyone to go here.

The resort is about 5 to 10 minutes walk from the main road, which can be annoying when you need to do a quick errand in the burning heat. Would've also loved to have on-site scooter rental like many other resorts. If you wanted to rent something you would have to let them know one day in advance.
