Breakfast and dinner lovely and well organised. Food and quality superb. Service was good: realised that there were staff shortages and waiting times happened sometimes as a result. These were resolved sensitively and without hassle. Room was OK: had to ask for a makeover one day as rubbish not collected and no milk. Dealt with satisfactorily. Would help if there was independent shower to bath, as I had difficulty getting in and out. (I'm 72!!)

I am nearly always given Room 11, which is my favourite: spacious, comfortable, and with lovely view of the river. The attitude of the staff is always friendly and helpful. It is great to be able to eat either inside, or outside by the river.

The breakfast could be better...English breakfasts are notoriously far inferior to those in European hotels.....where there is always a huge choice of breads, fresh preserves (not in cheap plastic sachets), etc, etc. But I was mainly disappointed by the lack of adequate fruit....no grapefruit, no compotes, and often only one or two apples and one banana. Why not a large, varied fruit bowl? Also, the main dinner menu has too few vegetarian options compared with the variety of meat and fish dishes.

The room was well equipped and clean. Overall condition of room was “tired”, and could do with some refreshment around bath and other paintwork. Breakfast was tasty and easy to get. Staff were helpful and friendly. Dinner was always very good and the service was pretty quick considering the numbers of guests

General outside condition of building was a little tired, given the age of the property. The inside areas were clean and inviting. The outside spaces made full use of the wonderful location. Parking areas were easy to use and had plenty of space for the guests.

The room was a good size. The bed was large and comfortable. The shower was nice and powerful. The free WiFi was very good and enabled me to connect my laptop and use virgin go for TV. The restaurant was fair with a reasonable sized menu. Plenty of parking and space was available even when the pub/restaurant was very busy. Sitting outside in the sunshine watching people enjoy the river, whilst enjoying a drink was most enjoyable.

The TV had plenty of channels, but mostly the different areas for BBC and itv, so in reality not much. During the warm weather we had, the room would have benefited from having a small fridge. This would have helped to keep drinks and chocolate snacks etc. cool. Coke can be pretty awful when tepid.

menu and food were good, room was good size and comfortable en-suite was a bit dated would have preferred a nice shower cubical rather than a bath/shower.

The outside let the property down paintwork flaking and the grounds need tidying up (leaves all over the car park) terraces could do with re-paving. I know in these times money is hard to find but we visited this hotel several years ago and it needed redecorating and smartening up on the outside then!!

Great location and very peaceful. Breakfast was very good. Lots of choice and a great service. Dinners were also very good and the service was always first class. Great desserts! Good value for money. The bed was particularly comfortable and very large. Perfect for tall/ larger people. Good size rooms and good facilities. Service was always cheerful, helpful and efficient. We would recommend this place. Great views of the river and Harry the Herron.

We would have preferred filter coffee at breakfast rather than instant. We had an issue with wasps getting into our room which was not so pleasant, the staff did everything in their power to rectify the situation but unfortunately there was not an alternative room. Pest control were called but could not find the nest although we could see clearly where the wasps were coming from. Not ideal but the window had to be sealed with a towel in the bathroom to stop them coming in.

Excellent location next to the river,weir. Beautiful countryside. All staff friendly, respectful and helpful. We had room overlooking the river and this was clean and comfortable. Food was excellent with good menu and prompt service. Any request we had was dealt with quickly and with good assistance.

Nothing we didn't like. Only suggestion would be to have set of drawers in the room as only hanging area and small shelves.

We didn't have breakfast as had other plans. This has been our favourite place to stay for 17 years, as we visit our grandson in Tiverton, we stayed at Best Western Hotel in Tiverton during the years the fisherman's cot wasn't dog friendly..or just had 1 room for dogs, do happy whoever's running it now understands dogs are such a big part of the family x our room was so spacious! Everything was so clean, and warm, lovely hot bath/ shower, and massive comfy bed, oh my! What more do you need?

Nothing to dislike

Very clean comfortable bed. Friendly attentive staff. Super garden, although was part fenced off. Lovely breakfast with a good view of the river and bridge.

We were travelling with dogs in the car. It was difficult to find anywhere safe to exercise them properly , although it was possible to go round the back of the pub, although not ideal. The food I ordered for dinner inthe evening turned out to be pretty basic, and not particularly special. Would have liked two chairs in the room.

beautiful location. the bed was enormous and really comfy. good food and the staff were super. great location to explore north and south Devon. We really enjoyed the setting and it felt great sitting by the riverside outdoor table area, enjoying the scenery, whilst you could hear the River Exe rushing by. people were actually fishing the river when we were there. I would definitely go again.

Our visit was in the middle of a heatwave and the lack of aircon was noticeable. they provided a large fan, which did help, but it’s not the same.
