The Watergate Inn

Location was excellent. I really liked the room and felt it was very pretty, light and airy. The toilet facilities were a lot better than I had expected and very clean and came with soap and shower gel. The wifi was fast and useful. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The only thing I would have preferred is if there was a breakfast. However, the staff were very informative on why we didn't get breakfast and said that they hadn't yet got a chef for breakfast yet so I didn't find it too much of an issue anyway, especially considering there were lots of breakfast places nearby such as 'Spring'.

Me and a friend needed a place to meet and rest our heads for a night. The b&b was easy to reach by car with secure parking, we didn’t see any staff as it was all self service but we didn’t have any problems so it wasn’t needed. In previous reviews I have read it did say noise was an issue and as we were on the bottom floor we did get some noise from up stairs and outside but not much and once we fall sleep we both slept well. No complaints we had a lovely trip. Thank you

The only thing we would have liked was if a member of staff introduced themselves to answer any questions we had, however as I said before we had no problems so it wasn’t a problem

Fab location, and parking available too. The food at the pub was really nice too. Great for what we needed.

The door (to room 14) opens directly to outside. Currently the door opens towards the wall, which meant the whole room and people in it can be seen by everyone outside when the door is opened. It would work better if the door was changed to open the other way, and keep some privacy for people in the room. Also the heating was on too hot so it was a very warm night! We would stay here again though.

The Watergate is a pleasant place to stay 5/10 minutes away from the centre of York. The rooms are cosy, with comfy beds and good showers, and the staff were very helpful and welcoming. The bar at the front of the inn is a nice place to have a drink, and food is available too, although we didn't have any on this visit. There are cafes, shops and other pubs very close by, and the Brew York brewery is a few doors up the road. We had a double room and a twin room, and the place was useful for a family trip to York, although would have been suitable for a couple or solo traveler as well. Also, the advert states that there is no parking, but there is a car park available to guests after 3pm. If you need to park earlier then Peel Street car park is 5 mins away, where you can park for 24 hours for 13 pounds.

It was quite loud late into the night, with other guests making lots of noise.

Nothing! No frills as expected but it’s a great little place

Very comfy bed. Very clean. Great location. Parking included. Great use of space and building very attractive looking, very much York looking. Very quiet area, considering next to a pub, you wouldn't know you were.

No air con. No fan provided despite it being extremely hot overnight. Other guests coming back to hotel late at night, who had no concept of shutting doors quietly, instead allowing them to slam and wake us up. Coffee pod machine in room would be a big bonus. Not a fan of Nescafe instant with UHT milk, sorry.

The hotel was in a great location with great facilities but it could have been a bit more "up to date" in terms of the rooms. I spoke to the staff and they have great plans for the place after recently taking over. The staff were brilliant with us and couldn't do enough, with a special mention for Monika. She was very welcoming and was an absolute star, a great asset to the business. The bar was great too, and the food was lovely. I would definitely stay there again.

It would be unfair to say I didn't like anything, but it will go up another level once all of the rooms have been updated.

The staff were very friendly, the room was small but tiny (as expected at these low prices), the shower worked well and it is based close to lots of nice pubs and York town centre (about a 20-25 min walk from the train station).

Just opposite is a shisha bar that apparently stays open until the early hours even on a weekday...I'd recommend ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
