The Francis Hotel

The Francis is located in a quiet neighborhood, but it is still within walking distance of many restaurants, bars, and shops. It is also a short drive to the Old Port and other popular tourist destinations. The rooms and common areas at The Francis are very clean and well-maintained. The beds are comfortable and the linens are fresh and clean. The Francis is housed in a historic building that has been beautifully restored. The hotel has a lot of character and charm.

I did not have any real dislikes about The Francis. It was a great place to stay.

Spacious room, extremely clean, nice location. Great cup of coffee in the morning. Free parking. We walked down to central Portland, which is a nice scenic walk.

The parking lot was difficult to find, especially since we were given unclear instructions. If you know how to get there it is easy but there are no signs on how to get there. Maybe a small map to indicate how to get there could be of help to future guests. Furthermore, one of the staircases is blocked by a small chain. This can pose a serious risk in case of emergency. It being on the map of our emergency exit route, I think it should be clear of any obstacles!!

The architecture of the building is beautiful, and the common space had a fire going which was cozy. We had a big room and everything was clean. The location is great right across the street from Tandem. We would stay here again.

It is a nice offering to be able to text the hotel if we need anything, but we stayed 2 nights and were texted 8 times by the hotel with reminders or questions like whether we wanted the room cleaned. To us, it felt like a lot, but that was personal preference.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. We contracted Covid during our stay at Francis and we drove back home. The Francis staff was accommodating in reimbursing the none used time we have booked. We were sad that our vacations came to an end but appreciated the helpfulness of the staff. Worthy to mention is that the beds are extremely comfortable.

The Francis is quite expensive and for the price you pay, I would think that a breakfast should be included. There is no coffeemaker in the room, but a tiny minibar. Also the storage space to store away clothes is limited.

Nice historic building surrounded by history. Good view from the room and good shower. Enjoyed not having carpet and everything was clean. Nice lobbies to sit in with comfortable furniture.

Not very friendly and would have welcomed advice to where to walk and where restaurants were. The restaurant on site was closed a few days and open Thurs-Sat.

I liked how convenient the location is in Portland. It's at most a half hour walk away from basically anything you want. The rooms are very nice and spacious too. They even go the extra mile and share a ton of nearby restaurants, attractions, etc.

Parking, while off street, can be a little tight, but that's to be expected while in a city. It can be a little loud, depending on your neighbors, but there is quiet time so it kinda fixes itself.

This was a lovely spa hotel within a 20 minute walking distance of the old town. The room was large and well laid out with all amenities. The staff were very accomodating and friendly. The location was ideal for us as we were travelling around the are sight seeing rather than needing to be in the centre of town.

Wonderful little place in Portland. Great rooms, large and spacious (handicapped room). Fantastic and attentive staff. Neighborhood has nice restaurants and it's easy to walk around. We'd go back there anytime.

Only negative is the parking area is on a hilly street (makes it a challenge for handicapped in wheelchair).

Loved teh comfortable bed, the min split so no heat fan going off and on all night, the modern decor, the healthy instant coffee - a first!

Cleaning products with synthetic fragrance can't be used by people like me, with chemical sensitivities. Also offering sugary buns for breakfast - really? Also, the construction outside starts early and is loud.

The hotel was beautiful, in a great location and had amazing food available for breakfast that was brought up to the room. I have never had such good baked goods and coffee in my life! The staff were nice very helpful, checkin and checkout were effortless. Room cleaning was also good, I have stayed at hotels recently that did not do room cleaning due to Covid; that was nice. The bathroom and the shower products were excellent; loved the moisturizer! Excellent mini-bar and snacks in the room too.

The room we had was on a top floor and the windows were small because they were part of the building cornice. I did not realized this when I booked the room, and there were not many rooms left so it was probably the only choice. The room was still bright, but it would have been nice to have the big tall windows like the other rooms. They were also a type of window that could not be opened. Just something to keep in mind if you book on the third floor.
