Mills Lake

Mills Lake is considered to be one of the most beautiful lake hikes at RMNP. The trailhead for the Mills Lake is Glacier Gorge which is on the West side of the Continental Divide near Bear Lake. One can take their car to the trailhead parking lot or take a free shuttle that runs from RMNP to Bear Lake which is available after the Memorial Day Weekend through summer. The distance of the Mills Lake trail is 2.5 miles one-way. The hike is full of scenic beauty. The hikers would also see Alberta falls (0.6 miles from trailhead) on their way to the destination. Once you reach your destination you would be mesmerized by the beauty of the lake and the panoramic view of Longs Peak, Pagoda Mountain and Chiefs Head Peak to the South. This hike is relatively easy; making it a popular choice for families.

Dream and Emerald Lake

Hiking to this trio is easy and full of beautiful experiences. The hike to these lakes is accessible from Bear Lake trailhead at RMNP. You can take your car or use the free shuttle to reach the trailhead. Once you are there, you can follow the signs that lead to these three lakes. The Nymph Lake is located at 0.5 mile, one-way from the trailhead. This is the perfect destination for a family with small kids because the hike is very easy. If you want to go farther, then follow the sign towards Dream Lake which is located at 1.1 miles, one-way from the trailhead. This is also a very easy hike which can be good for first-time hikers. The third and the last lake on this trio, Emerald Lake, is at a distance of 1.8 miles from the trailhead, not bad at all. Emerald Lake is at the valley between Hallett Peak and Flattop Mountain. The view of all three lakes is majestic and will leave only smiles on your face. There is also a good chance that you will encounter elks during your hike. It’s definitely a family-friendly and easy-going trip.

These are just a few of the hiking destinations at RMNP. RMNP has many more hiking trails that lead to the breathtaking view and memorable experience. The entrance fee for an automobile is $20; for pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, and mopeds is $10 and the park passes are valid for seven consecutive days including the day of purchase. If you purchase the RMNP annual pass for $40, it is valid for a year.
