Meet our awesome kick-ass cat, Scout!

Updated August 2, 2023

You’ve seen him around the site… you’ve admired his beautiful fur… you’ve dreamed of bringing him home… so now, let me formally introduce you to Scout!

Alex and I adopted our cat Scout early this past spring. When we first met Scout, his name was Adam. Our friend JoAnna was fostering him, and as soon as I saw him I grabbed Alex’s arm and said, “THAT’S SCOUT!” I’ve wanted to adopt a pet and name it Scout for about two years now. Doesn’t he look like a Scout? He’s got raccoon eyes and brown on his tail. The rest of his body is cream colored.

Pet abandonment seems to be a bit more of a problem here in Vegas than anywhere else I’ve lived. I’ve written about this before, but soon after we moved in, a family across the street moved out… and then there were cats living in the sewer on our street. I don’t know this for sure, but it seems that when the family moved, they just dumped their cats. I tried to call animal control about them, but they told me that they wouldn’t pick up the cats unless I had already trapped them.

As I’ve no idea how to trap sewer cats and I’m not entirely sure that would be a safe endeavor, I was a bit baffled by that. Isn’t that what animal control is supposed to do? Am I wrong? Thus the sewer cats, who at this point have become quite feral, still roam our street, occasionally battling each other to see who will be King of the Sewer.

In any case, Scout is obsessed with Alex and it’s really funny to watch him stalking Alex around the house. And yes, in case you’re wondering, we named TravelScout after our furry little friend.

Scout is the mascot for our little Firefox add-on, so you’ve probably already seen his picture around the site on our ‘I can has vacation?’ adds. However, I wanted to formally introduce you to the junior member of our Travelated team!
