Travelated Navigation Information for Seattle

While visiting Seattle, there are a few things you should know in order to facilitate your navigation around the city.

First, North/South streets are typically labeled as “Avenues” or “Boulevards” or “Ways.” Conversely, East/West streets are named “Streets.”

Second, Seattle for the most part is on a 3X3 grid with the following directional sectors: east, southwest, west, south, north, northeast, and northwest. Of note, street addresses are labeled with the sector first and then the street name whereas avenue addresses are labeled with the sector name after.

Third, there are a few important exceptions to the aforementioned: (a) downtown Seattle streets and avenues do not have directional sectors; (b) there is no southeast label; (c) avenues east of downtown do not have directional labels after the name whereas the streets are labeled with an east designation; and (d) streets north of downtown do not have directional labels but the avenues are labeled with a north designation.

Finally, for those interested in public transportation there is the efficient and affordable Metro Transit or Link Light Rail.
