Holiday Inn Express Mechelen City Centre, an IHG Hotel

This is a nice hotel with a very central location in Mechelen (2-3 minutes to the city center) and very helpful staff. The rooms are comfortable for a short stay - for a longer one it would be helpful to have a small table in the room and the restaurant on the premises, but otherwise it is rather fine. The breakfast had some variety and the food was nice. There were some renovations ongoing, but they were not disturbing. Finally, Wi-Fi was quite good.

The hotel is within walking distance from the train station and the city center. It is clean and modern. We got a room straight away even though we arrived way before the actual check-in time. The staff was super friendly. Our room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The breakfast was pretty good as well.

Room was a reasonable size for a three night stay and very clean. Breakfast was a continental with a good choice just a little busy at times. Location was good, Mechelen-Nekkerspoel train station 10 minutes walk and Grote Markt a short walk with bars and restaurants.

Nothing really, hotel met our expectations.

Very good breakfast with eggs/omelette, crepe and waffle maker, cold meat and cheese platter, a very big selection of jams, cereals, oats and sweets. USB charging ports on wall sockets. Very comfortable bed. Iron and ironing board was a plus!

A minibar/small fridge would be a nice addition.

We received a freshly renovated room and there was a quite strong smell of painting or new furniture, thus we need to keep window open all the time. As well, after the room renovation the cleaning was not completed fully: painting dust in the toilet and shower. In the room there is enough space for coffee table, but it was not there.

There is a parking under the hotel but the price was quite expensive (€15? per night). We parked somewhere else (Parking Zandpoortvest) for only €5.

I asked for a double bed and for a room on the first floor (my boyfriend not being very mobile) and I immediately received a positive reaction from the hotel. The reception really is extremely friendly. The bed was soft and very comfortable.

The heating was perfectly adequate on cold days such as these, but it is a bit noisy. I had problems falling asleep the first night because of this. The next night it didn't bother me, so maybe just a question of getting used to it. My boyfriend didn't much like the cushions.

Great breakfast, great location, the staff were exceptional helpful and understanding to my needs. I stayed for a month, nothing was too much they really looked after me. I'm so grateful and thankful.
