Compass Rose Heritage Inn

The free breakfast was amazing, The location and views were definitely worth recommending. The atmosphere was very friendly. I had booked the place for my parents who haven't travel much in Canada outside of Ontario and Quebec. Grand Manan Island's one of the best reviewed place was Compass Rose. According to my parents, it exceeded expectations. Hotel level service in a more intimate setting. The people, staff and environment was very friendly especially considering we are a different race from the population.

Honestly there were no complaints from my parents who were staying there. At least nothing that made a dent in the overall experience.

Breakfast was awesome. We couldn't have had better. The dinner was delightful. So popular that even if you stayed there you needed a reservation. The view from the dining room overlooked the bay. It was overcast when we were there but we enjoyed seeing the water below. Grand Manan Island was a total surprise. We enjoyed the ferry ride over and back. The Lighthouse, the Anchorage beach, the small towns along the coast. We went there to get to Machias Seal Island to see the puffins. A bucket list destination. We were surprised that Grand Manan Island had so many surprises such as Compass Rose Heritage Inn.

The weather could have been better. It was overcast most of the time there, but that can happen on an island off the coast of New Brunswick.

The Compass Rose Heritage Inn is where time stood still, but in a good way. The hotel has an authentic charm with an amazing view overlooking the water. Lots of outdoor areas to sit and relax. The room was clean with a very comfortable bed and we slept really well. Bathroom was tiny but the inn is restricted in space by the age of the building. We had dinner there twice, both times a tasty home cooked meal with delicious fresh bread. Breakfast was also lovely. Staff were very friendly and really made this place extra special! Would definitely return!

We were placed in the Katy room at the Flagg Home next door to the Compass Rose. There were so many things that we liked about this room! First off, it wasn’t just a room. We had an entryway. We had a beautiful window that looked out onto the water. It was tastefully decorated too to the period in which the home was built. There were modern amenities too like the refrigerator and microwave to make the room comfortable for our century.

Everything was as it was described on the website. We have no complaints.

The Ebenezer Suite is a spacious room with a living area, and included everything that we could possibly need for a week. The bed was comfortable, the couch and chairs were comfortable, and the outdoor seating on the deck was great too. The breakfasts each morning were fantastic - probably the best french toast that I have ever eaten. The hosts are wonderful people, they are kind and caring, and are there if you need them (we didn't). Also, there is a restaurant on-site, but there are also other restaurants within walking distance, which is great if you want to try some other foods.

We loved everything, it was a wonderful place to stay. If you are a late sleeper or sensitive sleeper (we are early risers), noise from ships, loud cars, or if there are super loud people staying in the room upstairs (we only had this issue one morning), you might get woken up early (before 7am). They provided a small fan that actually drowned out most of the noise, but a very sensitive, late sleeper might get woken up. That being said, breakfast is from 8-9, and you don't want to miss it!

Compass Rose is a well kept charming historical inn. our bedroom Calico had a comfortable bed, sofa, bedside reading lights and spacious bathroom. It also had a refrigerator and microwave. Breakfast was included with an entree and fruit. Supper was available and it was OK ( but I know of no better choice on the island.) The island is magnificent!

The lobster pasta had Very little lobster the second night. Maybe they were running out? But it’s the best dining on the island!

Very close to the Ferry terminal, only 10 minutes walking distance. Actually the inn is a historical site with two buildings. We stay in a 1st floor apartment unit and have everything like staying in our own home including bedroom, full kitchen set and dinner table, as well as washer and dryer. We can cook and make coffer. Our unit face to the seabeach with a beautiful sea viewing. The free breakfast is super and the menu is different on each day.

Beautiful room with harbour view, with wonderful hosts. The hosts went at great length to accomodate our vegan breakfast wishes. This resulted in great oats with blueberries, for example. The Compass Rose boasts a good restaurant too, one of the few on Grand Manan.

Water pressure really poor to non-existent in the morning when everyone takes a shower. Works going on in the harbour could cause noise, although we were there during a weekend when they did not work. When the first boat arrives, some early morning traffic noise from cars coming off the ferry.

The view, the convenience to the ferry landing and of having food onsite. The breakfast of bacon, eggs, and homemade bread was delish.

More prominent Pictures of the stairs that you have to navigate to your room. An a/c option if weather continues to be in the 80’s + in room and bathroom. Maybe an explanation at breakfast what your options are, I’d hate you to bring me something I would not eat or drink.

We were in the Marigold room and it was absolutely amazing - very spacious, beautifully decorated and awesome. The location is great, the hosts are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast really good - homemade bread is amazing!

The only minor suggestion would be to also have a less carb heavy option for breakfast … we were served French toast one morning and pancakes the other.
