Château de la Verie

Breakfast was excellent. Good choice laid out and lovely ambience in the breakfast room. Fresh orange juice, nice pastries wonderful selection of fresh fruit, boiled egg on request... Swimming pool was wonderful. Nice big bathroom. Grounds were extensive and peaceful.

Would recommend upgrading to a first floor, not attic bedroom as the stairs took their toll after a long day and the attic rooms though nicely furnished were not as airy with just a small window - thank goodness for the room fan. Although I quite understand the (good) reasons why, it was a faff to ring the mobile number to order drinks and with no on-site restaurant it meant having to drive to find somewhere to eat (almost impossible on a Sunday!).

Nice big rooms with comfortable beds and beautifully decorated with paintings and antiques, lovely grounds to walk around, nice clean pool and good location around 15/20 mins away from the beach

The breakfast was £12 euros each per morning which isn’t too bad I just wish there was more hot options. At the end of the stay €40 euros was added on from 10 small drinks from the fridge in the room, which calculates to €4 each, a little expensive for small bottles of water/orange juice and no sign on the fridge to show how much each drink was, on the sign outside of the hotel and in the book in the hotel room it says about a restaurant however there isn’t a restaurant. There are a few restaurants in town only a few minutes away if you do want to go for a meal.

The chateau is absolutely stunning in its attention to detail. The owners have worked magic with their devotion to this property. The gardens are beautiful, the rooms are luscious and the property stands out as an absolute gem in the little invillage of Challan. We loved the breakfast in such an elegant setting. It’s worth driving out of your way to experience this incredible place and the very special owners who have made a wonderful oasis where you’d least expect it.

Absolutely nothing!

It is a beautiful building, in extensive grounds. The pool was small but perfect after a long day travelling; surrounded by trees it was very peaceful. The bed was very wide and comfortable. The shower was powerful, it is nice to have a bathtub. The dinig room looks over the sheep meadow, which is lovely at breakfast.

The room was quite small and dark, with a view of the carpark. We could hear the nighbours above and beside us. The breakfast was nice, but at 12 euros it was expensive for viennoisieries and dairy products, fruit.

it’s starting to show a bit of wear and tear. to be expected in such a castle. these last 4 years were tough on everyone and everything. still, awesome place

Bedrooms were excessively hot + 28C at night . Rooms need air conditioning . I was surprised not to see solar panels anywhere .

The owner is a very pleasant and caring. We arrived much later than estimated but he met us with a warm smile. The estate is magnificent!

It was cold at night as the heating was off (we were the only guests in the entire chateau and I can umderstand that, but for a traveler with a child it was a bit uncomfortable).

As expected, it was a real treat for us to stay in a proper chateau. Our room was enormous, very comfortable and with a lovely view over the grounds. Breakfast was extensive and also felt luxurious being in a chateau dining room with fabulous chandelier. we were on a cycle tour and provision was easily made to store our bikes securely inside. Excellent large bed too. would love to come back

Lovely romantic setting for any couple, owners friendly and welcoming. Breakfast excellent. Pool was a bonus, as were the white storks nesting on two of the chateau chimneys! Close to Challans with a good range of shops and restaurants.

We adored the lodging. Everything about the complex was gorgeous and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. Our room was marvelous, the breakfast was delicious, and a wonderful restaurant was suggested in Challans that we tried.

There was nothing that we didn't dislike.
