July 2022

My son & I had booked the Gold Palais Hotel in Prenzlauer Berg as our base for a 4 night stay culminating in an evening in the Olympiastadium to enjoy a Coldplay concert. We arrived late one Saturday afternoon in early July and parked for a short spell just across the road to the hotel. Check in was easy and managed by two friendly receptionists, a young man from Nepal and a nice young lady from Poland. Both spoke English. They explained the set up including what to do if we came back after 23:00 and the reception was no longer manned. This included having a key to open the side door and an emergency number... just in case. And they offered us the one remaining car park space in the underground parking area, costing 18,00 per 24 hours. Super. We left our car down there and didn't see it again for 4 days which was great. We had a room on the 2nd floor. The first thing we had to do was to go down to reception and ask them to separate the beds converting them from one double to two singles. No problem. Apart from the relatively comfortable beds, the room was very clean and modern. We had a modern desk, chair and large wardrobe with a safe. We didn't make much use of the largish flat screen TV but were happy that there was free WiFi and enough sockets for all our electronic equipment. There was a kettle and enough coffee and tea to keep us happy. The separate bathroom was also ultra clean and modern. I liked the large, walk in shower with two shower heads, including the rainforest one which needed some repairs during our stay. The free bathroom amenities were from the "Grown Alchemist". All in all, we enjoyed our stay in this very new hotel. Once they've ironed out some of the things mentioned below this will be an even greater place to stay.

The room itself overlooked the busy, and noisy street. We left the window open overnight which, on hindsight wasn't so clever owing to the noise. We should simply have used the air conditioning. Apart from a vending machine in the reception area there were no other amenities like a breakfast room etc. We took our breakfast across the street in a local cafe and I used the late opening kiosk nearby for purchasing water and other drinks. I missed a fridge, but OK... One evening we came back really late and I had inadvertently forgotten my key. Unfortunately nobody answered the emergency number given. So we resorted to asking for help from a couple of guys lounging on their balcony on the 1st floor. They saved us from a night sleeping on the streets...

Very clean, staff friendly, facilities good

Website says sauna but wasn’t available. Breakfast would have been good or if not some breakfast items in the vending machine. Maybe this was just the time of year or post covid though.

The room was spacious, modern, very clean and comfortable. Good size room. The staff were very friendly and helpful Very good location in the Prenzlauer neighbourhood with lots of cafes, restaurants, Volkespark Fredrichshain parkland and 10-15 min walk to Alexanderplatz (transport hub for airport and rest of Berlin, shopping district) Easy access to public transport (Metro tram stop outside) Would definitely stay here again

No major dislikes - would stay there again A fridge in the room would be handy Air conditioning not very effective in hot weather. Reception provided additional fan Rooms at back of hotel are quieter than those facing the main road

The size of our hotel room was enormous. It more than adequately accommodated our family of three, with two separate sleeping areas, a sitting area, desk and large closet. Plenty of space for everyone, and everyone's things. Likewise, the bathroom was very large, with lots of room to store everyone's toiletries. Room was very clean. Beds were comfortable. Air conditioning seemed to work adequately. Windows could open out onto a residential courtyard. Location was very quiet. There wasn't an abundance or variety of restaurants or stores nearby. Very good access to the tram and a nearby taxi stand. Though there was staff present at all times, we didn't really interact with them very much.

This hotel didn't appear to be very full or busy with guests during our stay. Perhaps a bit out of the way. It was a good 20-25 minute walk to the Hackescher Market area, where most of our tours seemed to originate from. Also a fair distance from the train station, and many of Berlin's main attractions. We frequently took cabs during our visit. We also took a cab to the airport from this hotel. It was supposed to be a 45 minute ride from the hotel, but ended up taking us over an hour ... due to a traffic shut down in a tunnel. Understand this happens from time to time. So plan to go early.

the hotel staff are really helpful , I didn't had any issue checking in or out , the location is very close to Alexanderplatz , there is tram line and busses just in front of the hotel takes you to Alexandrplatz and from there you can change to anywhere, very safe area to walk in the evening and even late in the night , many delicious food options in the area and massive park to go for a jog or walk or set and have coffee.

I didn't like to go home and I wish I could stay longer , there was no mini fridge in the room , but that's OK for budget stay

Our dogs had bowls and a bed ready for them in the room - this was great! The hotel was very clean and fairly quiet - I really liked the fact there was no loud music in the foyer. The location was also good and very close to the tram stop.

I was charged EUR20 per night per dog! I have two very small dogs and found this to be excessive. I asked for a reduction but didn’t get one…but also didn’t get a proper reason why not…policy. If it wasn’t for this the hotel would have gotten full marks from me.

I rented two rooms for myself and my niece: Superior and Small with Balcony. Superior room was amazing: spacious, with huge shower, plenty of chairs to relax on. A separate nice touch was a knitted blanket to feel cozy. Small Room had a very lovely balcony, which I would highly recommend if you are visiting during a warmer season. Overall, both rooms had new furniture, were clean, quiet, had good wi-fi signal, water pressure was also good, and hot water was really hot and available immediately.

I've been told it's a German nuance: tiny single blankets. I'd wish the blanket was bigger. Also, reception sometimes was empty and I had to wait, but the staff was overall helpful.

Great location, only two mins by tram to Alexanderplatz, a convenient travel hub of Berlin. We booked a room facing the courtyard as reviews said the trams could be heard from a street facing room. We heard nothing though we stayed in February and there weren’t many guests. Rooms were clean; staff very helpful and access via a card operated door if you come back after 11pm.

Breakfast was not available presumably because there weren’t many guests. But lots of fine cafes outside. The double bed came with two single duvets but that may be a German thing!

Great Wi-Fi. I worked from my room 5 straight days. My work requires me to be online the whole time and the wifi worked great, had video-calls without a single problem. The hotel is located in front of a Tram Station, which makes it super easy to connect to Alexanderplatz (just a 4 min ride - you can even walk if you fancy), and there's an affordable Supermarket (Aldi Nord) just 400m away. There's also a nice café right across the street. Quiet zone but good location.

There was some work being done on the ground floor. I didnt hear ANY noise, but the reception-floor was empty (just a few couches) and not fancy/comfortable-looking - its not a hotel one would have a drink in. Other that that, everything worked out great.
