We were staying for one night on our way from the north to Italy. And that is what this hotel is mainly used for it looks like. The room was very spacious and it had all the things you need for a one night stay. Beds were huge and very comfortable. The breakfast was very extensive and staff was friendly and helpful. Restaurant at night was not open but you are allowed to order food and have it delivered at the hotel. Nice big field of grass right next to the hotel with lawn chairs. Bathroom was modern. Room itself is maybe a little bit outdated, but for the amount per night I am not complaining about that. I found it a nice touch that you still need to use the "classic" key to enter the room and not a card.

We wanted to go to the city of Basel for dinner. Keep in mind there is no Uber/Bolt, but just "normal" taxi's and the fares are quite high. The hotel can call one for you. Ended up going by our own car to Basel which is only a 10 minute drive. This would be around €35,- for one way if you go by taxi. So this is not something the hotel has any influence on, just something to keep in mind. One thing we found a little bit outdated is the restaurant. The theme is "Cowboys and Indians". It has a lot of little statutes and paintings that portrait cultural appropriation and stereotyping. Even on picture/painting sexualising Native Americans.

What a brilliant place! From walking in the door I was made to feel welcome, every single staff member was lovely to me, I had a great nights sleep, the bed was so comfy and a fantastic breakfast in the morning. Perfect location for the motorway yet timucked away in a leafy green corner. Staff were literally fantastic

The only (very small ) thing I could comment on was room was quite sparse and a bit dated. I’d booked a cheap end room admittedly as just me and on a big drive, more observation that’s criticism

Loads of parking on arrival. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Sadly, their restaurant is closed on a Monday, but with some helpful and detailed guidance from reception we found an eatery down by the river. On our return we were disappointed to find the tea and coffee service in reception was closed. No problem, when the wonderful Cyril is on duty (!). He showed us the variety of tea they had available and delivered a tray with 2 cups of piping hot tea. Now that's what I call service. 😊 Excellent breakfast, all you could eat and more! Michael, in the restaurant, was really friendly and helpful. Next time we journey across Europe, via Basel, we will definitely be returning.

Restaurant closed on a Monday evening. No tea or coffee making facility in room, unless you book a superior one.

Great location next to highway on the border of Switzerland and Germany. Mexican restaurant and breakfast are great

It’s a somewhat outdated hotel that may need a renovation, meeting with current standards. Having to pay extra for airconditioner is a clear example; lots of rooms without airco. Restaurant staff needs some training on “smiling”: serving guests with a passion and make them feel comfortable is not just a job, but key in the hospitality industry.

The room we had was spacious enough for a couple and a dog. The bed was super big and comfortable. The location was perfect for us as it's super close to Swiss border + free parking on hotel's area (super large and green so it was pleasant to stay outside in the evening even though we've stayed there only one night). Breakfast is very good here, large variety of everything and of good quality. Really recommend this place to stay.

What would be traveling to Switzerland without the Carat-Hotel? Well that's hard to imagine. The strategic location right at the border including an in-house Mexican Grill and bar leans itself for a cross-border visit to Switzerland without loosing any precious minute of the holiday. If one knows the Carat-Hotel, one will be happy to see the same interior and the same keys every time, every year, every decade. O wait a minute, why not refurbishing a little bit? Well, tradition and reliability are kept high in the Carat hotel. Why change something if it works fine and all sorts of guests still seem to be happy. It is even possible to bring a dog, the breakfast is wonderful, and the reception is open 24/7. What else can one ask for?

The native old Indian chief sculpture serving the breakfast plate is outdated and can be misunderstood as a sign of bad taste and racism. It should be removed a.s.a.p.

Nice room. Slept very well in the beds which are more comfortable than the ones I have at home. The breakfast was very good. In Germany they know how to make healthy bread with fiber. The juice was made of fresh oranges. Delicious. Fruit dessert, yoghurt and all the usual stuff for breakfast. Eggs were kept warm in some special sand. Better than most other places. And finally something you only find in Germany: Small, tasty Leberwurst wrapped in plastic. Other countries has also Lebrwurst (Norway, Switzerland), but only in Germany do they taste nice. The staff in reception and restaurant are VERY kind. If you eat in the hacienda in the evening, better reserve a table beforehand. This place is very popular and the Mexican food is spicy and unresistable. For a few minutes you leave Rheinland and find yourself in a sunny farm in Mexico. Guten Appetit.

This hotel is half way between our home town and our frequent destination in Tuscany. It is easy to reach, has a friendly reception desk, a great restaurant and serves an exceptional breakfast.

The only negative point was the chief waitress at the Hazienda restaurant where we enjoyed a great dinner. She was in a hurry, did not look at us when she took our order and seemed to urge us to leave even before we finished our coffee.

Room was spacious, well-soundproofed (next to the motorway) and the access easy, and parking sufficient. Restaurant in the hotel (not much close by other than MacDo). Very good breakfast - excellent value for money.

wifi did not seem to work - 3 devices and not a one of them could connect to the internet. Could have been something with the router or whatever... the hotel also seems to be in a black hole when it comes to 4/5G connectivity - signal was very weak. Not their fault, but it left little to no option when the wifi did not work.
