Okuhida Hot spring Miyama Ouan

We had a huge room with an incredible view onto gorgeuous nature. It felt so private. Our room also had a circular bathtub. Ultimate luxurious experience. The food was also 5 star. The private onsen we used as a couple was really dreamy, this we reserved at the reception desk for specific times and we got a timeslot of 30min, but was more than enough. The communal onsen was beautiful and has seperated male and female. When we there in the ealry morning, it was almost empty. I thought the staff were very helpful and kind. They helped us to forward our luggage to another destination.

The town is not nice. Hirayu waterfalls is really beatifu however and not far away. We decided to walk. This hotel is a great place to stay for a couple nights.

The location was beautiful, the ryokan was really big. The entry and the baths were great, also the restaurant. The food was amazing and generous. We stayed two nights with dinner and breakfast. We really loved the onsen (public and private one) and the food there. Free ramen was also great. Free Yakult and milk were amazing. The room was really spacious. The bath tub in the room was also ok.

The room was not clean enough, there were a lot of stains on the wall and also dust. The sofa is also not that clean. It would be quite perfect if the room would have been clean too!

When someone pays this amount of money , you expect that the room is meticulously clean! But it was not. Dusty surfaces and some hair at the sofa ,that were immediately obvious (not talking about tiny details). The food was good ,not excellent, like some say here in some comments , a bit chaotic the situation because of the amount of people in the restaurant.

Nicest ryokan room we came across during our trip, perfect condition, very spacious, separate living room and bedroom, in-room onsen bath was fantastic, more comfortable beds than standard ryokans. The hotel's private onsen is incredible too, and even included in room price. Staff were all lovely, as is tradition in Japan.

In all fairness, I have had slightly better food at some other ryokans with a little more variety.

This place is amazing! We visited in January when everything was covered in snow, which really added to the ambiance of the place. Everything was well taken care of and clean. All the staff were so kind and helpful. The food at both breakfast and dinner was so so good! Yes it is a traditional Japanese experience, but if you go into it with an open mind willing to try everything they put in front of you then I think you will really enjoy the experience! My husband and I have tattoos, so out of respect for others we decided not to use the public baths, however the private baths are amazing. I really can't say enough good things about this place! We absolutely loved staying here!

Traveling here by car in the winter might be a little bit sketchy especially if you aren't an experienced mountain driver or are not comfortable driving in the snow. There is a bus that goes to the town and the hotel does provide a shuttle to the bus stop, so that is a good alternative if you don't like winter driving in the mountains.

The hotel layout is a bit complicated and makes it difficult to access some services.

We stayed at Miayama Ouan for three nights and we had an exceptional experience! We haven't felt so relaxed in a while thanks to all the amazing onsens, including our private onsen hot bath and two private outdoor onsens we tried during our stay. The food was exceptional as well, we had a chance to try so many different traditional delicacies here both for dinner and for breakfast. Each dinner and breakfast was an amazing experience with a beautiful view of the mountains. We also loved free snacks available such as ice cream or cold milk. Last but not least, the biggest highlight of this hotel is the staff! Throughout our whole stay everyone was very kind and welcoming. On our way back after check out we realized we forgot passports in our room. The hotel staff literally went an extra mile to help us. They arranged a bus driver to deliver the passports to us as soon as possible. They were extremely helpful during this emergency and we really appreciate it. We highly recommend staying at Miyama Ouan!

Absolutely everything. The staff, the facilities, the FOOD! It was all beyond our expectation. Staff in particular makes the stay even more enjoyable with their welcoming personalities. The dining staff Kotaro is very helpful and spoke great English. He made our dining experience very memorable. The dinner menu changes every day with Hida Beef being the main course, we really appreciated the thoughtfulness of the chef who considered various ways to prepare his menu. For those who have tattoos a private (outdoor) onsen is available to reserve (once a day for 30 minutes) so that you can also experience the joys of bathing outdoors too.

Great staff. Location is excellent too - only a short walk to the main station which is important in winter when it's snowing. The outdoor private onsens are lovely and don't need to be booked, you just turn up and if one is free you can go in. We never had any issues getting in. Dinner is great with the choice of barbecue or hotpot.

The indoor private onsens are definitely on the small side and a bit disappointing. If you have an onsen tub in your room there is no need to use them at all. As others have mentioned, the traditional breakfast is pretty challenging for westerners.

We absolutely loved this place , it snowed quite heavenly when we were there which was beautiful. They have outside private baths which took advantage of , soaking in a hot rock bath with snow coming down . They serve free hot sake in the lobby in the afternoon and free ramen at night .

We would have liked a simple breakfast choice as we are happy with tea and toast. It is a very traditional place so we had Japanese style breakfast,which was to much for us so for the reminder of the mornings we went out to a cafe for tea and toast , it’s a short walk. We are vegetarian which was a struggle, but if your a meat eater you will be fine .
