Parador de Lorca

We arrived by bicycle and were able to keep our bikes in a secure cycle storeroom. The views from the Lorca Parador are great, though our room didn't actually have the best view it was still pleasant. The ambience of the terrace bar was lovely, if a little windy, The air conditioning was very effective and the quietest I have ever come across. We have visited the Castle which adjoins the hotel before, and would recommend visiting it and the old castle remains around the Parador. All in all a great experience.

We were very happy with the whole stay, nothing negative to say. (All the information about the facilities of the Lorca Parador is available via a QR code which was stuck to the phone by the side of the bed which I didn't see until we were about to leave, I personally don't like using QR codes and it maybe a hang over from pandemic days, but maybe it suits other people better.)

Modern building blending in well with the surroundings. Nice and big room. We had dinner included and it was amazing to sit on the terrace with the view. The food at dinner was good, but not fantastic. The breakfast was better. It was good to be able to walk to the entrance to the castle. Free parking.

The pool was under a plastic roof but open to the outside, so on a hot day it gets very hot in there. It said 42 degrees when we where there, even if it was only 32 outside. But in the shower to the pool area the warm water didn't work so there you couldn't be warm instead. You had to walk quite far from the parking to the reception.

In pristine condition. Great views. Very clean and very large room.

The parking is very poor. 'Covered' it is, but partly by metal panel with thousands of holes which lets the rain drip down onto you while you try and unload the car - making you WETTER than if it was in the open! Also, very, very tight, so actually unloading from side doors needs the skills of a contortionist. Lastly...the parking was an unprotected walkway down/up to where the rooms and reception are. Lots of steps, and poorly-planned at such a modern and prestigious hotel... Rooms were indeed great, but sparsely decorated/appointed. Needs some interest on the walls, and a touch more thought going into their presentation, we feel.

This was the first Parador that we stayed in, it is built inside the walls of an old fort/castle on top of the hill overlooking Lorca. The building is has a truly amazing designed by Rafael Moneo and Enrique de Teresa, two Argentinean architects who's materials, interior spaces and conformance to the landscape reminded me of Frank Lloyd Wright. I cannot recommend this place enough. However, at first we booked a "twin" room, it was on a lower floor and sort of dark and small, the front desk said we would really prefer a "jr. suite", and we looked at both rooms and they were totally right! So if your budget allows DEFINITELY get this larger room, it is worth the extra Euro.....

Location, tranquility was great to just get away. Food was good, views fantastic. Room was good and as a surprise they delivered champagne and cake to the room for my partners birthday. The spa was also very good, one of the better spas that I have been to and a lovely indoor pool. Dinner and staff were very friendly, and the decor of the hotel was just like being in a castle and free parking! Which is always a bonus in Spain..would definitely recommend and go back again!

Nothing we didn’t really like only didn’t realise the rooms were without balconies, as would have been lovely to sit on the balcony and drink the champagne. Also disappointed there was not an option for cooked breakfast no type of eggs, not even boiled eggs.

Poor signage and lack of information about the hotel. The bar lacked ambience and was uncomfortable I paid for two spa treatments which were expensive and then I was expected to pay even more to use the spa pool and sauna. The pool was cold and closed all afternoon not opening until 4.30pm The restaurant terrace was closed on Friday night for a wedding which was on Saturday night. This was not mentioned when booking or by reception upon our arrival.

Friendly and attentive staff from start to finish. The Parador is a modern architectural gem that has been built to blend perfectly with its ancient surroundings. The quality of food and service throughout the day, evening and at breakfast was exceptional. Great value for money with this level of provision.

This is not the fault of the parador itself, but, if travelling by car, rely on local signage and not a satnav to get you there.

Obviously this hotel is amazing because it is a castle! The juxtaposition in architecture between old and modern is stunning. The view from the room was amazing, personally I would lay the rooms out differently so the bed would be facing the window and the seating area as one comes in, though I guess many people prefer to look at TV in bed rather than a stunning view?! The swimming pool is lovely and unusual to have a heated indoor pool in this region of Southern Spain, so a huge bonus especially with children not in summertime. The food and drinks available at breakfast were absolute perfection, a mixture of buffet but could also order a hot dish (though luckily I could read Spanish as otherwise would not have known..). The staff at the swimming pool/ reception of spa area were very friendly and helpful.

There was one rude man at reception in the evening who told me my daughter and I would not be able to use the pool after check out the next day as it was only for guests! This was incorrect and luckily the lady during the day graciously said of course I may. Personally I would prefer it if the pool opened before 11am. The servers at breakfast seemed a lot more attentive to the Spanish guests than the non-Spanish. Being on the top of a hill, there is of course a long walk to town and no footpath other than the pavement of the road. Direct steps (or even better a lift!) would make it exceptional.

Everything. Thank you booking.com for having this most spectacular beautiful hotel, on your books. Views beautiful. Staff wonderful. Swimming pool fabulous. Room gorgeous. Restaurant and bar great. Also you can sit on the terrace for a lovely meal and cold drink. Perfect parking for free. Parador de Lorca, you should be very proud, to have such a lovely hotel. 10/10 perfect in every way. We had a fabulous time, as it's walking distance to the castle.

There is nothing I did not like.

A grand entrance leading to a grand hotel. Entering through a tunnel under the castle to arrive at a modern, glass fronted building almost took your breath away. The hotel was set in the ruins of a medieval city.

The signposting for the pool and spa was below standard which resulted in a trip to the staff quarters where a cleaner had to direct us to the proper stairs. The pool was disappointingly small, though the view out of the window was good. The adjoining spa did not come in the hotel price and was disproportionately expensive.
