The Theva Residency

I would recommend Theva Residency to anyone visiting the Kandy area. It is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in, in terms of service, views and friendliness. The room - large enough, good air con, large balcony with a beautiful view and good amounts of furniture. Has the typical - a fridge, safe, kettle etc. Comfy bed. Strong shower, we had a bath too. WiFi can be a bit temperamental in the room. TV seemed to be stuck on 1 channel. The hotel - beautiful surroundings! Views from all windows in all areas are great. Very clean. It is up a mountain so you do need a tuk tuk to get in and out of Kandy itself but this is pretty easy to arrange either on PickMe app or the front desk will arrange one. It's around 10-15 minute tuk tuk ride from central Kandy and via PickMe that costs around 400 Sri Lankan rupees. Pool area - there is a lovely infinity pool (3ft to a max of 5ft depth) with 6 loungers, towels provided. We never had trouble with getting space. There is also a sauna! Also the staff are really helpful, friendly and nice. The manager helped us arrange some excursions and made things really simple for us to get out and see lots of the sights! Food - breakfast exceptional with a choice of continental egg based breakfast or traditional Sri Lankan - both lovely. We ate dinner here most nights and had generally great meals - the curries and fish are the best meals, I was a bit disappointed in the Nasi Goreng/fajitas as they were both surprisingly bland. Overall, it's a place I'd recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful oasis while being near some nice Sri Lankan sights/places.

WiFi was a bit spotty in the room at times, but nothing that really mattered for my needs.

I stayed for a few nights in December. I really loved the welcoming touches, got chocolates every day. The bed was super comfy. The views from my room were amazing, same from the pool. One day I had continental breakfast the other Sri Lankan, both were exceptionally good. The staff were the best people. Always smiling and super friendly. I was travelling solo and they made me feel so welcome, always checking on me and chatting. They allowed me to stay past check out as my flight was late in the evening. And they kept me company when I was having coffee waiting for my taxi. Nothing was too much trouble for them. I felt properly looked after and this was superb.

The location was overlooking the breath taking view of Kandy. The staff were extremely well mannered and helpful beyond my expectation. The food, anytime of the day, was heavenly. I highly recommend the local Sri Lankan breakfast (which need to be ordered the night before). It was our first trip with our 8 month old and staying at a place so well integrated into the rich nature of Kandy was remarkable for us as flights of varieties of birds and occasional sightings of squirrels were extremely enjoyable for our little guy. It was an experience we will definitely reminisce for the rest of our lives and thanks to the management and staff for making it all memorable.

Road up to the property, especially the section leading right to the property was slightly bumpy. But that is not an issue with the property itself.

Lovely small hotel perched high abound Kandy. The views are great- they don’t take I the lake or the city, but provide great views over the country side. The staff were very friendly, and we had some of the best food on our trip to Sri Lanka there.. try the prawn curry Sri Lankan breakfast. This hotel is about 10 min from the main part of town with not much for tourists surrounding it - BUT this makes it very quiet and calm. We had a room with a balcony - great view and nice place to chill. The pool quite nice and intimate as you might expect in a smaller property.

This wasn’t a worry for us, but I did note the amount of stairs. Might be an issue for people who don’t cope with stairs that well ( but that is a problem in a lot of Sri Lanka)

The stay in thieva residency was amazing. The infinity pool was very nice to cool down. The whole facility was very clean and the rooms and beds are amazing. We had a suite with a whirlpool bath inside which we enjoyed a lot. The room is very very big and the view from the window is simply amazing! There was a spacious and very nice bathroom! The breakfast was a dream. You can choose from a very big selection like traditional sri lankan breakfast or different kind of eggs with toasts or waffles or cereal, there was always a nice fruit plate with it aswell. The dinner is a la carte and there is a great variety of food. You can eat european or have some nice seafood or currys. We tried a lot of things and everything was delicious. The prawns were amazing and we really recommend the currys and rice. You will get a variety of 17 little bowls which were all so delicious!! The staff at the residency is very friendly and speak english very well. Everyone is so kind and helpful!! Always with a smile, like all people in sri lanka. We really enjoyed our stay here and would come back anytime!! Thank you for hosting us. 🙏🙏🙏🤩🥰

The staff and manager were so nice and went above and beyond in taking care of us. They helped arrange very reasonably-priced transport (the same company we used elsewhere in the country because the cars were modern with a/c and the r best prices we could find. They also checked in with the car drivers to make sure we were appropriately en route. If we were much later than expected, he would call the driver just check in. Manager also available via whatsapp all the time. I didn’t know this when I booked, but they have a sauna that is prepared for you when you want it. Views were unbelievable. Really enjoyed this hotel

The views from the upper rooms and dining/bar area are beautiful. The staff are very lovely and accommodating, and the tuk tuk driver that is linked to the hotel is very responsive and kind. The hotel is 15 minutes tuk tuk ride from the town, which is great as it gives you an escape but means it's easy to get to places. The breakfast was also good.

The rooms are quite dated for the price, and could do with a bit of a redecoration. The rooms on the lowest floor don't have a good view because of telephone wires and posts. We moved to a different room which had a much better view and better/more modern bathroom.

Stunning hillside location overlooking Kandy. The staff are so helpful and kind. We stayed in the penthouse room which was beautiful . The food in the restaurant is reasonably priced and absolutely delicious- I recommend the sea bass. Also try the Sri Lankan breakfast - it's a must. Cannot wait to stay again.

It was perfect for us - you need to get a tuktuk into Kandy as too far to walk so if you are looking for something in the centre just be aware of that. Not a problem for us and very easy to get tuktuk ☺️

Location was fantastic, it overlooked Kandy on a quiet hillside, whilst only being a short drive via tuk tuk into town. Great walks around the hotel that lead into some quieter tea plantations and temples to visit. Staff were very helpful and always keen have a chat and offer tips for exploring the local area. Facilities were wonderful, there's a pool area that overlooks Kandy and you can sit out and watch over the hills and city. The food served in the restaurant was delicious, would recommend trying the Sri Lankan breakfast!

My girlfriend and i stayed here for two nights. From the minute we arrived we felt very welcomed by Mr. Tuan and Mrs. Upeka. The room was very clean, breakfast and dinner were amazing and the view…. just woow. The rainshowerhead bathroom, the jacuzzi in the room with a beautiful view, comfy bed and perfect service made us feel like King and Queen in here. Kandy is a very beautiful city and The Theva Residency is a perfect place to stay. It was my girlfriends birthday. Mr. Tuan did everything from day one that we (specially she) had the best time of her life. Just a little things like chocolate on the bed and birthday cake for dinner made her days special. Anytime, anything we needed was organised be Mr. Tuan straight away without question. We thank you all for such a beautiful hospitality. Vee & Leni
