The Izaak Walton Country House Hotel

The Izaac Walton Hotel is a beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Our rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Meals were all excellent. The only criticism was the fact that there were no bar meals. This was because the chef had left and a new one only took up residence the day we arrived. Most of the staff seemed to be fairly new or arriving whilst we stayed there. Notwithstanding this fact all staff were extremely helpful and very pleasant. The one face we knew from our stay 3 years ago was Sue in the restaurant so it was lovely to have a catch up with her. My family and I do hope that the management can get their staffing problems resolved as it is a beautiful hotel.

Lack of bar meals this time

The location is a perfect country setting, in an outstanding, quiet location with amazing views. Step outside the hotel into fields and some great walks. Dinner was excellent with friendly service. Given that the hotel is several hundred years old, the building has its quirks and some of the room facilities reflected that. But if you like a fourposter bedroom and can accept that filling the bath may be a little slow as a consequence of being in a lovely old building, then this is the place for you.

First of all, a great location. Having lived in and around the area for many years we knew what to expect, but the views are still fantastic, both from our room and from outside the hotel. Dovedale is just a few minutes walk away. The room was a really good size and the bed was very comfortable. Combined with the quiet location, I slept about as well as I ever have. The full English breakfast next morning was very good - the chef knows how to make scrambled eggs properly! The staff were as friendly and helpful as we could have wished for.

Try not to bring too many large suitcases! Getting from reception to your room, there can be a few short flights of stairs along the way. This can’t be helped, of course. It’s an older building and the layout is also part of its charm.

Staff were amazing, very helpful, very accommodating, a real asset

The new owner was talking openly in the bar about named members of staff in a derogatory way. The staff present seemed anxious and unsettled. The main asset of the place was being insulted in public. Shameful

Great location and views. The hotel was excellent, staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Good food and bar. Really comfortable and quiet. Really good value for money

Great food served by our waiter who I really think deserves a special mention. His efficient service, personality and enthusiasm made meal times extra special. Thank you Daniel.

There was a very limited choice of soft drinks.

Breakfast: Very Good. Location: Very Good. Staff: Very good.

Dinner: lacked variation, Menu did not alter throughout stay although food available was very good but did not warrant constant repetition. Lack of information pack on use of room/hotel equipments and services. I understand previous issues of 'COVID" however this is no longer considered an issue enforced by there being no sanitisers located throughout the hotel therefore could you pease resupply a suitable info pack to the rooms?

Breakfast and evening meal were both delicious. Excellent service from the staff at the hotel.

The bedside lamp didn't work.

The room was so comfortable, with a huge bathroom and toiletries that smelt delightful. It was warm for saying it was cold outside. The bed was so snuggly, it was the best night's sleep I have had in years. The location was perfect for a walk along Dovedale and the view from the window was exquisite. The bar had a good range of beer from local breweries.

The breakfast was not very exciting for the price. My husband is vegetarian and he was catered for well but my meat option was quite meagre. (There were other options that I could have chosen.) There was no option for cash at the bar and we paid for another couple's meal on our card.
