Old George Hotel

The hotel is easy to find and in a good position. A lady at the bar sorts out your key & shows you to your room. The rooms are clean and a good size. The bed comfortable. Plenty of towels & toiletries. Clean bathroom & the shower worked well. Standard tea & coffee making facilities. When leaving hand keys in at the bar & go.

This place is as much a pub as it's a hotel. The rooms are above the bar and It's noisy. The two times I have stayed have been Saturday nights, the bar did not close until midnight and and it did not get quiet until 1am. you are not going to get to sleep early. I don't know what it would be like during the week.

Great stay. Clean and cosy, good sized rooms. Great staff, personable and chatty. Love the pub and the chance to have a relaxed drink after work within a n8ce atmosphere. Pub quizzes and band nights take place which are great and also never too noisy in surrounding rooms.

Would love for food to be served later, I've never caught an evening meal due to work, whereas some other local places serve until around 9pm but I would rather be able yo eat where I am staying. I did have to put a spare duvet over the mattress first as it was quite a 'springy' mattress, but this varies from room to room.

The rooms were clean and faultless.

Paid the same for 2 rooms which were a short distance away from each other which was fine but 1 room was right next to the Bingo/disco room and first night the loud music kept me and my son up until after 23:00. Second night was a live band. If you know this room is not able to be as quiet as another a warning and reduction in the price would give you a better rating and happier visitors.

Central location near restaurants, cafés and shops. The room was compact (I was staying in one of the rooms away from the pub), but it had all the basic necessities. Kettle and complimentary coffee sachets provided. Hairdryer available upon request. Ensuite wet-room can get a little messy, but just a little attention will do.

Some extra storage space would surely be appreciated. There is some noise from the pub, no biggie though.

The WiFi didn't work brilliantly & only managed to get it in certain places in the room. There is free parking but I think a little print out on how to get to it would help as its not on the high street & gets very confusing as you get round the back of the building. It wouldn't surprise me if people got tickets because they were in the wrong spaces.

lovely room, comfortable and clean

we had a late night at a music venue, it was Sunday morning and most hotels it’s 11am check out. Admittedly we didn’t check that but even so at 10am on the dot the cleaners were banging on the door. We had to rush around to shower get ready and get out of the room which was fine but they repeatedly banged on the door and my partner spoke to who seemed to be the head cleaner and she was very very rude!

I stayed at rear if the property in purpose built rooms. Very clean and functional with wet room style facilities. All you need for a no frills, central stay.

Definite smell of smoke in the room, bedding , etc. Not a huge issue, but proximity to terrace smoking area may be for some. Some form of cover/curtain for the window set in the door could be beneficial to block the early sun.

It was a nice room.

There was a smell in the ensuite ( I think it was from the drainage.. it wasn’t very Present 🤧) I think it would have helped to have some sort of Air freshener in there. Also they need to get new pillows.and I also had to ask for a hair dryer. Shouldn’t there be one available in every room?.

3 night stay fri-mon. Great location, spoilt for choice of restaurants. Easy booking in, friendly staff. As with family Friday and Saturday until late we spend Sunday night in pub listening to open mic. Friendly locals, shop owners we are not chatty but had many conversations. Long stay car park behind pub and it's free.

The air freshener is over powering and acrid in rooms and bar area, it gets your throat and eyes.

Modern clean room, nice and cosy, was better than expected.

On the booking.com website it states free parking so I assumed they actually had free parking but it turns out they don't have any car parking area and I was a bit shocked to be told to leave my car on the main road which has a 7pm - 8am parking restriction, I was worried about this so had to go looking for somewhere else to park my car, also I wasn't told what to do with the key when I left and the hotel door was locked at 9.45am (bear in mind room vacation is by 10pm)
