Absolutely loved the property, the decor, and the front desk staff. The hotel is beautiful and uniquely decorated. We were made to feel welcome and comfortable immediately thanks to the excellent front desk staff and were pleasantly surprised to find a massive communal free 'mini bar', though pantry might be a more fitting descriptor for the quantity and variety of snack and (NA) drink options. Additionally, the hotel bar was great - cozy and quiet with lots of great drinks and wines on the menu.

The waitstaff in the hotel's restaurant seemed disorganised at best. Service was slow and at breakfast (on two mornings) we were approached by multiple servers to take our order despite already having ordered. Some of the waitstaff additionally seemed put out by having guests at all, a stark difference from the rest of the hotel staff and one that made for a stressful dining experience.

The bed was VERY comfy! We booked a standard double room. The room was not very big and we sort of knew it. However, the design and all the decor made the room felt so cosy and comfortable. Love the record player and the bathroom products in our room. I particularly love the idea that they offered you Yorkshire products as much as possible whilst we are staying at York. Yorkshire tea in our room. Yorkshire crisps and cakes in the pantry. Speaking of the pantry, me and my partner love the idea of a complementray snack pantry!! We always tempted to go there and had a cheeky little ice-cream when we came back after a day out.

Unfortunately there was an emergency light switched on at 5am at one night of your stay and we could not switch it off. We were told it was an electrical issue and the staff was very swift in fixing it. Another thing is the building itself is a listed historical building so you can't expect perfect acoustic in this kind of old building. Our room is located on the first floor and we did hear footsteps from room above. It didn't disturb our sleep too much as both my partner and I are quite a deep sleeper. However it will be something to note for anyone who is a sensitive sleeper.

No1 by GuestHouse exudes grandeur from beginning to end. Walking up the front steps and into the foyer, you are greeted immediately by elegant and quintessentially Georgian decor, which extends to the rooms and refectory. The service provided by each member of the hotel staff, including the cleaners, waiters, and porters was impeccable, ensuring guests are well looked attended to and comfortable. There were several features that set this hotel apart from others, including the spa, set in the vaults below the hotel; my personal favourite special touch, a pantry available to guests at no additional cost. Also available to guests was the use of bicycles and umbrellas. Well within walking distance to York city centre, this hotel provides the perfect accommodation for anyone looking to explore the lovely city streets in comfort and luxury.

My only criticism, and this is really only personal preference, is that the spa did not have washroom facilities. I understand the hotel strives to maintain a high-end appearance, and therefore a gym-style changing room would be entirely out of place, but one or two shower rooms might be beneficial for spa guests. I wasn’t able to check-in until a few hours after my treatment, and so headed into the city with residual massage oil all over my body. Although the masseuse tried her best to minimise left over oils, I would’ve preferred to wash my hair before going out.

Loved the period features or the property. Very nicely decorated and clean throughout with some charming features and lovely bedding etc

We were put in the room on the ground floor which was very noisy due to the windows looking onto the car park and every time a car came back there was big crunching gravel noise and the whole room illuminated. Also had 2 children with me who were very much looking forward to the teepee but was not one in this room. Big mix up at breakfast and it ended up taking over an hour to arrive but it was my birthday so we weren’t too bothered at having a leisurely breakfast. On that note, it is pointless asking if it is someone’s birthday and then not mentioning it at all or bringing a candle or anything. Would just be better not to ask if you are not planning on making it special for them.

I really loved the property itself, beautiful reception, spa area and bar. The room was really lovely, large comfy bed although quite cramped/tight to get to the other side. Loved the touches of the pantry for free snacks and drinks throughout your stay and liked how you could play records if you wanted to.

I’d advised I was celebrating my first wedding anniversary and was informed prior to arrival they would do something special for us, unfortunately this never happened. They had it on record as they congratulated us upon checking in, these little touches really make your stay and this didn’t happen for us. I then saw other guests with complimentary glasses of Prosecco and was informed we weren’t allowed this as we hadn’t booked directly. I’ve stayed at the other hotel in Bath and these little things weren’t overlooked there so that was just a little disappointing especially as the rooms aren’t cheap.

The decor of dreams, everything is considered and curated but it also feels very homely. Cocktail lounge is a lovely space with great menu. Breakfast was delicious although staff could be a little more attentive or offer serve yourself for some components, juice / pastries etc to avoid wait times.

Could hear every nextdoors conversation. Some sound proofing / absorbing elements would be good (Room 18)

Room was spacious and had lots of unique touches to it e.g. record player and a cute doll house with teas and coffees. The hotel itself is stunning and the staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating. There was a complimentary pantry on the floor which was well stocked.

My only criticism and this is just a personal thing I guess, but the breakfast is quite expensive for what it is. The ingredients and quality are top notch but there were no beans on the full english and only one sausage and bacon. So imo i'd not market it as a full english but as a cooked breakfast.

Beautifully designed hotel with quirky touches and a lot of attention to detail. I loved the decor and overall vibe. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. I liked the little touches in the room to add to the comfort - such as the tea & coffee etc housed in a cupboard designed like a doll's house. Also the retro wireless and vinyl record player with selection of records. The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices and the ambience of the bar was very nice. The location is lovely - on a tree lined street just outside the city walls. It's a ten minute walk to York Minster.

Nothing!

The hotel was decorated beautifully, I was in love with all the little and big details. From a Roberts radio playing smooth jazz in the room as you check in, to the dolls house with a nespresso machine. There’s a Crosley record player which is a fun novelty. Even the hallway is stunning with gorgeous instruments on display, leather chairs, stone floors at the bottom with pottery on show in the centre of the lobby. The downstairs bar was stunning (albeit too expensive for even a drink.) The location was perfect, just a short walk down the road for York minster. The car park behind the hotel was handy and felt secure - it was one less thing to think about. The staff were friendly and our dog got a lovely welcome all the time, our dog was especially excited with the lovely bag of venison treats and dog bowls she found in our room. Our favourite was the pantry where you could find ice cream, soft drinks, popcorn etc! It made us feel really at home. You could borrow Brompton bikes it said but we didn’t get to use as we had the dog… all in all amazing attention to detail, quirkiness, and one of a kind stay.

Wifi in our room didn’t work, we did report which they tried to fix but it still wasn’t working properly throughout the trip. Pet fee of £25 per day - was NOT expecting that when it came to check out. Apparently this is on their website but it wasn’t something I came across on booking.com - pet owners beware!!

Lovely public areas, very sweet staff and a good restaurant. Attractive rooms, we had a very nice bathroom too. The bed was very comfortable and lots of extra touches. We enjoyed it a lot. And Noelia (?) in the spa gave a great back massage. Very relaxing stay and just a 10 minutes walk to the city walls.

There is little not to like - the room was too snug for us so we'd get a larger room next time but the sizes of the rooms are clearly stated. We found the service in the restaurant on the Monday night to be less attentive than Sunday. Perhaps that's how things are after busy weekends.
