Sunset Motel of St. Ignace

You guys! This hotel was the cleanest place I've ever stayed. I was traveling with my mom who cleans houses for a living so she can be picky and she just kept walking around "I can't believe how clean this place is!". Unlike your traditional hotel rooms, our two queen room was actually two rooms, one bed was in the livingroom/kitchen area, the other bed was in a separate room. It was super cute. Staff was extremely welcoming, seems to be run by an adorable family. The grounds were impeccable. The flowers all over were absolutely beautiful.

If you are a light sleeper, you can hear the highway that goes by. This did not bother me or my mom but could bother some people. The bathroom is quite small, this again was fine for my mom and I, but someone of a larger size could struggle with the smaller amenities.

This motel was awesome. I was impressed with the room and the grounds were more than amazing. It reminded me of Butchart Gardens in BC Canada. The floral arrangement and plants were really impressive. The staff were equally as a amazing. The family who runs this place have gone above and beyond and truly deserve this review. If you're looking for a great place to stay in St Ignace, look no further. There might be larger and more grand rooms than this older hotel has because of it's age, but I highly doubt there's anyplace that puts more care and energy into making their hotel/motel the best possible for their guests. I've added a few pictures but the photos don't even come close to how bright and colorful everything was. The sun was already settling and there wasn't much light when they were taken.

It's slightly off the beaten path, but that could be a bonus for anyone looking for a quiet place to get some rest. I'm not saying it's secluded, it's just off the main highway, so maybe I shouldn't even mention it, but if you're looking to walk to town, it's probably not the place for you. There is a nice bar/restaurant next door. Oh, while I'm mentioning that, their food is great and the portions are really big.

Exceptional greeting call upon booking the room to make sure we knew how to get there, if we needed anything else before arrival or in our room. Host was very pleasant when we arrived to make sure we had ice and offered area knowledge on where to eat for dinner and breakfast in the am. Very friendly upon checkout when replenishing ice for the cooler. Grounds were beautiful with flowers and games that could be played.

Traffic on 2 is bad, but just turn on air conditioning and go to sleep! :) Nothing to complain about at all.

Clean, safe, beautiful gardens with hummingbirds, and the HORN family are excellent managers who care.

nothing not to like

I was very impressed with the room. There must have been some remodeling, the floor was beautiful, the room was larger than most hotels, there was a small couch at the foot of the bed that allowed my hubby and I to sit together and watch tv, which was nice as you usually have to sit on the bed to do that. They had all the amenities including a Keurig in the room and a couple of tv trays so you could sit your drinks on them. That bathroom and clean and well maintained with a very good shower. Wifi could have been upped a bit but it worked while we were there. The bed was very comfortable. An excellent place to stay, comfortable and priced very reasonably. Beautiful flower garden all around.

Just the wifi could have been a bit stronger.

Well maintained rooms and grounds. The flowers were beautiful and looked just like the online pictures. Easy access point for a short trip into St. Ignace and points beyond. The proprietor gave us suggestions for points of interest and dining options. Overall a great experience!

It’s next to a four lane highway so there is some road noise. We kept our air conditioner running throughout the night to drown out the noise. Not a dealbreaker for us.

Adorable little family owned roadside motel. Our room was super clean, the bed was very comfortable and it was quiet. It was also very nice that there were plenty of USB ports and a desk to work at. The bathroom was pretty tiny and the shower was a bit tight, but had everything we needed and we were very happy with our stay. Additionally, the owner was super friendly and helpful. We’d definitely stay here again.

It is located on a busy road, which is a little scary to pull in and out of.

Very friendly manager called me hours before to verify arrival. Rooms were exceptionally clean, albeit small. Grounds were beautiful with many, many flowers all around. Had fridge and microwave, with small containers/utensals to use (didn't expect at this price point). Everything was exceptionally clean. Plenty of sockets available near the bed.

Unavoidable, but the rooms are on the small side. The manager did a great job of making he most of what he had to work with.

From the minute we arrived we were impressed. The property makes a great first impression with the beautiful flower pots everywhere and the well manicured landscape. The room was so clean and modern with all the conveniences of more upscale hotel suites. Not what you expect from a small roadside motel. Next time thru we will definitely stay here again for a more extended stay instead of a stop over.

Hmm. Honestly there isn’t much to “not like”about Sunset Motel.

Cute little motel. The gal at the front desk was very knowledgable and outgoing. It was clean and tidy. We used it for one night prior to heading to Mackinac Island. It was under 10 minutes from the motel to the parking at the loading dock. Would definitely recommend with confidence if needing a place to rest your head. It's also true what people have commented about the flowers. They're beautiful! 🌼 🌸 🌻
