Being underground

We found the cost of $20 each for a continental breakfast rather expensive. The first morning the girl on duty made coffees for us . 2. Cappuccinos and 1 mocha. The next morning we were informed that these were extra, only instant coffee or tea were included. Also when we booked we were told that they would pick us up at the airport and drop us back there. Unfortunately the car had a flat battery, but according to the airport shuttle guy it had been out of action for quite a while.

It was nice experience staying underground. It was reasonably price, clean and the staff were pleasant.

We wanted a coffee in the morning, keeping in mind they advertise they do serve breakfast here. We were told there was no coffee because they were too busy getting ready for another occasion which happened to be a year 6 kids party. We felt as a paying customer they should take the time to make us coffee anyway or at least let us know in advance, not while we were waiting for service.

So much history and the available facilities were fantastic! Loved that there were a vast selection of DVD’s to be able to watch as a family before bed to settle down to. Great coffee with excellent conversation was a bonus I was not expecting! Thanks for welcoming our tribe and giving us a wonderful Coober Pedy experience.

I have no commentary for this section as I received the service that I expected and a little more for the money and location given proximity to a large city.

The staff were great. We got picked up and dropped off at the airport. We had a bit of a tour around the town by Mel on our way back to the Inn. Mel is full of local knowledge. If you stay here you get discounts at certain tourist spots. The stay is very unique. The room obviously has no windows and it is totally black! You can even nap after lunch. The linen is great! And the bed was comfortable. The room looked just like the photo.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Comfort Inn. We stayed in the two-bed apartment which was spacious and gave the real underground experience. One of our most memorable stays during a month of travelling around Australia. Good location close to the town centre and the Greyhound coach station. A special mention to the amazing Melissa who not only stored our luggage for us on the day of checkout but got us out of a tricky spot by giving us a lift to the coach stop with our suitcases when one of them broke, saving us a tough walk carrying a 20kg case. This may well be the best underground place to stay in Coober Pedy. The location is good just out of the town centre and right next to an excellent mining museum. The accommodation is in an authentic old opal mine. The broad public corridors are charming and well lit, with lots of seating areas, and the room was very large with all the facilities we expect in outback hotels. Sections of the hotel intersect old mine workings and the place is a pretty good example itself of a former mine converted to accommodation. There are little mining tableaus in places so it is a genuinely interesting place. It just felt good. Tip - have an alarm clock or phone available since there is no natural light to wake you up.

The bed was a bit soft for my back.

I like the location and its style, the interior is basically a museum, you can work around to explore the opal mine, even there is the old time mine museum next door. The hotel is quiet and the staff are friendly. It is very close to the Big Wrench where you can have food and enjoy the 360 degree documentary of Coober Pedy.

The fan was always on, even though I know there is a good reason for that.

We enjoyed the facilities immensely! Staff were wonderful and friendly, and it was a great experience all around. 😊

Air movement throughout the complex was a bit challenging given the structure - maybe a larger fan or cooler would be better long-term. Wifi was very hit and miss in our room but this wasn’t the main focus of our stay so it really didn’t matter.

Staying in an underground location is a unique experience. Loved the way they've made the most of the natural features as it adjoins the old mine. The serve yourself breakfast had plenty of choice of cereals and toasts. Late check-in process was very smooth.

The breakfast would be improved immensely by having filter coffee available rather than instant.

This was a great unique motel, and was a joy to explore. The receptionist was so very helpful and informative and filled us in on underground living and directed us to the best opal places. Room was comfortable and clean. Would stay again.

It was a bit stuffy as we were not down underground far enough for the really lovely coolness.
