Things to do in Barcelona at night
Updated August 2, 2023This is a guest post by only-apartments – Barcelona is one of the top destinations for travellers from all over the world, thanks to the bustling Ramblas, the Gaudi works and the beach. But when the sun goes down, what are the options? Spanish people are known for being night owls. They have dinner late and they go to sleep even later, so at night there are still plenty of things to do. Below are just a few things you can do in Barcelona after dark.
Visit the Magic Fountain
Still in possession of its original plumbing, the Magic Fountain works its wonders with 3.600 pieces of tubing and more than 4.500 light bulbs. Located near the Plaça Espanya, on the evenings, the multiple founts swell and dance to the rhythm of the music while showing off a kaleidoscope of colours. Timetable changes depending on the time of the year.
The Nou Camp Stadium, holding almost 100.000 people, is considered one of the finest football stadiums in the world, apart from being home to the best football club in the world: FC Barcelona. You can usually buy tickets for the Barça home league games although Champions League games are often sold out in advance.
Eat in a nice restaurant
The city is popular for its amazing food and chefs so you can’t leave Barcelona without trying some of its delicacies. Around Passeig the Gràcia you have “Madrid-Barcelona” and l’”Hostal de la Rita”, great places with great food, good service and reasonable prices. If you like seafood you can’t leave without going to Galician restaurant “Botafumeiro”, in Gràcia district, or “Cal Pep”, in the Born district, which is popular for its trifàsic, a mélange of fried whitebait, squid rings and shrimps, and exquisite little tallarines (wedge clams).
Attend a concert
There are lots of music festivals in Barcelona, like the popular Primavera Sound Festival or the Festival Internacional de Jazz de Barcelona. But if you like concerts and live music you have many other options, as visiting the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona’s Opera House. Located in the popular La Rambla, the Liceu hosts some of the finest operas in the world. Another option is l’Auditori, a 2.400 venue offering not only classical music but also jazz and world music. In some weeks it will host Norah Jones’s concert. But you can’t miss either the Palau de la Música Catalana, known for its Modernist architecture and its musical activity.
Party all night long
Barcelona has a huge variety of bars, pubs and clubs, from tiny and cozy bars to amazing nightclubs. You can even go out every night of the week if you´re willing to. There are special theme nights on many places, like the “We love Mondays” at Opium Mar, or the “Nasty Mondays” and the “Crappy Tuesdays” at Apollo. Fridays and Saturdays are dominated by a cosmopolitan mix of tourists, stag & hen parties and locals. Most of the action is centred around La Rambla, but there are some other places very popular amongst locals, as Razzmatazz. This is a very large and popular nightclub with a choice of 5 different music types: Rock, Techno, Pop, R&B, Disco and much more. A must if you are in the city!
With such an amount of activities to do day & night you better have some good Barcelona apartments, so you can rest as much as you can while you are not partying!
