Camping: An Inexpensive Vacation

If you are looking to get lost in the wilderness or just a quick break from reality, camping will be right up your alley. This cheap, fairly easy vacation will be a great getaway that with a few coolers of adult beverages will lead to some heartfelt bonding with nothing but the trees listening.

The first step to planning a camping trip is to either reserve a campground at a nearby National Park or camp resort. If you are really looking to be one with nature, you can get a compass and head into the heart of the woods to do your camping, but I’d recommend a National Park or registered campgrounds.

The next step is to pack a first aid kit. The first aid kit can be bought at any superstore, such as Wal-Mart or Target. The first aid kit should contain band aids, bug spray, pain-killers, anti-itch cream, a whistle, tweezers, tissues, and any personal medicine.

You need to make sure you are able to set up your tent. You should do at least one test run before you leave to make sure you can put up your tent with ease. Some people bring foam to put under their sleeping bags to make sleeping a little bit more comfortable, but foam isn’t a necessity. When packing the tent make sure to pack a tarp as well, just in case it rains.

When packing your clothes, make sure to pack at least two bathing suits, an outfit per day, two extra outfits and a heavy jacket or sweatshirt (just because you are camping in the summer doesn’t mean that it isn’t going to get cold when the sun is down).

Camping is a great time, but does tend to get a little tedious, so before you venture out with the bears make sure you plan out some activities that could be fun during your trip. When I used to go camping as a kid, my family would always take a hike on the Delaware-New York state line and go to Bish Bash Falls. The water was often too cold to swim in, but excursions like these will keep everyone busy and should prevent a lot of restlessness.
