The location is great, a short walk from the main street which allows you to sleep well. The staff were fantastic and always helpful Having the laundry included in our stay, as we spent 5 night was handy and saved us time as we arrive tired from tours' hence, we really appreciate it The lemonade with mint was delicious and good food at the restaurant

The rooms did not have airconditioning. We know it is rare around San Pedro, but as we stayed there during summer, maybe because of the materials used to build the hotel, it was extremely hot inside our room, so we could not sleep well. Outside, the temperature was quite pleasant. The hotel provided a fan, but it was not enough. We ended up moving to a different room, that did not have a big wall in front of it and it was better. We would return to the hotel if they put aircon in the rooms.

A lovely retreat, less than 5min walk to Caracoles, but enough removed from town that you feel immersed in nature. My favourite thing is they seem to really think about blending in and preserving nature, I loved the sustainable features. The lovely seating area just outside was perfect to chill out after returning from day trips. Staff are incredibly kind and always ready to help - I had an issue with a card retained by an ATM and they were more than happy to help me sort it out, for which I was very grateful. Comfortable rooms, excellent service, smiley staff that seem to be valued and well-treated by management, will definitely recommend to friends and family going to San Pedro.

The water in the pool is very cold, which was fine considering it’s winter and the nights are very cold, but I wonder if solar-powered heating just to break the ice would go down well? :)

Everything was perfect, from the staff to the room and facilites! Beds are very comfortable and the shower is amazing. Breakfast is super complete and delicious. The hotel provides towels so we can get them to the tours with us and also provides water to refill water bottles and that’s a difference from others.

The room could have air conditioners because it gets too hot during the day and it takes time for the heat to fade away. Also, the distance from the city centre is a bit big and it can be a problem when you’re too tired from some tours, for example.

The services at the hotel were excellent. Staff was extremely helpful and very welcoming. The restaurant is lovely with the highest quality food that we found and very reasonable. Bravo to the Chef - nicely presented and very nicely flavoured selection. And should you have any food allergies or preferences they will accommodate with a smile. The shaded area under the trees near the small pool is super relaxing.

Not so much about not liking - but rooms could be slightly more modern - there is a new section which is very beautiful and has big windows views on the garden. Ours had no view - but for the time you spend in yr room it was fine. PS this is for relaxing - no TVs but excellent WIFI

This review is for “El Refugio- La Casa de Don Tomás”. Keep in mind that this is a different hotel than La Casa de Don Tomás, located around 200m away on the same street (Tocopilla 19 for El Refugio vs Tocopilla 11 for the old hotel), although in Booking.com it seems it’s the same hotel. El Refugio is rather new hotel. We stayed at Superior Double rooms. In the room everything was new and of good quality. Despite the winter, at noon it’s warm and the small terrace looking at the Andes was a beauty. As far as regards the stuff, they were kind and helpful, with the exception I shall mention below. No problem at all with the room cleanliness and the breakfast and dinner service (the later comes with an additional home). The Superior Double rooms are not really spacious.

At this hotel level, the fact that there was no minibar or small fridge in the room is not acceptable. Even more important, when an issue occurred with our transfer to the airport, I would expect the reception stuff to be able to make direct contacts with external providers and find us a solution and not refer as to a provider’s website. After I managed to arrange the transfer the reception stuff was helpful, talking over the phone with the driver.

The welcome at the hotel was lovely, check in was so smooth and a member of staff escorted you to the room. The room was large and spacious, and the leave a lovely bottle of sparkling wine in the room. The facilities, breakfast and restaurant was excellent. I had two early mornings and hotel prepares a very good take away breakfast. I had a few mishaps with bookings (independent of the hotel) and the staff were super helpful in helping resolve. There are lots of places to relax and rest as well. Downtown is a 5 min walk from the hotel, and as a solo traveller I felt safe walking back late at night. Thanks for a great stay.

We stayed at El Refugio part. It has everything you need, they have swimming towels that can be brang to the tours, a laundry service (it's free after a more than 5 nights reservation), restaurant and even meal box to go when you have really early tours. The beds were really big and comfy. They have a sustainability policy so they don't have AC but a fan than works very well. The pool was very clean Also, the hotel is really beautiful. It has dessert plants everywhere and a little terrace were you can rest. Something I really loved was the little garden that you can see from a big window from the shower. Just a little detail is that it has a door (it seems to be sealed) with a big space at the bottom. I think it might be narrowed just for the tranquility of the guests. The reception girls were very kind and helpful. They always answered our questions very well. Overall, I recommend this hotel.

Not sure if I didn't read well but I knew that the hotel has 2 sections until I made my online check-in. I've already told my tour guides my hotel was la casa de Don Tomás by then. It would be nice to know it has two sections in advanced and where you are going to stay.

We stayed in „El Refugio“ of La Casa de Don Tomás. The service was excellent. Coffee and tea were offered the whole day for free. A water dispenser with filtered level was available 24/7 for feee as well. The rooms as well as the common areas are modern facilities. The staff is attentive. Each of our wishes was fulfilled in the best possible way. The location is close to the city but far enough away to have a calm and quiet surrounding. The breakfast buffet was delicious, diverse and fresh. Special wishes are fulfilled such as an omelet. In total, everything we needed was there and we are very happy.

Just a small note on high level: The packed breakfast (which can be ordered for the day in case you can’t join the breakfast) could be more customisable. For us it consisted of a sandwich, some fruits, a cereal bar and a bottle of water. Since fruits are difficult to eat „to-go“, a second sandwich would have been more convenient.

Absolutely wonderful time here at Hotel La Casa de Don Tomás. We booked one of the rooms at the El Refugio park of the hotel which had it's own separate reception, restaurant and pool and was very peaceful. The town centre of San Pedro de Atacama is less than an 8 minute walk from the hotel. Guest rooms are very well appointed and clean (lovely use of natural light throughout). While having no air conditioning may seem an issue for a hotel in the middle of the desert the rooms remained cool throughout the day and there is a fan provided (combined with keeping insect screen protected window during the night ensured we never felt hot and bothered). Breakfast has a wide variety of options and if you stay for over 6 days they even do one round of laundry for free! All in all a fantastic place to stay if you want true peace and quiet in this part of the world whilst being very close to the action for tours and excursions. Would recommend highly. Staff are also all wonderful!

Very minor thing as staff were exceptionally nice to us throughout our stay, but in the outdoor areas at El Refugio the bar staff could do with doing more checks of pool and outside seating area for empty glasses and litter as this sometimes built up if guests didn't clean up after themselves. Also the terrace is such a wonderful feature of this resort but has such low lighting in the evening it is hard to see up there (would be great to add some battery operated LED fairy lights to just add a bit more light and ambiance). They could potentially even make more use of the terrace as an outdoor dining option for dinner.

Good location - a short walk from town. Very quiet. A large room with a king sized bed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included and was very good. Dinner was available every evening and was of a high quality and cheaper than the best restaurant in town. No coffee or tea making facilities in the room but they were available 24/7 in the foyer with seating area. Fresh water to refill your water bottles always available 24/7. Family of cats live on site. Adorable!
