I found I had a day in between Gites rentals where I needed a hotel and booked here not knowing what to expect. What I found was a magical location of this cave hotel built into the side of a mountain. Absolutely gorgeous location in the country, but a short drive to the nearest village. Everyone was very pleasant and friendly. The room was well appointed and comfortable. The soundproof shades gave me one of the best nights of rest that I had my whole trip. I didn’t get a cave room this time, but would love to return another time and try one of those.Troglododo you are wonderful!

I didn’t like having to leave. I will be back.

All the staff were very happy and approachable. Our room was amazing. We were in the suite, dug out of the rocks:it was very large and a real one off! We were able to use the swimming pool and time of night or day which was so great for when we came back from town at night and before breakfast. It was a pleasant 20 minute walk into town.

It is obvious there are many improvements and extra rooms being built causing some of the grounds to appear close to a building site, but all the finished areas are lovely. We were Azay on a Monday and in the evening it was dead. We couldn’t find any restaurant open!

The hotel is small and intimate, set on a lovely hillside overlooking a valley and trees , just a 15 min walk to the lovely town of Azay Le Rideaux , down quiet roads . Our room had its private patio area with a little rattan sofa and a table, chairs and parasol for lunches etc . Our room was large with a separate dressing area and large bathroom too - our room was not a cave room and had a rustic French theme to it . Thete was also a fridge , kettle, coffee and tea in the room too .The air conditioning unit did a really good job of keeping the room cool also. There was also metal shutters to draw down to keep the heat out on two of the windows which was really useful . There was also a flat screen TV . The pool is a delightful find , just down some steps with plenty of sunbeds with really thick , comfortable seat pads which were great . There were a number of parasols too . There are stone steps to walk down into the pool which are helpful . Breakfast was in one of the cave rooms which was really unusual and interetesting with a really array of food - eggs to boil , cold meat platters , cheese platters , French bread , toast , pancakes , lots of fruit , juices , freshly made coffee and tea available as well as a fridge of cold water .There were also various cakes available and different jams too - so lots of choice all in all . Alain the proprietor speaks English as well as French and was very helpful . There is onsite parking and a lift down to the main hotel area too . The location was quiet and peaceful, with bird song and the odd car down below which was a lovely rest after the busy days of travelling about to Châteauxs and markets .

Nothing - I would definitely go back . There isn’t a bar onsite but wine by the bottle is for sale - all rooms seem to have their own patio and table area . Apparently food is available in the room if you want it but we ate out most of the time anyway .

This is a charming place to stay. It is run by a lovely helpful friendly family. They were really nice people. Staying in a cave was great fun. Very comfortable. The swimming pool was a delight - great temperature and good to be able to relax after a day out. It was a very relaxing place to stay. We liked sitting outside our cave having an evening drink. It was easy to walk to the Chateau. Highly recommended.

A nice comfortable cave dwelling that made our experience interesting and enjoyable. Seating outside each room is good and the lift is essential. A very nice stay, thank you.

The meet & greet wasn't very comprehensive. The list of restaurants is a good idea, but most are closed on certain week days and this would be useful.

Very friendly and helpful couple running the hotel. Cool temperature room in the hot weather due to being built into the caves. Unique and quirky room, also had a handy fridge. There is no evening restaurant onsite. Breakfast was great with homemade jams and cakes. The swimming pool was perfect for a dip after a day of cycling. Lots of parking, good WiFi, a short walk out of town, straight on the local cycle routes. Would love to return.

It was perfect for us, nothing to improve.

A fantastic little hotel with a great atmosphere. The rooms were large and well furnished. The owners were friendly and helpful. The meal platter was good, meaning we didn't need to leave the hotel after the long drive from Calais.

Unfortunately the disabled rom that we had booked, had inadvertently been given to someone else. They kindly agreed to swop, so that we were able to gain the step free access for my wheelchair.

The owners were very welcoming and helpful and we really enjoyed staying in such a unique and quirky cave. The history of the building was really interesting and the surrounding countryside was really pretty and great for dog walking. The room had been modernized to a high standard whilst maintaining the charm of the original cave, and it was surprisingly warm and cosy. There was loads of space and storage, even for a family of 5 and two big dogs! Great location for the chateaux of Azay le Rideau and Langeais. There were several excellent restaurants in the village a couple of kms away.

Just a small thing - we prefer showers to baths and although the bath room was modern, clean and spacious, it would have been nice if there had been a stand alone shower or a shower fixed up over the bath (there was a shower attached to the bath but it was just a handheld one).
