I was told I'd be experiencing a "clear, beef broth" with "lots of things" in it. Presented to me is a dish, not unlike a grandmothers gravy boat, with a swarthy liquid topped in what I presumed to be croutons. Upon first sip, My spoon slapped me silly, blew my socks off, head blew steam outta the top, back hit the chair, went "Weeeeeweeeeey". It wasn't until I regained my senses where I realized twas not croutons, twasn't bread-kind in any which manner, NO, cauliflower, of the floating variety. So enraptured by the flotilla of vegetable, I thus far had overlooked the depths of my soupy scenario. Hence properly occurently, I dug in deep, mind swirling much like my soupy mass, at what could lie below the flowerly outcrop. Meat, to be sure, not overly cooked like the Czech variety, but as if placed INTO boiling beef broth precisely when expected, not a minute early, not a wince late. Amongst the protein ebbery, were blocks, teeeeeny tiny blocks that I supposed to be of the potato variety but could have been cheese? or tofu? But certainly not in my Westphalian soup, No, a mystery, to this day, to be discovered another time.

This charming, family run restaurant and guest house was a perfect place to stop on our drive between Berlin and the UK. It’s one of those rare places where the owners take true pride and passion in their work. The food was exceptional and despite their being limited vegetarian options on the menu the chef was happy to improvise and cooked us a delicious Italian pasta dish. Breakfast was also of a much higher standard than usual. Fresh fruits served with a delicious homemade whipped cream with a hint of vanilla, fresh, warm brotchen, cheeses and fresh coffee. The rooms, with their traditional classic decor, were quiet and comfortable and the cleanliness and hygiene standards were excellent.

Nothing to do with the hotel, more booking .com I had booked a room for me and my 5y old son. Clear search criteria on booking. But at arrival it seemed that a single room was booked with 1 bed. So I had to rebook to a double room. If 2 persons are entered on your search criteria the result should not be a single room.

Rooms a little dated but still charming. This place is primarily a fine dining restaurant, famous in the area (and very busy)....but obviously has a few rooms (we had 5...but there maybe more). We didn't have breakfast and not sure if they actually do it, but there is a fantastic bakery in the town. The town itself (Mesum) is absolutely lovely - pretty with very friendly people (special mention for the wonderful pub in the centre).

We have stayed here several times an have always received a warm welcome from staff and the family who own the hotel. Excellent food served in the restaurant cooked by an excellent chef who is the son of the owner, as I said a family business which has been so for several generations. If you stay here ask about the history.

We stayed with 5 persons in 3 rooms. It was better than expected. I do think that the pictures in the Booking-map are very old. The owners are very helpfull and they can cook ! ! We had the "suprise menu", and it was an excellent choice. Parking under your window.

The sunday morning church-bells at 7h50 am ! , but when the window closed it was ok !

Very nice old-fashioned traditional hotel and restaurant. Rooms are very clean and nicely furnished and decorated. Very delicious local cousine in the restaurant. Very pleasant hosts, running this place as a family business for many years. Free parking included.

We had a lovely stay en route to get the ferry at Ijmuiden. It was the end of our holiday and the first hotel to offer a bath in the en suite (marble!) bathroom - so relaxing! Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and the waiter very engaging to talk to. Lovely to spend time in an independently owned hotel, where you could see evidence all around you of the generations who had been before and the various family items and photos on display.

The location was good for us as it was halfway to our destination. The evening meal was delicious as was the breakfast. The owners were very kind and helpful. The rooms were a good size with a good bathroom and the beds were very comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean. It has been in the same family for generations and it showed, the attention to detail was second to none.

The breakfast was very good, served at the table. One of us had requested gluten free bread and I got 3 freshly baked rolls. We had an excellent dinner the night before, cooked by the owner.
