The location of the hotel was superb. It’s only short distance to Vik and the black sand beach. The central kitchen was spacious and equipped with every equipment I required for cooking. However, it was very crowded in the evening. The room was good, but it took me some time to lock the door due to unfamiliar locking method. One major drawback was that the heater in the room could not provide enough power to heat the entire room, including the bathroom, so it’s very cold during showering, especially when the ventilation fas was turned on. The sink was also too small, compared to the bathroom size.

Very pleaaant place to stay - individual rooms has a designer feel, clearly a lot of money spent on fixtures and fittings. Black beach suite rooms with own bathroom were v comfortable and had kettles and coffee machine, and fantastic views. Bar in the main building was welcoming and had a nice feel to chill for a bit.
No restaurant on site and miles from anywhere which means you need to drive to dinner, eat reheated fast food at the bar or self cater (which is inconvenient if you’re not in the main hostel building). Rooms in the main building (shared bathroom) are noisy. Rooms with en suite bathroom could really do with some glasses to drink water etc from.

I had a fantastic stay at The Barn. The hotel is perfectly located, just a short drive to 1 of the attraction- Skogafoss, which made sightseeing incredibly convenient. The room was warm and cozy, which was exactly what I needed given Iceland's chilly weather. The heating system worked wonderfully, ensuring a comfortable retreat after a day of exploring. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the hotel facilities were great, with everything I needed for a relaxing stay. I especially appreciated the spacious, clean room and the overall comfort of the hotel. Highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Iceland – it’s the perfect mix of location, comfort, and warmth!

Best hostel I've stayed at! the beds were double beds instead of twins which was great for a couple. there was a full kitchen for guests which had lots of tools and utensils. there were a lot of showers and bathrooms so it wasn't a fight to get one as there were a lot of people staying there. There was bar that was open until midnight that served finger food. the hostel also supplied towels. It was a great location right near the black sand beach and enough outside of the Vìk that we were able to see the northern lights!
the hostel uses strong scented cleaning products and does a lot of cleaning, so it was very strong for someone sensitive to fragrances.

It is very nicely decorated, really new. Had almost all the comforts of home (except I was in a shared room) freshly made croissants and baked goods in the morning. Flavoured water, and the staff found my partner an extension cord for his CPAP. Beds were comfie, warm, gave us an extra pillow even.
Well, we did get a share room so we can't do anything about people talking or being loud (it is what it is). I do wish there were more washrooms as during rush hour it is hard to get showered and get to bed or get out the door. The rooms are cleaned or pumped with some strong perfume.? My partner and I found it hard to sleep through it. The share rooms are very tight for space though, it is 8 people jammed into a room. With baggage and whatnot, it is very very cramped.

The Barn is a beautiful hostel and the perfect place/ base for your visit to Southern Iceland. We stayed for three nights with our 3-year-old son, which was an adventure at itself, but definitely made easier by our stay here. The hostel environment, while still having the opportunity to book a private room is fantastic. Our son enjoyed the company of several other kids, which made it a bit more relaxed for us. We had a nice stay at the Barn, a beautifully decorated hostel with a very warm atmosphere.
The rooms are not super spacious, but not too small either. A bit bigger would be interesting, especially for families.

Kitchen had everything you need including microwave, proper oven, toaster, plates, cooking utensils (they were out of spoons but if you go at the bar and ask them, they will give it to you). During my stay, unfortunately there was an oriental family of 6 adults who literally was making some elaborate meal (2 kind of salads, cut fresh fruits, 2 kind of curries, fired rice, and 2 non veg dishes) and had the kitchen pretty much occupied for 1.5 hours with their stuff everywhere. Dining area is small compared to number of guests but you can take your food downstairs and eat there on the table. There was space available in 4 small fridges for us to store food. Plenty of shower stalls and toilets, clean beds. Location was great.
We were unable to pay in cash. We wanted to use (islandic currency or USD) - and they could only charge us in Euro on credit card. They should have more hooks in the shower stalls so people can hang things. There is enough room in the shower stall, so please have a chair or table to put stuff there also. And if I recall correctly, there is no freezer in the kitchen. And this hostel vibe was not "mingle with other guests', if that matters to you. Almost everyone was doing their own things even in the kitchen / dining area.

Really lovely hostel and worthy of the good reviews. Double bunks were great, each bunk had its own light, plug socket and curtain, plus plenty of space for belongings with coat hooks and shoe racks by each room. Plenty of clean, well-presented bathroom facilities. Kitchen was really well stocked with two ovens, hobs, sinks, tons of utensils and a few small fridges. We didn't use the other common areas but they looked lovely with a bar and some spots to chill. It's not cheap, even for the dorm rooms, but we had a great stay with free parking and the location was great too.
Staff weren't very friendly

We booked a private room and were a little worried staying at a place labelled as a hostel. It turned out to be one of the nicest places we stayed on the entire trip. The private rooms are little quadplexes spread around the property. Everything looks brand new, very clean, and well cared for. The beds were some of the most comfortable on our trip. The main lobby has a cute bar with board games, and Black Sands beach is a five minute drive down the road.
It may be worthwhile to bring meals with you since there are no restaurants on site (like every place we stayed in Iceland, the rooms have a kettle but no microwave). The nearest restaurant is at Black Sands beach but closes at 8pm- otherwise it is a 15 minute drive into Vik.

We really enjoyed our experience at The Barn. It is remote enough and just overlooking the water to see Northern Lights but close enough to Vik for amenities/grocery store etc. The room was spacious and comfortable. We appreciated the blinds and the how quiet the property was. We liked having a mini fridge and kettle. It was nice to be able to go into the main building for a drink too.
The shower got water everywhere despite our best efforts. A space heater was provided which helped immensely but the room was quite chilly without it.
