Super affordable - location was amazingly convenient and there was breakfast + lots of amenities (shaver, brush, nightwear etc.) Breakfast had a decent spread and it was tasty enough for the price paid. Toilets were clean and of the typical Japan size. Housekeeping made the bed everyday as well. Staff could speak some English so props to them!

Might be a tad small if you are bringing many large luggages. I did not bring any luggage except duffel bags so it was okay. Room size is typical of Japan's room sizes though. You get what you paid for.

Comfort Hotel Yamagata is the ideal location for staying in Yamagata city and exploring the area around - just a short walk from the station and the bus depot. We used it as a base for visiting Yamdera and Mount Zao. There are plenty of restaurants nearby too. It was a very short stay this time (just one night!) so no chance to explore the city itself (which I've done many times on previous trips anyway), but you are close to bus stops to take you into the city centre if you want to head that way. We used the coin op laundry for the first time and it was very efficient. The rooms are the typical smaller Japanese hotel rooms, but absolutely fine for what we needed. Very good value for money. The bus from Sakata dropped us just over the road, and there are frequent buses to other cities e.g. Sendai from the nearby bus station, plus of course Yamagata station is one of the stops for the Tsubasa shinkansen. Very easy access from Tokyo, Sendai etc. by rail.

Nothing. This is our second stay at this hotel and we will stay here again on our next visit to Yamagata.

Had everything we wanted and needed - helpful and friendly staff, washing machine use, convenient to station for day trips, walking distance to some sights in Yamagata city, comfortable bed, espresso coffee machine used at breakfast and in the afternoon.

We’ve been here 3 times and know it’s small (13m2) so that might for some people be an issue. Lift is occasionally slow if it’s a busy time eg breakfast, so allow more time if you need.

It's well equipped with the things that you need. Of course not readily available in the room but at request you may even borrow a bicycle! The staff are also friendly and super helpful, people of Yamagata are angelic.

At first I thought of the pillows being thin, but you can request extra pillows so none.

Very new facilities and hotel, very clean, great location, it is very close to the train station. I would stay here again. Food was okay at breakfast.

My luggage took few days to reach Tokyo. Don't use luggage service from this location unless you have time to spare. Also Yamagata is not a great place to go if you don't have a Japanese speaking person with you.

3 mins walk from Yamagata train station. Take the pedestrian path on right. Many restaurants on the same street and a convenient store just beside and across the street.

Central heating did not work in my room. Informed staff on 2nd night and they provided me with a cute heater lamp. Overall feel is quite old but not run down.

Location was perfected.

Staying here when the air conditioning system is still a heater is a torture. Can't adjust the cooling of the air conditioner. Sleeping was uncomfortable. Anyone who stays here late winter may consider adjusting the room temperature. because the cooling cannot be adjusted.

Near station, excellent service and staff, nice breakfast, we can left our baggage for several hours after check out, room size typical Japan’s room. My brother left his phone, we call and they agreed to send his phone to our next hotel. Thanks

Lift only one

+ location was excellent (just a 1-2min walk from/to Yamagata station and the bus stop to Zao is in front of the hotel) + bed and pillow were comfortable + USB port next to the bed + breakfast included in the rate (selection and quality were very decent considering what I paid for the room) + staff were polite and professional

- had a little difficulty with the wifi (the staff who resolved it for me said other guests experienced the same issue so am thinking the hotel should look into this)

The staff is very polite and customer service orientated. There are extra pillows provided and we can even choose our preferences. The free breakfast has bread, croissant and scrambled egg for halal options. Is 3 mins walk to the main station.
