A real treat for anyone interested in the history & speactacle of the Tunscan Hill Towns, Fortezza turns back the clock, but not without some dedicated style. This fortress is no longer complete, but the hotel rooms each have their charms & the welcome is genuine. We very much enjoyed learning about the local wine making (historical and more recent), and how local farmers, from sheep to wheat, are banding together to showcase their unique specialities while managing the volcanic terroir in an area completely devoid of pollution over a 50km radius. Very comfortable beds, excellent bathroom facilities & a comprehensive breakfast, the hotel is linked to a delightful restaurant in the village, after a short downhill walk. We plan to stay again.

The fact that we got to spend 2 nights in the middle of Tuscany in an 11th century castle was a dream!!! The accommodation is perfectly mixing the very well preserved details of the castle, while also offering all the needed amenities of the 21st century. Plus the amazing views over the city of Sorano were absolutely stunning. We travelled with a group of friends and a 5yo kid and everything was just perfect. The staff was very very helpful and understanding all the time, the breakfast was nice and tasty, making you feel like the nobles that once lived there. We also got to do a wine tasting and visit their cellars. There is also a free parking nearby and the location is just a 5/10 minutes walk to the small city center.

There was nothing we could complain about. We would be more than happy to re visit this amazing stay for sure! :)

Staying in castle was very nice experience! Good quality of breakfast.

I guess there was social gathering at night time inside the facility of castle. They practiced singing songs folklores and bang drums until 23:00. Our room was located just above the room for the gathering. We enjoyed their singing/ chorusing for while but it should be ended by around 21:00 just for hotel guests. The receptionist was always working alone and had to wait long time to be responded. Need to increase more staff at reception obviously especially for checking in and out time.

Incredible place with fantastic views from the windows. The interiors are exceptional. It's the first time I've slept in a real fortress. We had a small fridge in the room as well. This place is a good base to visit beautiful neighborhoods. Breakfast was fantastic, varied with lots of sweet and savory products (continental one), homemade marmalade, desserts, cheeses, and fruits. Very friendly and helpful staff (speaking English 😊) It was an amazing experience to spend some time in this fabulous place.

We had no access to the internet. We couldn't connect even with the help of the staff. Our roaming also didn't work, probably because of the thickness of the walls. But we could admire the atmosphere of the place instead of surfing the net 😉 If you plan a longer stay in the fortress you may not have enough space for your luggage. There are no wardrobes. Only some hangers ( around 5 in each room).

The room was lovely, we enjoyed staying in the room where the bed was on a mezzanine and looked out into the courtyard. Everything was extremely clean and comfortable. Loved the decorative touches (lights). The location has such beautiful views. The bed is very comfortable and we had a great sleep. The breakfast was €9 buffet and was one of the best hotel breakfasts we have had this trip.

Shower head a bit low for my partner but he is very tall! Dinner at the restaurant was nice and staff very attentive but we felt it was a little over priced and small portions.

The location is stunning and unique, inside the Orsini fortress of Sorano. The Suite, in the older upper level of the castle, was absolutely lovely with a fantastic view of the sunset, a full size kitchen, extra bed on an elegant mezzanine and a very characteristic fireplace. Breakfast was well assorted and all products were fresh and delicious, from the savoury to the sweet ones. The staff was professional and kind. The hotel also offers extra activities and targeted experiences ranging from tasting tours to night trekking etc.

The main bed of the Suite is quite small for two people and so is the TV, although a bigger screen would have probably ruined the medieval feel of the place. The only mean of communication with the reception is to use your personal phone to call them as there's no landline in the room (at least in the Suite). WiFi signal is close to non existent too as the thick walls of the room prevent a steady connection although the staff mentioned it's a problem that only affects that wing of the building.

We loved our beautiful, huge room in the tower. It has so much character and looks out over the portal entering the fortress, with another window looking out on the views below. We really enjoyed exploring the village and also drove down to explore the caves nearby. The views from the top of the village and also from the viewpoints on the hills opposite the fortress are incredible. What a magical place to stay! Breakfast was great too, thank you!

The wifi was very weak in our room in the tower. Otherwise everything else was perfect.

The staff were attentive and amazing. Breakfast was delicious and had many options including a lot of vegetarian options. We ate at the restaurant one night. The food was very good and much better than other area restaurants. It is a great place to stay for day trips to Pitigliano, Cascate del Mulino, and Civita di Bagnoregio. There are many shops in Sorano where the fortress is located. Just a great place to visit!

We were given room 14, which had a fantastic view of the city. The bed was comfortable, the room was pleasant, and the bathroom was clean. There were celebrations with music in the city, but closing the window made it non-disruptive. The owner served the coffees one morning; it was great talking to him and learning more about the castle. Thank you very much!

Only the wifi didn't work for either of us, but it's possible that some special settings were needed.

I stayed in Della Fortezza for 10 days while I was taking a ceramics course with local ceramist Mara Funghi. My stay was an absolute dream from the breathtaking views from every window of the room, great food both in breakfast and for fine dining and truly the sweetest staff. The place really started to feel like home and I am so grateful for the experience 🙏
