Modern, newly refurbished (with a lift!) yet still keeping to the traditional Japanese elements of a Ryokan. We loved that they offered a semi raised bed. Bedding was really comfy and our room was really spacious. Didn't have any issues with the in-room amenities at all! Amazing variety of local breakfasts every morning and great that you could have your own private breakfast area. Loved the samue provided and that it was refreshed daily! Onsen was kept very clean with a lot of amenities (spent a lot of time there!) Discount off ski passes & ski equipment if you're a guest here so you don't need to book your equipment in advance - just get it when you're there using their discount! Thank you to Yukiko-san and her family for opening their home to us and being so helpful.

If you have a lot of/big bags it is a bit of an uphill and downhill walk to get to, so just be prepared! But it didn't bother us.

A traditional Ryokan accomodation with warm Japanese hospitality. Yukiko and her husband are amazing hosts. We return to Nozawa as often as we can for ski season. This was our first stay with Nakajimya, we loved it! A large and spacious room that was beautifully presented and cleaned every day. We enjoyed the Onsen on the first floor everyday with the clean onsen pjs and towel kits. Located at the bottom of the village, it is quiet and peaceful but an easy walk to the centre of town. The ryokan provides a drying room, but never hire skis in town and walk up hill, this is a steep village! Always hire at Hikage and leave your gear on the hill each day. The team here made us feel like family, so welcoming and caring.

If I have to say anything, the beds are hard, but it’s a ryokan so this is to be expected.

Traditional-style ryokan with very elegant look. Fresh tatami floors in our room and everything was well maintained or new. Friendly helpful staff. Good location - in the heart of the village and a short walk to Yu-road travelator to Hikage gondola (you can leave your ski gear overnight at the ski hire places there, so a bit of a walk to the ryokan is fine). Good in-house onsen, and several other public onsens nearby.

No meals (but lots of options nearby). Not much hanging space in the room. Somewhat expensive, but a high-quality property.

A lovely Japanese hotel- with futon beds on the floor & traditional Japanese tea table. There were also two western chairs. Clean, quiet, large rooms, lovely onsen, friendly & helpful owners. Traditional Japanese breakfast was amazing, but too large for us. The owners were accomodating allowing us to select the items we wanted & we complimented this with some pastries we brought in ourselves. It was heaven to be able to soak in the onsen after a day on the slopes. Just a 350m walk from the bus stop. Plenty of shops nearby and main part of town a short 5-10min walk away.

Not problems, just comments for awareness: the bathroom was small but this is quite normal and very adequate. We made good use of the onsen which provided soap, shampoo & conditioner. There is a 10min walk up to the moving walkway which takes you to a gondola- but it is a pleasant walk through town & a good warm-up for a day on the slopes. Make sure you book your restaurants to be sure you can get a table- probably more of a problem for us as we were a party of 5.

Loved most things about this place and would definitely recommend it to others. The owners are great people and helpful.

I didn't check the pricing of other places closer to the ski fields, and if the quality was equally as good, I would consider them. However, if they are far more expensive, I would not hesitate to stay at Nakajimaya Ryokan again.

Our hosts were fabulous, extremely helpful with anything we needed. We loved our Japanese style breakfasts which set us up for the day skiing. The inhouse onsen was great. The location was good, just a 5 minute walk to the centre of town (uphill). We had one evening meal there which while it was expensive, it was definitely worth it, a real Japanese feast, great experience. We would highly recommend the Nakajimaya Ryokan.

Breakfast is amazing & excellent , location is about 200 m walk from centre of town, slightly uphill into town but very easy, a quiet side of town. Walk to moving walk way leading to gondola is about 400m, not easy to carry skis but very easy to leave then at cafes at gondola station for 100 yen daily, and easy to carry down again at end of holiday

Being a Ryokan the hotel has a lovely private Onsen but no showers in rooms, very nice entry hall and separate toilet though. The hotel provide clean towels & pyjamas every day for Onsen use.

Yukiko and staff went above and beyond for us. The dinner service was excellent Close promixity to the main street but far enough away from the noise Across the street from one of the 13 onsens in this town Dry room in the basement for all your wet ski gear

No private bath in our room - must shower in public onsen on 1F Slightly a bit far and an uphill climb from Yu Walk and the ski resort

Beautiful gracious Japanese hospitality. Very helpful and polite staff, spotless and clean. The breakfast and coffee at Hardy’s across the road is fantastic.

Bit of a walk to the gondola but you can store ski boots, skis ect for 300 yen a day at the first store on the left as you come off the moving walk

The staff were lovely. There was a public onsen right across the road and also within the building. My boys had to get used to bathing in a public space but they did it. It’s warm in the building and close to everything.

The futon on the floor was a bit hard after 4 nights but the beds were super comfortable.
