All good. Nice staff, a good onsun with lovely view (tip: go in the afternoon instead at night to enjoy the view). Good beds. Tip for breakfast (beside at the B&B): Cottage Inn restaurant, mainstreet Tip for dinner: local japanese restaurant Cafe Restaurant Bell and aks for the meal of the monks. Visit all the temples and shrines
In general it was clean, no comments on that. Except the aircondition filters. They were covered in dust (as it is in most hotels and B&B due to use and sometimes not proper cleaning), however these were cloghed by a thick layer of dust.

The staff working at the reception were very helpful and spoke English well. Amazing rooms in the traditional Japanese style. Very tasty breakfast. Quiet and peaceful location. Private Onsen overlooking the river. Free parking right next to the hotel.

The location was fantastic! The property is right on the river and if you get a riverside room you can hear it with windows closed. The room had great a/c but the common area did not. We loved walking out the door to the riverside trail with the Jizo statues along it. The bus stop to Kegon Falls was an easy few block walk. The Kayan House and Imperial summer palace were an easy walk as was a Lawson’s and a few restaurants. One of our party enjoyed the onsen. I saw 2 e-bikes out front but we didn’t ride them. The staff is very welcoming but bring a translator app as they speak little English.
The lack of a/c in the common area. The breakfast was good but seemed a bit pricey at $10. USD.

This property offers you a welcoming feel in a quaint ryokan-style setting. The private onsen is lovely (although you sometimes have to wait a bit for it to be available) and the room was nice, in my case with tatami floor and futon. The heating worked well during my ‘snow’ visit and I liked the whole atmosphere. It is a popular place as it’s also right next to the row of Buddhas. You can walk from this hotel into town in about 25 minutes or go to the bus stop in 10. It’s near some restaurants and Nikki Coffee, and if you take 10 mins to walk to the Imperial Villa and garden, there’s the most amazing soba restaurant next to it. All the major temples are also walking distance. The breakfast looked good with lots of fruit, egg and toast. They have a machine for purchasing beer and soft drinks, and some snacks are for sale.
My room was close to the onsen room, which at times was a bit noisy, but not so that it stops you from enjoying the place.

We had a fantastic stay at Hotori-An. We loved our room and how the hosts looked after us. The onsen was incredible and had amazing river and mountain views. Overall, our best stay in Japan.
Everything was great!

The location was great, it was easy to find, staff was kind, polite and cheerful. Great entrance filled with art (even though it was mostly for sale). The rooms were clean, WiFi worked a bit slow but OK for YouTube. Close to a conveince store and great food spots, you get a map and quick explanation of all the great spots around the area. If you get room 206 you can see, hear and smell the river. (One of the images is a map they provide. My lighting is terrible sorry.)
The breakfast was ¥1500, the fruits in the breakfast was amazing after 3 weeks of not eating any but it feels a little steeply priced. In my opinion it should be worth a ¥1000 but that's just me. TV was tiny thank God I brought my laptop. The WIFI was sometimes patchy but it's the mountains. So.... it's ok just nitpicking. Now this isn't the only hotel to have this issue but why is every toilet in Japan equipped with 0.5 ply toilet paper, the paper is see through. Now as toilet paper in the country goes this hotel was standard but please for the love of good someone stand a 2ply trend atleast. If the hotel personnel read this please ignore everything except the breakfast and TV comment.

Nikko can become quite crowded, but that won't affect you in this hotel. It's on the edge of town and thus away from the masses, but still perfectly situated to plan your visit to the surrounding area. Personnel is extremely friendly and facilities are really nice, especially the in-house onsen. Traditional room is a great experience - just make sure to bring an eye cover if you are a light sleeper (the traditional windows don't really keep the light out).
Can't think of anything! Be aware there aren't many restaurants nearby so dinner might be a bit of a challenge, but there's a convenience store nearby (10 min walk) or you can take the bus into town.

This was my second time at the Annex Turtle, and I was as happy as I was the first time. The hot bath is still great and this was going from winter (seeing snow outside) to Spring (seeing blossoms and greens outside) If you want to have a bit of a view, ask for the room further away from the hot tub. The service is homely and nice, and you can get your teas and instant coffees in the reception area for free. I didn't have breakfast, so don't know. The property is right (and I mean right) to the Road of Buddha's, but also walkable distance to everything else. The lady explains everything very well in English of where to go, which restaurants are still open past 21.00 and so on. There's also a Lawson's nearby so you can stock up for food, drinks and snacks. As I said, I booked it a second time.

Lovely location on the river, near the woods. The private onsen was excellent - very hot and welcome after a cold day outside. Room was large. Possible to walk into town (25 mins) and to many attractions.
Note: not about the hotel but the location generally and need for travel planning - Nikko is more difficult to get around without a car for certain things. The local convenience store is closed, and a lot of other cafes/restaurants too (not sure if permanently or just for the season). There are a couple of restaurants a walkable distance, but a bit more planning required if only using the bus/walking to get food, especially breakfast. There is in-house breakfast that looked good, but not everyone wants that style/size of breakfast everyday.

Really special accomodation. We stayed as a couple in the traditional Japanese room. The staff was lovely, the surrounding area was beautiful and close to all main sights and the bus station, but still kind of nestled away in a beautiful japanese suburban area. It is quiet and right next to the river. From our room we had a river view and could hear the stream at night. Restaurants were close by. The breakfast was nice, the staff was really helpful and provided information about the main sights. The private onsen bath also had a river view and Kimono-type clothing was provided for the visit. It was one of my favorite places that we stayed at in Japan. It really made Nikko one of the most romantic destinations.
