The building in itself is amazing. And the decoration is lovely. The dorms are cleverly designed so it doesn't feel cramped and you get a sense of privacy. You get a towel (which is rare in Japan) & free earbuds. Duvet is thick, so that must be great in winter)

No lockers! I know i'm in Japan but come on, there are foreign travellers everywhere in the city and, in my case i carry 7k€ worth of gear so... Location is a bit far from the station but not too far from the end of the main touristy street. You can NOT use the common area after 11PM! This is the first time i see something like this in 30 years of travelling. People like me work/eat sometimes late. Also, when you have dorms, people want to socialize and still be respectful of others (especially when 2 doors separate that big area from the first dorm so...)

Group of 9 so we booked 3 rooms (1 family, and two twin rooms). My husband and I have stayed in a few guesthouse/hostel accommodations in Japan and this is the best one we've used! Very clean, staff really helpful, kitchen has everything you need and they have free tea and coffee (drip coffee) available. The family room had heaps of space to fit 5 of us and we were on the second floor so the female toilets and bathroom were easily accessible for my two daughters. Our family of 4 booked the private bathroom as well and it was really nice - all got to have a soak after a day up the mountain, worked out cheaper than us all paying for the local bathhouse. Loved the decor of the place as well!

One thing to note was that the twin rooms are quite small. Not a lot of room to spreadout with suitcases but value for money for this place is very good.

This is a tastefully decorated, exceptionally clean, comfortable place to stay in Otaru. Worked perfectly for my family of four visiting Hokkaido to ski. My wife and I had the triple room, and my boys (16 and 13) had a double room. We made our own breakfasts and sack lunches in the kitchen before heading out to ski each morning, and loved the complimentary coffee and made pour-over coffee for our thermoses. The common area was quiet and very comfortable, with an amazing jazz soundtrack going from 7am-9pm and wifi fast-enough to zoom into meetings. The hosts were flexible and exceptionally kind. The Lawson across the street is almost too easy to get to, and the COOP grocery store and public Onsen are both easy 10-minute walks away--and there are endless dining options with 15 minutes by foot (yakitori, ramen, okonomiyaki, tempura, and, of course, world-famous sushi!). Seriously, I can't recommend this place enough! We'll stay there again when we visit to ski Kiroro, Kokasai, and Teine--and maybe even Niseko, tho' we didn't make the drive that far south as the snow was too good at the closer areas.

My boys thought the double room as a little small, but they also had a lot of ski gear with them, and they fight like siblings anyway--so take that with a grain of salt!

The stay is amazing! The hotel is located in a beautiful western-style house and the decoration is classy. Our room come with seaview over the lovely neighborhood. The hotel staffs are super friendly. We were able to leave our luggage before we check in because we arrived earlier than the check in time. The neighborhood is quiet but also very close to the main street. Would recommend to anyone who is visiting Otaru.

The facilities were clean and well cared for with a great atmosphere. There were many different types of room options that made it great for groups, and each room was quiet without much outside noise. The room was air conditioned with many lights and electrical outlets. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I felt right at home. This experience was even better than a hotel. Such great value for our stay!

The shower and toilet stalls were a little small with not much space to move around, but very clean

Beautiful guest house in a really convenient location in Otaru. The bathrooms are very nice and clean; the shared showers are very functional, water pressure is fantastic and enough space to store your things without getting wet. The bed was so comfortable and bedroom was a nice size - I was in a twin room, travelling with a friend. The shared living room has beautiful eclectic decorations but very comfortable and functional. Staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Bunk bed space was really spacious and comfortable. Dorm room was also spacious. Small kitchen for guests, which was OK-equipped. I asked for a spatula on the first day but there wasn't one so I had to improvise with another kitchen utensil. On the second day I asked a different member of staff and was eventually provided with an actual spatula. Free drip coffee was good. Nice decor throughout, lounge area was chilled and comfortable (however, I'd say not for big groups of people who want to make a lot of noise). Staff friendly and helpful. Good location near to Lawsons and a supermarket.

I never had to wait for a shower cubicle to be available but just be aware there is only 3 shower cubicles designated female only and 3 for the men. The toilets are separated by gender but the showers are in a mixed area.

The building, the decorations are just so pretty! It's like out of a storybook! It was also quiet during my stay so I truly had the chance to rest. The staff was very understanding and accommodating when I could only do a late check-in. They went above and beyond to ensure that I could access my room, and answered all my inquiries.

The shower room was very small. It's NOT a complaint, I promise. I had no issue with small shower room, but I thought future travelers who might have an issue with small shower room should know before booking. Perhaps try asking if they have rooms with private (and bigger shower room). But honestly I didn't mind it!

Such a strange and groovy little place! 3 of us in a room, shared (good!) bathroom, great futons, big room. Really comfy social lounge, great little kitchen. Central. Cheap. Friendly. Loved it

Parking at the back? Nitpicking. Honestly a great stay. Highly recommended from us, their restaurant recommendations just spot on too. Yeah Little Barrel! And yeah Otaru!

I like their cozy living room which is a perfect place to meet and chitchat with people. Their kitchen has all the cooking utensils you need. you can boil water, cut fruits, and even cook rice. They provide plates, bowls, cups etc. I also like the colors and decoration of the house including the tiles used in the toilets and shower room, and also the dry flower hanging on the wall of the corridor. You can see the owner has a good taste.

Shower rooms for men and women share the same entrance, which is very confusing. When my daughter pushed the door of the entrance, all were men inside, she thought she had gone to Men's shower room by mistake. She told me she couldn't find the shower room in this house and unfortunately, at that time, the only staff was just off. Suggestion: The staff should tell guests that the shower rooms for men and women share the same entrance.
