Experience of staying at a traditional spa hotel by the sea. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good onsen on top floor including outdoor pool with views of sea/bay. Comfortable, quiet room with tatami flooring and futons. Good breakfast selection. Hotel shop good selection of clothes and gifts. Free shuttle bus between train station and hotel - reserve by emailing/messenging hotel before arrival, and at reception during stay. Current timetable: 14:40 station to hotel; 10:00 hotel to station. Interesting walk round coast from hotel to cape and shrine on island. From station pleasant exploring central Tanabe, including shrines, traditional shops, beach, Aikido museum.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was nice and the breakfast buffet was nice. The view at the room was awesome and Tenjinzaki was just a short walk away. The hotel prepared antibacterial spray for every room which I appreciated. The onsen was a cosy one and I enjoyed the outdoor bath better. Needed amenities were all provided. The only thing was the location was a distance away from Kii-Tanabe station. We didn’t know that a hotel shuttle was available and so we walked all the way to the hotel. But it was a nice walk. And they even provided us with a simple onigiri the next day for our trek. It was a nice surprise. The sake sold at the hotel souvenir shop was also really good too. Overall, I definitely would recommend the place and if I have the chance, will visit again!

A resort-like property in Tanabe, on the coast, 20 min away from the center. Traditional Onsen to relax, very nice breakfast, coastal area with a national part to walk around. Hotel provides shuttle service to/from the station, which was very convenient. In addition to breakfast, nice little market in the hotel with both food and merchandise.

Not much else to do except Onsen in the hotel, but this is expected for this type of resort.

We were lucky to get room 409 which was the mixed Japanese/western room. The room was huge with a wrap around balcony off three of the rooms with large windows and sensational views across the bay and over to the island. We closed off the Japanese section of the room as there were only two of us and we still had a large bathroom, lounge room, bedroom with big comfy twin single beds. Loved the rooftop onsen with views and the breakfast. So much to love about this place

Wish I had booked for more than one night

The rooms were comfortable, the views to the ocean were magnificent, and the staff went out of their way to be incredibly helpful. A lovely old fashioned hotel.

The location for an early start to the Kumano Kodo walk wasn’t ideal: we needed to take a taxi to the bus stop, but the staff organised this for us. I would stay there again

It’s an old hotel so don’t expect anything modern but in typical Japanese fashion the service is impeccable and they give you a lot of food for free. Also every room is oceanfront. I went there because I was doing the Kumano Kodo trail which is close.

Not every room has a shower there’s a community shower so make sure you ask for an upgrade it’s only like 10 dollars more a night for a room with a private shower which is obviously worth it.

The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The lady in the souvenir shop was very nice and helped me choose a good dried plum, which is a specialty of the region. The food was very good and the breakfast buffet was great, giving everyone an option to choose what they wanted, both Japanese and western. The quality was also good.

The corridor was too hot. The bed was hard for me.

Gorgeous views from the rooms and the public baths. The rooms were kept nice and cool which made the hot Japanese summer days more bearable. Very friendly and competent staff. Delicious meals for dinner and generous buffet breakfast.

Unfortunately they could not accommodate us in one way, we caught a large fish on a charter outing in the morning. They couldn't help us prepare it for dinner, nor could we cancel the meal that evening since it was booked as a package.

The Dinner and Buffet Breakfast were excellent. The food was fresh and well presented. If you like fish like I do, you will enjoy your stay. If you have tattoos it is best to discuss what time is best to visit the onsen with the front desk before bathing.

It's a little far off the beaten track. There didn't seem to be any public transport near the hotel.

This ryokan is located directly at the Pacific Ocean and features only rooms with ocean view. You can enjoy an onsen with outdoor bath (rotemburo) and ocean view; the ladies' spa and the men's spa alternate daily, so guests can try both. The hotel staff is very hospitable. The buffet breakfast includes western and Japanese dishes (I didn't have dinner at the hotel).

The location is nearly 4 km away from the railway station Kii-Tanabe and the city center. It is a long walk or the cost for taxi rides could sum up quickly (1480 Yen each way). Guests without a car would certainly appreciate a shuttle bus service and rental bikes at the hotel. (At the railway station, the tourist information rents out electric assisted bikes for as little as 500 Yen per day, though.)
