Enjoyed being in a tranquil setting and having all required amenities at the hotel. The suite had a kitchen and small fridge which we utilized daily. The beach was a 5 min walk and the hotel provides towels and an umbrella to take with you. We had the beach to ourselves which was a major bonus. We very much enjoyed their fruit smoothies to start the day and a cocktail to end the day.

This is being picky as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Mauna. The variety of lunch and dinner food offerings could be better. The flavours started to taste the same in many of the dishes. Other local restaurants were closed during our visit. We didn’t buy enough groceries for our stay which was a lesson learned on our part. Make sure you bring extra pesos to account for taxis and eating at other restaurants.

Quiet, comfortable, laidback. Nice terrace. Well equipped kitchen. Very comfy bed. Infinity pool. Food is excellent. Very nice deco and design. Cute little beach 5/10 min away from hotel if you don’t mind the stairs.

The view on the ocean in most of the units is partial. You see a bit of the ocean but not enough to fully enjoy it or to see sunset/sunrise. I was disappointed about that as they advertised ocean view . Loads of mosquitos. Location away from everything if you plan to cook make sure you buy your groceries in Huatulco. We did not rent a car so we were depending in taxi which cost about 750.000 pesos from La Crucecita.

The breakfast was amazing. I am not vegan but my partner is and I and the other guests at the time of stay absolutely loved the breakfast and the options. By the end when I wanted to get fish and the other places in the area were closed I was secretly happy as the food at Casa Mauna is deeeellicious. Summer rolls were favourite but all the mains and breakfast options are amazing and made with so much care. Our romantic dinner was delicious and very sweet. The vegan baileys??? Amazing. We were also very excited to see so many birds and butterflies (we are from London lol) and the hummingbirds coming to plants during breakfast was a highlight 😀 Lovely staff, met Euan (owner) and his son - very lovely people. Made some wonderful friends during our stay too.

I think you probably could do with a car to avoid issues and cost getting around and if you wanted to go to Huatulco as it is isolated. The pool is lovely but if you want to swim in the sea it is too choppy and getting to the other beaches on foot is possible but hot work especially if you need to carry supplies (umbrella, cool box etc) however we did not need to go anywhere as the suites and pool and beach were enough for 4 days. Longer and you may consider alternatives.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location, far away from any noise. You only hear the Pacific, birds and insects,. The views both from the rooms and from the restaurant/pool are amazing. Rooms are comfortable with air-con and kitchen with everything needed. Staff is very nice and helpful. The beautiful and empty beach is just a 3 minute walk away. But the highlight is probably the infinity pool where I could easily spend a whole day while enjoying delicious food and drinks from the restaurant. Probably the best vegan restaurant I have ever eaten at.

Everything was great!

Casa Maina is a hidden gem about 20 minutes from the Huatulco airport in the tiny community of Salchi. Beautifully appointed suites with kitchen facilities and lovely big balcony with a spectacular view of the ocean. Wonderful hosts and great staff. Would go back in a heartbeat!

We actually kind of liked that it was off the beaten track but you should be aware that a car is needed if you want to buy groceries or explore beyond the hotel.

Exceptional architecture/design of building and apartment. Beautiful location. Helpful staff (when asked). Off-site owner responds immediately to questions. Well equipped kitchen. Notes: Only swimming beach is in Cuatunalco just to the left (southeast) of the massive rocks projecting into the sea, opposite the beginning of the lagoon and la Panguita on Google Maps. Best seafood dinner (and least expensive) is in the village at Choza De Chivis.

Suggestions: make it clear up front the restaurant is 100% vegan and make this clear in the welcome email so omnivores can buy supplies in Huatulco. (you can also eat at Manta Raya - a short walk down the hill) This place is more European style (reserved) than Mexican style (overtly warm and welcoming). Once you adjust to that it's a slice of luxury in the wilderness. Also the hotel description should mention their steps (the hotel is built into a steep hillside): 25 from the parking lot to the first landing, 25 from their to reception/restaurant/pool, 25 from landing to our apartment. So might be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues (OK for us, thinking about others.)

Casa Mauna is located in Salchi, a remote area, with stunning landscapes and beach. The accommodation facing the sea are wonderful and the pool with its lovely cocktails made the stay just perfect.

While the food from the vegan restaurant is delicious, I would have appreciated some more diversity and some non vegan options leveraging the seafood and local delicacies.

Big, spacious apartment, very fast WiFi, very good vegan food, super friendly staff, umbrellas for the beach, good towels, clean pool. Altogether a very nice hotel!

A bit off the beaten track, but you should know what you are booking ;-)

Where to start; Casa Mauna was the highlight of our trip on the west coast! Every other hotel felt disappointing after it. Ewen, his wife and their team have put together a very special place. We loved every bit of it. it’s a cliff house with wonderful views, you can hear the ocean from your room, you get amazing golden hour sunsets from the pool and the restaurant is also very yummy and fairly priced. you go down some steps and walk a minute or two and you’re on a wild beach where you can swim with manta rays. The apartment is very cute and well equipped, you have everything you need. The terrace is of good size and perfect to work or chill. We loved our stay and actually came back for a second one on the way back from Puerto Escondido. Its the perfect escape when you’re travelling on that side of the country, do not miss it!

The beach by walking distance, the restaurant and the pool were amazing. Staff was friendly as well. They helped us a lot recovering some chargers we left on the room.

Upstairs neighbors were kind of loud, we could hear them stamping on the floor.
