The hotel, situated within a 300-year-old hacienda style building was very atmospheric—with long corridors and inner courtyards lined with eclectic decorations, that were occasionally punctured by the sounds of fluttering pigeons in flight. Our room was spacious, especially the bathroom and wash basin area. Because of this however, the aircon may take a while to cool the room, especially in the sweltering weather of El Fuerte at this time of the year. That said, on the whole, this wasn't an issue for us. The location of the hotel, within walking distance of the plaza, was excellent. We could also easily walk over to the Museum El Fuerte-Mirador, as well as the walking path along the Rio Fuerte. Staff were pleasant, and Julia in particular took the initiative to check in whether we needed a taxi for our Chepe Express train the day before we were supposed to depart.

For the majority of our stay, we could only use the WiFi from the lobby. That said, the WiFi there was strong and worked well (even for uploading videos).

Excellent building, really interesting. Room was big and very nicely decorated. Two minutes walk from the main square. The room was well equipped.

It's a shame that the hotel doesn't do breakfast. It has the standing and space and size to be able to offer this. If you want to leave relatively early for the train then you have to buy stuff in from the supermarket but there is no fridge to keep things in and no coffee maker in the room. I am getting a tad annoyed about the tip envelopes in Mexico hotel rooms especially when you are only staying one night - what special service warranting a tip do you get? Also clearly had not checked that everything worked in the room - ceiling fan, hairdryer - not an issue for us but certainly not too worthy!

The huge plus for this hotel is the charm, quiet, old fashioned ambience of this amazing building. With it's eclectic hacienda style, a visit is like stepping back in time. The form of the building, open courtyards with indigenous paintings, sculptures and other artefacts make it a highly rewarding place to stay.

By modern standards, the facilities are lacking - e.g. no kettle, coffee maker and wifi does not got to the rooms. (However, for some unfathomable reason, our room did have TV.) But the lack of these sorts of modern conveniences is in keeping with the overall style and shouldn't be taken too strongly. And a general comment about El Fuerte - charming and well worth a visit, but come armed with effective insect repellent - otherwise ubiquitous swarms of voracious midges will leave you with bites which are extremely itchy and take weeks to heal, even if not scratched.

Lovely hacienda hotel, 1 block away from the main square. The hotel staff was very professional and helpful. The room was huge and comfortable. The photos of the place are reliable.

Caters to many groups which means it can get noisy. The shower was luke warm. The restaurant was closed so no food was available, no biggie though, as you could walk 10 minutes to the plethora of options in town. It would have been nice to explain that ordering a taxi to the train station would cost 200$ and not 60$ like on the way in. Because we shared it was cheaper, understand the logic and it wouldn't have changed the price, but it would have been nice to confirm with me first, instead of waiting for the taxi driver to bring it up.

Neat, interesting building with nice small pool, and spacey, traditionally decorated, clean rooms. Very colorful and endless passages to explore. Awesome sunset views from the roof. Very close to towns main square and next to “Zorro Hotel”. Serves no breakfast but small simple cafe open next doors and plenty of restaurant options within 3 minutes of walking. They also contacted us with a great tour company.

Repetitive offer of very highly priced massage.

This hotel is fabulous from the time you set foot in it. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are amazing, so quaint, colorful and comfortable. My favorite hotel in Mexico. It was nice to have as much filtered water as you like in the passage. The pool is pretty and clean. You cannot ask for a better location. Near the square, restaurants, church and museum.

Everything was great.

The hotel was very quaint with lots of original tile and Mexican decor. Very beautiful and interesting. Good location.

There was construction at the hotel so it was quite dusty. The outdoor Jacuzzi was dirty and water cold. We made the mistake of thinking Jacuzzi equaled hot tub. The rooms are a little dated. Old box TV’s with very poor quality. Our friends TV didn’t work at all. Restaurant was not open . They would do breakfast if pre ordered for 160 pesos. Lots of other options outside the hotel.

Hotel El Fuerte is in the most amazing building, very comfy beds, and the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful (giving us advice on river tours, and organising our taxi to get to the El Chepe train station).

Our shower was on the chilly side but it was hot enough that we didn't mind.

Good location, spacious room, very beautiful hotel, nice staff

If there's a noise somewhere near in the corridor, it's heard very loudly. The installations are not very new and not perfectly clean. The internet doesn't work in room's because the walls are so thick that the signal just doesn't get through.

So incredibly cute and centrally located. It's a small town with a main square, a little fort and a river walk. The staff was lovely and helpful, and it was very attractive. There were three young girls taking their photos for their quinceneras the one day we were there! Finally, I left my t-shirt in the room and the staff sent a driver all the way to the train station with it to find me before I boarded El Chepe. I have never known a hotel to do that before!

Hot water was spotty.
