This is a cool hotel in a historic building on a beautiful island. We loved exploring the former fort. It was a fantastic price for the location--a lovely boat ride away from the heart of Oslo. Breakfast was outstanding--made even more memorable by the beautiful location overlooking the islands of the Oslofjord.

It was great. I'm not sure what all the grumbling by other reviewers is about. If they want the service and standards of a Hilton, instead of a historic memorable hotel, they should stay in a bland hotel in Oslo instead. The hotel is on the register of historic hotels of Europe. And is one of the more memorable places I have stayed.

The history of the area was fascinating, and the Hotel fits right into it nicely. I splurged for the three-course meal at the restaurant – and it was spectacular.

I wouldn’t say I “didn’t like” it - the room I had was typical of what hotel rooms in Europe used to be, and still often are. It can come across as a little “no frills“ by American standards. But it was clean and comfortable. One thing that’s not apparent from the advertising or on the Maps - the grounds of the hotel and surrounding island involves some fairly significant hills. Which isn’t a bad thing, but I am rehabilitating a strained knee, which made getting around a little slow and challenging.

Beautiful destination and loved the history, hiking, and views. We were there for wedding and food and reception was exceptional.

Better communication before the stay about the alternatives to taking bus from Oslo. We went back to Oslo on the boat that made lots of stops and that was far superior than bus and ferry from Drobak.

Marvelous location, perfect for exploring the fortress. Comfortable rooms in former dormitories of the Navy NCO school. Very good but expensive dinner

The maitre d' (of sorts) seemed to be somewhat dazed and confused, He didn't know what wines he had, so he brought several ones he could get hold of for us to choose which was OK in the end. He announced we were going to have Black Angus, but what we got was a cut of pork roast, excellent though, but certainly not beef.

We enjoyed the extraordinary historic location. Beautiful islands with enough to explore to extend our stay to two nights. Family rooms are comfortable and have a wonderful view. We also appreciated the extensive breakfast buffet. Very tasty and a lot of variation.

Magical location on the island with a lot of history. Loved that everything was so accessible.

Restaurant was closed, even though we received a message asking to book for dinner and did so. Had to go to cafe across the bridge which also was on limited menu.

Location, view and confort, also the shampoo and cream set

Our room was just painted and they forgot the protection paper on the roof. The restaurant was really expensive with few options and was a poor breakfast, also i think was lacking waiters, bc even wasnt full at the dinner we waited 1 hour to ASK for our order, plus they even didnt put pillows on the outdoor chairs, you need to ask for it, also for spices, water... . Really poor service at restaurant, really. Bring your food from home and do a picnic.

everything is good except there is no one at reception (because of the summer vacation?) 5 or 6 groupe people waiting at the reception and no one is there, nearly after ten minutes comes one part time worker.

The bartender was extremely friendly, offering fresh fruit punch. We had booked at the restaurant and were pleased the a la carte meal. Fantastic view from our table.

The place is magic on a good weather summer day.

To be given room with a view to the path instead of to the fjord when there were plenty of these available.
