It is amazing to stay inside Gamlebyen. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite off of the central plaza. What you are paying for is partly the experience of staying in something historical and authentic and being in the heart of the old city. It is a unique experience to stay here. You can see and feel the history of the structure and imagine what it would have been like living in the area hundreds of years ago. At the same time it is updated with everything you could want including a washer and dryer. The private courtyard was lovely at night and in the morning. The artwork on the walls is also phenomenal. This suite is very rich in texture and was just beautiful. The bedroom on the main level had a glass door (with a wooden dutch door outside). You could open it up to the courtyard, which was a lovely touch. There is another bedroom upstairs along with the large kitchen and living room. Downstairs is the main bedroom and 3/4 bathroom with the washer and dryer. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Wished I would have taken photos of the upper floors to post here.

Historical old stairs up to the second floor have narrow treads, but that is something that can't be changed. You just have to be careful on the stairs because you are staying in a structure that is mainly how people would have moved around in hundreds of years ago. Not exactly a negative, just something for people to be aware of.

Staff and owner gave us a warm and personal welcome. You feel, if someone just has trained communication phrases, or if people really mean what they say! This hotel communicates in a fantastic way, picking up all points and questions of the guest. As a guest, you expect nice and clean rooms - this hotel adds a personal note: Each room is furnished differently, and small details (vase of flowers on the window sills, water and coffee prepared, a nice terasse in the atrium, ...) make the difference to big hotels.

Beautiful location. Check-in was efficient. very friendly staff. We had reserved a family suite - stunning apartment - beautifully designed. Quiet and private location. Hotel located within old, walled-fortified village - stunning area with an incredible history Comfortable and roomy living accommodations with modern appliances.

Apartment was located away from the main hotel - Would like to have a facility map linked to the hotel website.

The location was great and the breakfast was excellent, although it is in a nearby cafe and at extra cost. The staff were friendly and helpful. Good mattress.

The small room was cluttered; there was no free surface space to put anything on, not even a bedside table on one side of the bed.

Gamlebyen is the (small) old town (1600 or so) within Fredriikstad. On Saturday busy with day tourists. The hotel is fully in style of the old town, yet very comfortable. Good breakfast facilities (Vaerk) and plenty of restaurant available.

Perfect location, friendly staff, OK breakfast (additional cost), good shower, a lovely single room. The old town, the one-minute free ferry to the Fredrikstad city, the museum, the cobbled streets, walls and moats.

Nothing to dislike

Our ground-floor room was a bit too intimate for comfort, with window and door opening straight onto the outdoor seating area. Pretty expensive for what was on offer.

Really nice hotel, great location, very friendly and helpful reception staff. Didnt have the breakfast due to leaving early, but did go to the very nice cafe for lunch, the local soup was very nice, the bread was great and staff was very friendly. Will visit both again.

Most beautiful hotel and exquisite room in historical ambience in Gamle Byen in Fredrikstad. Extremely friendly and helpful staff both with the bike and the tour planning. Good breakfast at the close by collaborating cafe.

Garbage collection car (?) as early as 5 am in front of the hotel.

EVERYTHING, BUT THE BREAKFAST WAS UBER-AMAZING AND THE ROOM AT VÆRK WAS COOL

I don´t like this questionaire because it puts ektefeller and kjæreste in the same category. I think its very important to differentiate between moral people and immoral. Please remember that next time when designing a questionnaire (and don´t take my too seriously about the moral issue!!!!)
