For visiting Vardø / Vardøya (and, in particular, the Vardøhus Festning - the world's most northerly fortress), the hotel's location is unparalleled. The food was excellent as regards both taste and preparation, and the manager's helpful recommendation of a local cider to accompany "the best cod in the world" and helpful explanation of what "brown cheese ice cream" (tastes much better than it sounds in English) is were much appreciated. But the highlight of our stay was said manager telling me on our second day (after I had explained that I had been dreaming of visiting Vardøhus Festning for a decade) that he - the manager - had arranged with the fortress' commandant (a serving Norwegian Army officer) for my wife & I to have a private guided tour with said commandant of the closed parts of the fortress. .

These are nitpicks in comparison with the great strengths of the hotel (vested prncipally in the staff and their connections in the local community) but - the rooms were a little distressed in the margins, and the restaurant & wine menus (in what was apparently "off season" despite being August) was quite limited - it would have become repetive on a longer stay.

My partner and I stayed at the Vardo Hotel for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. We are both wildlife lovers so this was a little gem for us - for example we booked a puffin/whale safari trip through the hotel (where we made friends with Boris, the guide, who was brilliant!). On arrival we were greeted by Eirik who made us feel so welcome - he offered us lots of great recommendations of places to visit and would also come and chat to us over dinner, which created such a warm friendly vibe about the place. During the day my partner and I would go out exploring, and something I loved was the warm cosy feeling you got when walking back into the hotel in the evening. In terms of food there is a restaurant in the hotel and the meals are delicious. The breakfasts are also exceptional. For example tasty coffee, waffles, fruits, meats/cheeses etc. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from a food shop which was really convenient. Finally the view from the room was lovely and the rooms themselves were pleasant and clean.

The only negative (and for me this is something minor as overall we were really happy) was that above the bed there is a little shelf that's made to cover the light, which wasn't the comfiest if wanting to sit up in bed. Additionally our room had 2 single beds pushed together rather than a double bed. However- certainly nothing that would put me off staying that this lovely hotel again!

The room was clean and comfortable and had a nice view of the harbour.

Kettle was provided but there was no tea cups. Bedroom has a shelf along wall above beds, which makes it uncomfortable to sit up in bed and you can really easily hit your head. Breakfast was good but the first day there was no water in coffee machine so we couldn't prepare coffee. Second day the drip tray for coffee machine needed to be emptied so we couldn't prepare the coffee again. Problem was that there was no staff that could help. I would empty it myself but there was no acessible sink in the dining area.

Very convenient location 100 m from the tourist information center and the Hurtigruten port. Good breakfast included. Huge window towards the harbour. Spacious and clean room. Vardø itself is an amazing place to be and deserves a couple of days for explorations.

Staff was rather "nordic distant". Friendliness and engagement needs a little improvement. Breakfast buffett was almost empty 1.5 hours before it ended for two days in a row. That is something staff definitely need to have an eye on.

The Vardo Hotel is in an excellent location right on the harbour, with the Tourist Information Centre and the ferry to Hornoya Island almost next door and other key tourist attractions only a short walk away. The rooms are light and pleasant, although a harbour view would be better than a street view, and we appreciated having a fridge. We had a very good meal at the hotel’s restaurant, which has views of the harbour, and the staff were friendly, efficient and helpful.

We missed having team and coffee-making facilities in the room or in a communal area. I wish more hotels provided this service. The hot water dispenser at the breakfast buffet was difficult to use and the water does not stay hot - unlike the coffee dispensers. Supplies at the breakfast buffet seemed to take a little too long to be replenished by staff.

The room had a wonderful view of the harbour and it was very comfortable including two arm chairs. The buffet breakfast was good and there was a waffle maker which is something we appreciate. Coffee and cookies as well as apples are available all day. There is a laundry room that had detergent available (no charge to use the washer and dryer). We really appreciated the little details.

Great location, just near the harbour. Lovely big room with view of harbour. Little touches like boot stand for wet footwear in corridor were great. Limited menu, but lovely food. Beds comfortable.

Kettle provided but no cups/mugs, nor any tea/coffee. Limited menu(2 fish dishes, 2 meat dishes) - no vegetarian or vegan dishes listed on menu (but may have been available - we didn't ask. Bedroom has an annoying strip/shelf along wall above beds, which makes it difficult/uncomfortable to sit up in bed (only 1 pillow provided). Single use plastic cups in bathroom- shame.

Clean, comfortable and perfect service. We spent our 20th anniversary here in the "most northeastern" place in Norway. The reception arranged some flowers as a surprise and made us the reservation for our dinner. Also we most probably got an upgrade to our room due to the occasion without any extra price.

Nothing bad to say.

Nice and pet friendly hotel. Good breakfast. The staff was kind and helpful.

Smoking people next the main doors, huuh! Next to the bed, there was no cupboard to place a mobile phone or TV remote control (the room of a guest with an animal is simple and probably with older furnishings).

The room was clean and comfortable and had a nice view of the harbour. The room was a good size and it was nice to sit by the window and enjoy the view. The hotel is looking a little tired, but for the price paid it was fine. The breakfast was good.

I didn't have a problem with anything - it's obviously not a luxury hotel but it wasn't luxury prices, so it was fine.
