The hotel is a fairytale castle equipped with all the modern conveniences for comfort and luxury. Special mention for the quality of the food, which was exceptional throughout the duration of our stay. The bedding is exceptional, the in room wifi and entertainment are also flawless.

There are some gaps in the staff training which detracted from an otherwise wonderful experience. The gardeners had no notion of how disruptive their work was, and starting up the leafblowers outside the bedrooms at 8.15 am was a rude awakening. The spa staff was also lacking some hospitality training, as we accidentally strayed into an unmarked restricted area and were rudely expelled. A sign or a short explanation at the reception would have sufficed to avoid the encounter, which just made us feel unwelcome and led to us cancelling the remaining treatments.

We had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful hotel for two nights during a 4 week trip to Portugal in February, and I have to say it truly lives up to its 5 Stars. The Palace and the grounds are amazing. Our rooms were more than adequate size, clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The dining areas were very elegant and beautifully decorated, as was the lounge/bar area. The employees were friendly and very helpful, and the breakfast offered an abundant and delicious variety of options. We truly enjoyed our stay and hope to return someday.

We where surprise about the importance the Vidago Palace spend to the plants, the "little" forest and the remaining of nature there, the lake ( with the ducks, the quantity of birds and so on, it is amazing. The staff is very compedtent and , of coujrse, very sweet...The staff at "pequeno almoço" so careful, Mrs.Conceição at the water-fountain and everybody at the Terms, Hydromassage, Vichy, Reception, Angela, Susana,Claudia , (as nobody is perfect ...)summing up everybody well prepared and nearly perfect. WE"LL CERTAINLY COME BACK NEXT YEAR

Well, there is nothing to complain, but we think that a coffee and tea possibility at the rooms

the hotel itself and its beautiful building, both out side and inside. The room - big and airy with huge windows. the staff - pleasant and efficient. the spa - clean and wonderful facilities. the bars - especially the wine cellar. the forest and wonderful walks.

the food. breakfast was ok but no fresh vegetables, no omelettes stand , the dinner at the ballroom - very mediocre and rather expensive. since there are hardly any restaurants around having a good dinner is a problem.

Absolutely gorgeous grand hotel. It is perfectly decorated and maintained. Nothing is dated. Makes you feel like royalty. Stay long enough to linger in every room and dine in every dining room. Enjoy the breakfast. It is unequaled. Not my first stay and not my last....

The only disappointing part of the stay was the service at the bar. Both times, the service was slow, although there were few guests, and somewhat unpleasant. This contrasted with our first stay when the bar staff had been extremely friendly and professional.

Real luxary from arriving till departure: beautiful room with really big bathroom. Classy furniture, kingsize. bed, tv with everthing you want (incl10 sportchannels). Spa with big gym, big inner pool, huge outer pool, tropical hot outer pool, sauna, Turkish bath etc. Dining on Saturday with live pianist, incredible food (michelin star). Breakfast with everything you can imagine; incl. many home made or regional specialities; all juices natural hotel made without added sugars. Outside incredible 18 holesgolf course and huge gardens with trees and plants from different parts of the world. Last but not least: very helpful and genuinly friendly staff. My wife and i will sure be back to this paradise of luxury, beauty and peace in the north of Portugal.

This is not the first time we have visited Vidago and we are pleased to say that the breakfast has become much better. And overall the hotel is very pleasant, it is calm and serene, which is valuable nowadays

Unfortunately the most beautiful and delicious restaurant was closed during our visit, but we understand that everyone needs a holiday. It was replaced by a small restaurant in the wine cellar, which was not bad either.

It was a former royal palace which has been “reconditioned “, ie original style, but in working order. Public rooms are elegant and beautifully furnished; the bedroom was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and supplied with Milton Brown toiletries. The staff are attentive, friendly and efficient. The menus are inventive, and the food was well presented and served. Breakfast was a delight! Overall this was one of the best hotels we have stayed in in Iberia, if not all Europe!

Nothing!

Excellent breakfast. Plunge coffee needs improvement

1)Unfriendly reception at the spa. Arrived at spa to find out more, eager to see the pool, no attempt was made to get up and to accompany us to the pool area as would any other spa attendant. I didn’t go back. 2) Bar menu needs improvement/ better variety Main dining room menu too fussy, not surprisingly very few diners were there

Beautiful hotel, excellent food. Grounds are magnificent.

Main restaurant far too bright, waiter indifferent, not warm or friendly, shame as the food was delicious and well presented, we felt the wait staff let down the kitchens hard work. The cellar restaurant again had a good menu but no atmosphere, we cancelled and ate in the bar.
