One of the best places I've ever stayed. It's not the right place for those who want something luxury but it's the place for people appreciating good taste and home atmosphere. It's former jail, yes, but it's one of the coziest places I've seen. I enjoyed everything: cozy atmosphere, comfortable bed, inner decor, breakfast, easy check in at night. Special thank you for fresh flowers and candles! They really gave the feeling of home. It was so nice to talk to the owner at the end of my stay and to learn the story of family business. Room was clean and tiny :) but that was OK cause I traveled alone, really historical place and nice, staff was really good and did a short history overwiev for me also wich was superb !

I did not liked the public shower room, it was clan and all good but the curtain of the shower keept getting stuck to my back and not so much room to do thing is there. Also no warm breakfast wich was a shame. The doors were smashing when closing I had a late morning and it kept wakeing me up when someone was moving around, but that was a small thing.

It was a great stay with a very friendly personnel. Totally recommended for a short stay. The rooms are quite small. The shared shower and toilets were clean. I liked the breakfast, but it was quite crowded, so it felt a bit anxious. Great breakfast, but recommended to get early to it, towards the end there were not everything of the buffet. The place was from a walking distance from the Umeå centrum.

I did not like that the neighbouring guest was working from the room for hours with video calls. He was disturbing and very noisy. I was on the trip for work and could not concentrate nor rest during several hours so had to go exhausted to my work and meetings.

Very positive Experience for a 1st Time at such a hotel. This one was very well renovated, tidy and quiet. Good idea to preserve one of the cells as prison museum, Open for hotel guests. Also having free parking Space within prison walls is handy, as the 24/7 parking is not possible everywhere on the nearby streets.

The only thing that you need to adapt to and accept is the location of toilettes and showers which are not in rooms (cells).

Close to the city center. Very easy to get there from the train station. Close to some nice walks along the river. Very nice design! Nice atmosphere. It's great to have a big kitchen. Nice restaurant and breakfast. Very nice and helpful staff. Cosy little bedroom.

Toilet and shower floors should be cleaned every day. It was not the case. Maybe because I was there during low season.

Very interesting place to stay as it's a former prison. It was very clean, all the facilities as described on the website and it's not haunted 😅Also the atmosphere was cosy, maybe just not in the cells but that's how I expected it anyway. Interior design was up to standards, breakfast satisfying and I would 100% recommend the place. Really close to town centre too, on the same time- quiet on the nighttime.

Gamla Fängelse - old Prison - is one of the nicest hotels i ever stayed in. It is very special, stylish and nice, rooms are - of course, its an old prison cell - small and have common use bathrooms and showerd, which are good an absolutely clean. There is a large common room an the groundfloor and the kitchen on the 1st floor can be used by guests. A ggod Swedish breakfast is included. All staff are very courteous and friendly, The hotel is close to the riverfront and some 800m from the center of Umeå

Nothing to complain about at all..

Very friendly hotel staff. Very good location. The room is reather small as the the toilet and the showers were common (this was the option I selected and found it really perfect). The on-site parking was free of charge. There was also a good buffet breakfast. If in the future I will be around this town, I will return to this place (situated actually in the city centre).

Staff were friendly and the hotel was an interesting place to stay! I enjoyed the restored prison and museum about the history of the building. The layout was great and the location was close to central Umeå and the bus to the airport.

If you are tall be sure to bend over when entering your room! The door frame is a bit low.

Charming accomodation in an old renovated prison. We were a group of three in a room so we didn't get to sleep in a cell, but the room was really cozy. Never had to queue for the shared bathroom facilities. Everything worked smoothly, the breakfast was simple.but very good, staff was really helpful and friendly. Would definitely go again.
