There are lots of positive points to this hotel. It's clean, friendly, bustling and bang on the seafront. We only ate one evening meal in the hotel which was very nice, but the menu is just the usual pub grub so don't expect a varied choice. Also, be aware they stop serving roast at 7 (only available on Sundays). Breakfast was well cooked and the produce of a fair standard but the continental breakfast was sparse. Very little choice of pastries, no muffins as advertised and no cold meats or bread rolls so very disappointed. I asked for a disabled room. There are no rooms on the ground floor so be prepared to use the lift to the first floor. This wasn't a problem for me. I did get a room with a walk-in shower which was fine but I was unsteady. If only they would add a rail in the shower and by the toilet which was very low. So the disabled rooms could do with a little more attention. Overall it's a good hotel at a reasonable price and I'd happily stay there again.

Rails for disabled as stated More variety to menu (everything came with chips) Extra disabled bays. They have one!

I had a room with a sea view and it was lovely, the room was large as was the bathroom. The bed was really comfortable and I slept very well. I was unwell for my last day of my stay and the staff were excellent and provided me with breakfast in my room with plenty of tea. I couldn't have asked for more when feeling so unwell. Thank you

The WIFI was terrible in my room, unfortunately I missed a meeting due to it dropping out all the time. I was at the end of the hotel so not sure if this was the cause. It is an old building so the floor boards above are very noisy thankfully the guests above me were not late to bed or early risers. The walls could do with a repaint but it certainly did not spoilt the room which was just lovely :)

Had dinner in the bar which was easy to order and there was enough space. Food turned up swiftly. Nice selection of beers. The sea bass risotto was very good and I will order it again next time. I like the parking out the front of the hotel. The room (No 3) was clean and warm with good natural light. I've stayed before in room 2 which is less appealing.

A couple of fish bones in my sea bass risotto. Hardly a disaster though. Poor internet connection so I had to leave the hotel to watch the England match elsewhere. The extractor in my room didn't seem to work. The remote control for the TV is worn out.

I have stayed at The Ryde Castle on a number of occasions over the years. They very kindly always allow me Room 18 which faces south, so when there is sun it pours through all the windows. I don't need the sea view as I live overlooking Portsmouth Harbour.

On checking my statement I find there is a huge discrepancy between the cost on Sunday night and Saturday night. Supply and demand and most hotels charge thus. I got a price for 5 nights so didn't fully appreciate the discrepancy. It won't have cost the hotel any more. But I did object to there being no salmon for breakfast on Wednesday morning when there are I believe at least 3 items on the menu including salmon. "Very popular" I was told. So the kitchen should allow for that. It comes surely in a sealed pack, not fresh from the fish market!!! I think there is a legal expression: Buyer beware!

The location is handy for travel to the IW with the hovercraft & catamaran in walking distance. The room I stayed in was situated at the front of the hotel so had sea views. Great value stay at Christmas with the staff very welcoming & couldn't do enough to help. I didn't take up the Christmas package of Christmas lunch & buffet in the evening as I was visiting family but was available if I booked direct. Thank you to those at the hotel who worked Christmas & provided a welcoming stay.

Hotel a tad too warm for my liking but was able to open the windows slightly to let some air in.

Loved that our 2 rooms had connecting doors. Very happy with the thick curtains that kept out the light. Clean. Well stocked tea tray & great to have decent mirrors, chairs & table - things that just make a stay more pleasant. Also convenient for me to get to the walk the wight shuttle bus in the morning.

The double beds were small doubles & I'd booked for myself in 1 room & my son & his Dad in the other (& this was shown on my booking) but it wasn't comfortable for them sharing as they didn't have enough space.

Being allowed to check-in early on a horrible rainy day: very friendly and helpful reception staff. The room was warm and welcoming, and the shower and bath excellent. We asked for a room at the back on a high floor rather than overlooking the harbour, and this is exactly what they gave us. Really convenient for the hoverport.

We got a very good end-of-year deal offer so really can't complain apart from stating the obvious: the building has seen better days and the room needed some tlc...bathroom lights not all working, sink not draining adequately, windows poorly sealed.

Lovely hotel with clean rooms and a great bar and restaurant, it is in a great location on the sea front with just a short walk to the centre and a good size car park.

One of the members of staff was rude and refused to serve us in the restaurant he was very busy and stressed but no need for rudeness, we were quickly moved to the bar area by a lovely lady called Taz and we were then treated very well apart from that our stay was lovely and we would definitely come back 😊

The hotel is in a great location for accessing car ferry back to Portsmouth. Good parking facilities. Hotel lovely but a little tired. Staff really friendly and food in the restaurant in the evening and for breakfast was hot and service prompt. Wi-fi a little slow but free to access. We would stay here again when over on the Island for work purposes.

Overall, the hotel is a little tired and could do with a bit of a refurb in the bedrooms but this would not put us off staying here again.

Large bedroom and a great place to stay with lots of original features and old wooden panelling and staircase around the reception area. Breakfast was very good indeed with a very good selection of many options in sizes and types of breakfast, good sized breakfast. Decent normal sized bar with outdoor seating. Overall a very nice conversion of a castle, friendly staff on reception and at the bar.

From a business point of view - we had to go out of our way to pay for our v. good breakfasts before we left as this was not included in our booking. How many payments of breakfasts have been missed if there is no method for staff to check/charge for this if not included within the booking?
