Thunderbird Lodge

Very comfortable rooms. spacious and enjoyed the outside seating too. Breakfast was a good choice and interesting for a foreigner to try the blue corn pancakes and biscuits/white sauce for breakfast. Great location to head off for a canyon tour and a very quiet setting to stay. The canyon tour was very well done and led. Useful gift / card shop and seemed more reasonably priced than some. The guy on reception was very helpful when asked about local roads / routes.

The breakfast hot food server was the most miserable / unorganised server we encountered on our whole trip. None of the usual smile / welcome and trying to please. Did not seem to like their work.

The room and its surroundings were pleasant, spacious and relaxing with a table and chairs outside for instance. It was very close to the Canyon De Chelly National Monument. Fast service when hot water wasn't working: solved within 5 minutes.

They try to slap on a "environmental fee" which isn't mentioned anywhere beforehand. We didn't want to pay this and first they said its booking.com's fault, but it didn't say anything on their own website either with identical room rates. When confronted with this fact, they said they can't do anything about it because "computer says no". It didn't even mention this fee on the checking in papers you have to sign. So after alot of discussion they did refund this thought up fee a day later...

Rates are fairly reasonable for a location near a tourist attraction (Canyon de Chelly National Monument). Staff was nice as well as professional. Very nice gift shop.

Provisions for dining are not great. I tried to have dinner at about 7:30 and went to the only restaurant at the location. It's a stand-in-line buffet operation apparently. I say apparently as the line was so long I turned around and left, had some sandwich stuff I had in a cooler in my vehicle. The lodge is a mile or so from any other place to eat and I didn't feel like driving any more.

The location and view from the room was awesome. I also enjoyed the cafeteria selection items and price. I enjoyed walking through the store and viewing all the jewelry and native items for sale. Picked up a few gifts from the store.

The only issue I had with the room is that the shower head was lose and spraying water on the bathroom floor. I came in late but when I called the front desk they answered immediately and was going to send someone over. Before the person arrived we were able to tighten it and we were good to go.

This place was unexpectedly the best stay of our road trip! The location, in Canyon De Chelly, is beautiful. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Very calm and serene ambiance along the entire terrain. The shop is awesome and the best was the Thunderbird Restaurant. Very nice staff and simple, but good food. Thunderbird Lodge absolutely represents the hospitality of the Navajo people. We love the place.

We were happy that we decided to stay two nights instead of one. Even better if we were able to extend our stay!

The facility is not typical hotel, but more like a vacation resort, very relaxing and quite environment with birds chirping. Sitting in the front door chair, chatting with your neighbor customers can’t be easier. The mattress is supportive and comfortable. The weather is so cool we even don’t need to turn on the AC at night.

The cafeteria is next door but the food is not appearing. Wish they have a better restaurant attached to. The other few restaurants in town were so busy, we waited for about 45 minutes to get the dinner.

it’s close to the Canyon, nice grounds, friendly front desk staff, nice size room. great service: the night watchman was kindly notifying us that we had left the car lights on dinner was tasty the cafeteria cozy

in the room the floor in front of the sinks was sticky the pillows were too thick and hard the breakfast was a disaster, they forgot and confused things on the order, cold eggs the french toast dry, no syrup, no butter for the muffin, no milk for the tea

Chinle was a place between two of the excursions we wanted to do. We could have picked Best Western or Holiday Inn but I wanted a non-chain experience and I would come again. They have a Cafeteria where I enjoyed a Navajo taco.

The front office was not as warm and inviting as I had hoped. We had requested an additional roll of toilet paper and the front desk heard, “a rollaway bed.” The maintenance man injured his knee trying to get the rollaway bed to us when all we asked for was toilet paper.

Clean, reasonably priced basic lodge. Located in the National Monument, and tours leave right from the parking lot. Cafeteria style restaurant served large portions of decent food at reasonable prices.

The front desk won't let you check in until exactly 3 PM. We arrived at 2:30 because we had a 3 PM tour scheduled through the lodge, but the desk would not check us in until afterward. It wasn't a big deal, but for those thinking of coming early, don't unless you've arranged something with the lodge beforehand.

Could not be closer to Canyon de Chelly NP; excellent location! On-site cafeteria had generous portions for dinner. Room was extremely clean and comfortable with a small frig. Common green space just outside the room with birds singing!

It was fairly cool the night we stayed so we didn't have the A/C on. However, even though we were in an end room, the people in the rooms around us had their A/Cs on and it sounded like a constant motor running in our room.
