Superblue Miami: Everything You Need to Know Before You Visit

If you haven’t yet heard of Superblue, the outstanding 21st century immersive art museum in Miami, you aren’t alone. Even yours truly, who tries to keep up with all things travel had not heard of Superblue until recently. The experiential one-of-a-kind museum opened in May of 2021 after a two-year delay due to the Covid pandemic.

With more than 50,000 square feel of exhibit space, visitors become part of the digital art on display simply by stepping inside. Plans call for additional locations in the U.S. as well as overseas, but for now Miami is the one and only place to offer the Superblue experience.

The museum is centrally located in the Allapatta neighborhood of Miami east of the airport, north of downtown, and just west of I-95. The Rubell Museum which is known for contemporary art is directly across the street, and the colorful Wynwood Walls outdoor murals are nearby on the east side of the highway. It’s easy to plan a complete day of art experiences with numerous art galleries also in the neighborhood.

An Art Museum Like No Other

The world of art is so diverse that there is something for everyone. If Picasso, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder mobiles, Egyptian tombs, knights in shining armor, or dinosaur exhibits just aren’t your thing, no problem! Superblue’s immersive collection will appeal to youngsters, seniors, and everyone in between. And since the average visit lasts from 90 minutes to two hours, you won’t be dedicating an entire day to an unknown museum.

“Immersive” is truly what it’s all about at Superblue. Just imagine seeing your heartbeat when surrounded by 3,000 sparkling lights or walking through a simply unbelievable fully mirrored sculptured maze. These are just two examples of what 21st century art includes, and there is so much more.

Art created by the digital world that we now live in is nothing short of fascinating, and that is what a visit to Superblue is all about. The artists are leaders in their field, with the exhibits changing seasonally. Examples of recent works of art include:

  • “Awe-Inspiring Digital Worlds” by TeamLab
  • “Transcendent Light Experience” by renowned artist James Turrell. This is one of the largest displays that he has ever created.
  • “Monumental Photo Mural” by JR. A community mural with interesting stories about some of the people in the photo.
  • “Breathtaking Mirrored Labyrinth” by Es Deslin. Inspired by nature with an extensive scope which is surely understated.
  • “Interactive Biometric Artwork” by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. With 3,000 glowing lights, get yourself to Superblue while it is still on display. Amazing!
  • “Immersive Sound & Light Installation” by Studio Lemercier. Experience earth’s elements interacting like you have never imagined possible.

Additional Experiences To Make Your Visit Complete

In addition to the immersive artworks described above, Superblue offers some special experiences for an additional, but very reasonable cost. These should be purchased at the same time as your general museum admission ticket if at all possible, as they frequently sell out, especially on weekends and during peak winter travel season when Miami is often jam-packed.

  • “Massless Clouds” by TeamLab. Museum visitors become a part of the exhibition as they interact with clouds made of soap bubbles in a surreal world that draws guests in. Add $12 per person. With this optional add-on you will also receive free admission to the immersive light experience created by James Turrell.
  • “JR’s Printing Press” by none other than JR, is an immersive experience for one and all with a printing experience where each participant receives a unique print portrait at the conclusion. Add $20 per person. As with the Massless Clouds add-on above you will also receive free admission to the immersive light experience created by James Turrell.

What Do the Critics Say?

Arthur Lubow in the New York Times: “At Superblue, the barrier between the viewer and the artwork has evaporated, which is the long-stated mission of TeamLab. One way to regard the group’ showstopping displays in Miami is that they allow a visitor to pass through a computer screen, just as the characters in the film “Orphee” walk through mirrors. The venue is trippy, meditative, and gorgeous
”

Martin Vassolo for Axios Miami: “Superblue Miami immerses you in lights and bubbles. Normally, you’re not supposed to touch the artwork at a museum. But Superblue Miami isn’t a normal art museum. The Instagrammable art space immerses guests in light, color, and giant, fluffy bubbles. For $12 extra you can feel like you’re in a big foam party by entering the bubble world of ‘Massless Clouds between Sculpture and Life’. Covered head to toe in goggles, ponchos and shoe covers, we felt like we were in Stranger Things examining new bubble organisms. Unlike other museums where you can wander aimlessly for hours – like the neighboring Rubell Museum – the experience at Superblue lasted about an hour or so.”

And from some everyday people like you and me:

“Our family enjoyed this interactive art display. This was a perfect indoor activity on a warm summer day
. Easy to purchase tickets in advance
. We enjoyed the five display rooms and how easy it was to take your time through each
. You could touch the walls and watch the art change while enjoying music
. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I would highly recommend it for a two-hour visit.”

“I was thoroughly impressed by the incredible exhibition on display. The experience was nothing short of magical. The installations were breathtaking, showing a perfect blend of technology and artistry that captivated my sense from start to finish. The standout feature for me were the interactive elements which allowed visitors to engage with the art in unique and personal ways.”

As with any venue there are varying opinions, and Superblue is no exception. Some people loved it, and others not so much. With an overall 4-star rating from various websites, Superblue is worth consideration for a visit, especially if the weather turns overly warm or wet.

Plan Your Visit

Superblue’s physical address is 1101 NW 23 St. in Miami. Travel time and distance from the airport is 14 minutes/seven miles; from downtown Miami, plan on 14 minutes to travel the three miles, allowing for heavier traffic; and from Miami Beach, 24 minutes/nine miles.

The museum opens at 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and at 10 a.m. on Fridays and during the weekend. Closing times are Sunday – Thursday, 7:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Guests of all ages are welcome to visit.

Superblue offers both valet parking, and an adjacent pay lot for your convenience. Guests using Metrorail from downtown, Brickell, Coral Gables, etc. should exit at the Santa Clara Metrorail station, which will then require an estimated 12-15 walk to the museum. The short ride from the Civic Center station downtown to the Santa Clara station takes less than five minutes, and trains operate regularly seven days a week.

As of February 2025, Superblue ticket prices are as follows:

  • Adults – weekdays, $32; weekends, $39
  • Florida residents – weekdays, $29; weekends, $36
  • Students, adults 65+, military, frontline healthcare workers – weekdays, $29; weekends, $36
  • Kids ages 3 to 12 are $14 at all times, and youngsters under 3 are free of charge.

These prices are based on making your purchase in advance, online. This is a requirement of the venue, as admission tickets are not available at the museum.

Non-refundable, but changeable, tickets are based on a specific admission time and date, so buying in advance is required. Also be advised that tickets can sell out early, so we strongly recommend making your plan and reserving your tickets as early as possible.

What to See. What to Do.

Vacation time is precious and limited for most of us, so pre-planning is crucial. The difficulty in Miami is that there are too many options and never enough time to please everyone, unless you are traveling alone, of course.

When the decision has been made that Miami is your destination, lock in your travel dates, determine your mode of transportation to get here, and make your reservations as early as possible. You will usually find the best airfares a minimum of four to six months in advance of travel, but at least book far enough out to find a reasonable fare, or car rental price.

Once your travel dates have been determined, head over to the Travelated website where you will find scores of hotels throughout South Florida that fit your needs, and your budget. Beachfront or within walking distance of the beach, close to the airport, or in the heart of the city, we have it all. And our hotel rates are always competitive, whether you are seeking a budget property, a mid-priced first-class hotel, or something luxurious.

Happy vacation planning!
