Holiday Inn Express Athens - University Area, an IHG Hotel

Lobby, common areas, hallways, inside style of the hotel was very nice. A lot of parking available. I liked that it is so close to the UGA campus. Staff was very nice, friendly and helpful. The room was very nice and up to date in design, etc. I also liked the layout of the room. The breakfast was nice. I felt safe in the hotel.

The ladies room in the common area was not the cleanest. The floor was sticky and it was hot in there. I still felt comfortable using the facilities but it could have been shown more attention. The bathroom in the room was for the most part clean but the floors had not been cleaned. I could tell because there was hair. Everything else was up to standards though. Coffee could have been stronger that was in the common areas. I think the area surrounding the hotel is a little sketchy. I always parked in the front by the main entrance. The hotel is walking distance to the campus but because of the neighborhood, in between, I wouldn't feel safe walking there.

Loved the bed, AC, black out shade, breakfast, and all the soap, lotions, shampoo DOVE containers accessibility FRONT DESK CLERK was the best! Checking in was easy and they were very accommodating.

our Keurig coffee maker wouldn't stay closed to make coffee. I informed the cleaning lady when we were leaving. That is all. Everything else was great. Even when leaving today after checking out, the front desk staff was admirable. There was a vagrant wanting money and asking all the guests and I went in and explained that I felt uncomfortable and SHE, YES SHE HANDLED IT and got rid of him.

The room was clean. Beds were comfortable. The location wasn't bad, it was good. I drove every where. It wasn't in the middle of town but it was right beside it. To far for us to walk. Breakfast look like your basic. We didn't get to try it. We were rushed.

The parking lot was not good. I drive a suv and I found there were spots that was to narrow to drive through when cars were parked and backing out was a issue. The parking lot was very loud at night. Not fault of the hotel but cars running all night playing loud music and smoking which came into the room very bad. Both nights. Walls are very thin. When your nights are messed up it kinda messes up everything. I also didn't like the carpet in the room it felt dirty.

Parking - there was a $5 fee. This was not presented or explained. No one asked if I parked in the lot - it just showed up on my bill. I have no problem paying for a service....but there was no signage and no advance warning that parking was an extra fee. And, I still have no idea how they determined that I drove my car - I never gave a plate number at all. So, I find this intrusive and rude to add a charge with no warning. Seriously - its a minor $5 charge, but no one likes to be 'nickel and dimed'. Just be honest about your charges. And, for a measly $5, you managed to piss me off, and I probably won't return.

Friendly and helpful staff, great location convenient to UGA, very clean, well-appointed modern room, easy breakfast, powerful A/C kept high outdoor temps at bay!

Overpowering odor of bacon cooking that was so strong it woke us up every morning at 6am sharp and lasted for at least 30 minutes before dissipating. Also, A/C did not control humidity in our room, so towels wouldn’t dry and even clean clothes pulled from our luggage felt damp.

Easy check-in and check-out. The property is built on a hillside so the first floor is the basement and the lobby is on the second floor plus. You can take the elevator or walk the emergency stairs plus a half flight. It's very odd but it's OK.

They charge $5 for parking. Not a big deal but it's not listed in the property profile. The property is a rectangle, long and narrow. Access to the motel is downhill off a side street and you have to do a 180 turn and go uphill to register through the main front door. I asked the Front Desk Clerk for a local restaurant recommendation. Although she was enthusiastic about the restaurant, it was closed on Monday. She didn't consider that fact in making a suggestion.

We liked that the room was clean and comfortable for our one night stay. Everything in the room was in working condition and the beds were comfortable. The pillowcases even designated which pillows were soft and firm. The breakfast area was well stocked and the food was good.

Our only problem was that the hotel is located at the bottom of a hill and the restaurants were at the top. Athens has a lot of hills, so be prepared to drive or get a ride to eat at the nearby restaurants if you or someone in your party has mobility issues.

The hotel in neat and clean. The rooms are comfortable and reasonably well equipped. The staff at the reception are quite helpful. The housekeeping services are also good.

The buffet breakfast served everyday is almost the same. So it becomes extremely monotonous as we stayed for ten days. The menu should vary from day to day.

The breakfast was awesome with fresh cinnamon rolls, cheese omlets, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal with raisins, and muffins. The hotel was a block down from University of GA and all the attractions downtown. We stayed for dance competition and found it was less than five minutes from the Classic Center.

Our sink was stopped up and slowly drained and I don’t think they fixed it although it did drain better. The shower had black mold stains in one corner. Overall, the room was clean. I thought the room was small in comparison to other hotels I’ve stayed at. The chair at the desk when pulled out reaches the bed. The bathroom is extremely small as well.

The bed was very comfortable and the fridge was a good size. The room also had great storage for clothes, and luggage, along with ample plugs and usb ports.

The rooms are only serviced every 5 days or between each guest. We were there for three nights and had to request a trash bag for the trash in our room. The breakfast was not good at all, we tried it the first morning, and decided to go out the other mornings. The bathroom looked clean, but there was excessive hair on the floor and in the shower, I had to rinse and wipe it all down. Luckily I travel with Lysol wipes.
